I look down at my body to find that everything has shrunk to the size of a child's. I guess I missed this because I was too focused on uses my power. Oh, well...
Wait, shouldn't this be displayed in my status? Huh?!
Your Status:
Name: Dewa Emon
Age: 4
Level: 1
It didn't have my age displayed before, did it? I don't think so... At least that explains what my age is. Four, huh... That explains a lot. Like why the guards are so confused. Hmm... I'm going to need a backup story if I want to enter this city.
"Ah, forgive me, guards. My parents are not coming at this time. Unfortunately, they were killed as we were traveling. You see, we left our old city to find a new one. While we were traveling, a sudden group of monsters attacked us. I was the only one who survived the endeavor."
Now, let's hope they believe such a story...
"Ah! Such a sad story..."
"Please forgive my asking..."
Both of the guards, even the serious-looking one, have tears in their eyes. Great! Now I have a story that should work all the time if anyone else asks.
"Still, kid... We can not allow you to enter the city. Since this is the capital of the kingdom, we can only let in those with identification cards. Those without one must pay a large sum of money upfront, get their identification, and then return to show it to us. We then return your money."
"Kid... you don't look like you have an identification card, do you? It doesn't look like your carrying cash either..."
"Ah, you are right... I'm sorry about this. I'm guessing there is no other way?"
"Yes, we are sorry."
"Well, you can become a slave, but I don't suggest that unless you can do anything else."
"I see... Well, I'll find a way. Thank you both."
I bow to so my sincerity and then walk off. Well, I'm back to square one. I have nothing and can't get anything. I'm not even allowed to enter the city without money. What am I suppose to do now?
Well, if there is nothing I can do, then I'll continue experimenting with my power! I mean, maybe I can create something to help me... It also a good time waster.
I opened up the editor and created a new blank class. Okay, what shall I make now? Hmm... Ooh! How about I try to increase my senses are something. It might take some time, but it could be cool. I begin working...
...
Thirty minutes pass by as I experiment. All of that time allowed me to understand better my power and what I'm currently capable of.
Thankfully, I can increase my senses, but with my mana limit and current WP (world power), I cannot use it for long or have a large radius.
The program works by using a package/code: player.sense.(one of the 5 senses).(range or strength) += value;
It's effortless, almost too easy. I think that God made this power easy to use. Well, it helps me nevertheless, so I shouldn't care. I am a bit disappointed, though...
Anyway, by using +=, I can increase my base sense's value and increase it by a numerical value of my choice. There are two choices, range and strength. The range is the distance my senses can reach, while strength is the power behind it.
Through testing, increasing the strength of smell makes the stench of smells stronger or more potent. For instance, I could smell the nature around me even more with the increased smell. Increases the range allows me to smell objects at a farther range. It seems some senses use strength while others using the range.
All of the senses have some advance to increase their strength, while only the senses of sight and hearing need an increased range.
I found out that increasing the strength of one of my senses uses 1 MP per minute. Increasing it by two made the usage to 3 MP per minute. It seems that my WP has something to do with this. I learned from the tabs on the help page that with a WP of 2, most cost rates decrease so that it requires a certain amount of mana every 20 minutes. With a WP of 4, it changes to every hour. After that, If I manage to get a WP of 30, it should change every day.
Well, I have to level up if I want those benefits. Anyway, I currently have 34 mana, so I can only increase the strength or range parameter by 7 for a minute.
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
Speaking of which, every time I increase my range parameter, for sight at least, I can see another meter away than normal. This means I can see up to seven meters away, or in theory. I haven't tested this with an increase of 7, but it should just increase my sight's range by 7 meters through my testing.
Now, of course, I can't increase my sight range since it should be at the max, but by increasing the range, I can sense things beyond my sight, similar to clairvoyance. For instance, although I can't see past the trees in the forest, when I increase my sight by 1, I can sense things within the forest.
I have to combine strength with range to make it effective, though. Increasing my sight's strength allows me to be warier of my surroundings. The higher the strength, the higher I sense movements. With the increased ranges, I can better understand that which I can't physically see but can sense. I can't see what in the forest, but I can take a good guess based on its movements and size with strength.
Anyway, I'm curious if my theory is correct to increase my sight to 7.
...
"And done... Wow!"
After increasing my sight's range, I can sense lots of presences. It seems my calculations were correct. I can see an extra distance of 7 meters. Although that doesn't sound as far and cool, I can perceive a larger number of monsters around me. With this, I can't get surprised attack as easily as before...
