The Traveler

The Traveler

Yesterday, I died, I don't remember how I died, But I know that I died, because I remember the pain of dying.

I remember the pain of dying, and I remember my name, (         )...

Pieces of my memory, remain disconnected, but I have vague memories of what I assume to be a past life, or lives... Specific smells, certain views, special people... I have the memories, but now I can only recall them with awe, and a lingering sense of nostalgia, almost completely disassociated with what I can only assume was once mine.

"I can only imagine what kind of life I've lived before this."

A girl, sat alone, staring at the bright lantern lights that dotted the city, her eyes darting over the wandering guards, and city outbursts, her dark black hair waved in the wind glowing in the moonlight.

A light mist settled over the town as the pitter patter of droplets dampened the landscape, unfazed, or maybe unaware the girl simple sat and watched the townspeople go about their daily lives until the sun rose over the horizon, casting its light upon the kingdom, the mist dancing about with radiant colors.

The girl slowly fell asleep, sure to remember the radiant picture...

Thoughts raced through my head as a strange figure pressed their