I'm not at the edge of the forest, just in an open field. Therefore the effects of this program aren't much. If I move into the forest, I'll sense a larger amount of monsters or sources. Still, it doesn't help if I can't sense what type of monster they are. At least I'll know where they are...
I move closer to the forest, wanting to test out my program even more. I don't have much time left, so I have to hurry.
As I approach, I sense more and more monsters within the forest. Then, when I reached it, I sense multiple big presences around each other. Actually, it feels as if they are surrounding a group of smaller presences.
After analyzing the smaller presences for a bit, I realize that those presences are not monsters but humans. It seems like big monsters are attacking them. I wish I could help, but I don't think I would be able to defend them...
Then my program turned off. It seems like the limit of the program was reached. I could tell that they were far in the forest. Even if I wanted to help, I couldn't reach them in time...
"What to do..."
My mana is out of juice too. I can't do anything! All I can do is watch them die or know that they will be dead in a matter of minutes.
"No! I can't live knowing that. I might be powerless, but I'll try!"
I rush into the forest. I already know that there are many monsters inside, based on my previous program. I have to dodge them if I want to try and save them in time. Plus, if I encounter one, I've screwed anyway...
Luckily, I didn't run into any monsters and reached the people within five minutes. Sadly, it looks as if more than half of the group have been killed, with only one monster dead. My program didn't let me see what monster they were, but on closer inspection, it appears that they are the 3rd most used monster...
"Orcs, huh..."
Five enormous orcs have surrounded a cart. Outside of the cart has the remains of people who appeared to be the cart's escorts. They have iron armor, similar to the ones that the town's guard wore.
Out of the remaining humans, it seems only two remain. One is trying to protect the cart, attacking one of the orcs. It's a female wearing the same as the others who are on the ground. The other one appears to be in the cart. Since the door is open, I can see her. Again, she is a female; however, she's younger than her protector. Maybe close to my age in this world...
Well, I can't defeat the likes of these orcs, but I can be human bait!
I rush in, yelling at the top of my lungs.
"HEY, YOU STUPID ORCS! MIND PICKING ON SOMEONE THAT RIVALS YOUR SIZE!"
Yep, even though this makes no sense and is a death wish, I continue to shout and run towards the orcs. If they are distracted by killing me, the remaining people can leave. Sadly, It seems it distracted not only the orcs but the guard as well.
I pick up a rock and attempt to throw it at one of the orcs so that they would chase me. Well, it failed really hard. Instead of throwing the rock, it looked as if I tossed it instead. The orcs laughed or appeared to, and turn back to kill the guard.
Man, tough crowd...
The guard seems to forget about me as well, trying to protect herself and the girl in the cart. I use this to rush in and grab a sword that is lying on the ground. I try to pick it up but immediately drop it. It made a loud thud sound. Apparently not enjoying my clownish behavior, the guard yells in my direction.
"You, what in the world are you doing?! Why is a child here anyway! Leave, or you'll be killed with us. Go, make yourself useful, and get help! At least the future people who pass within this forest will be saved."
Ouch, that hurts kind of. It makes sense; who expects a four-year-old to come and save the day? Well... what can I do?
I ignore the guard's warning and try my best to lift the sword. Sadly, it made another thud sound as it fell onto the ground. Man, am I an idiot or what?
"I hope I recovered enough mana..."
I was empty a moment ago, but ten minutes has passed. I should have ten mana by now. I quickly open the editor and found that I do have ten mana. Good.. I hope this is enough...
Ten mana isn't that much, especially to save the day. But If I can create an attack program or something, I might be able to do something. No, I have another idea. The sword I have is heavy but is also worn down. If I have some more strength, I might be able to carry and swing it... Maybe I can stab it into one of them...
I won't have much time either, so it's all or nothing. I drag the sword toward one of the orcs. It hasn't notice or doesn't care. Once I was in position, I attempt to hold the sword. Once I have a somewhat good position, I increase my physical strength by four and stab the blade into the orc's chest. Thankfully the increased strength allowed me to wield the sword easier, but it was still too heavy for me to swing it or carry it for long.
I didn't know it till now, but the orc I stab was one that was already damaged. I mean, it had blood before I attacked it. With that, the orc falls without being able to attack back. I did it!
As I celebrate with joy, I realize that I was being stared at with evil intent. I slowly move my head to see that all the remaining orcs are staring at me, mad that I killed one of them. All but the one engage with the guard starts walking toward me.
Oops, I have done it now... Well, this was my plan from the beginning, but now what?!
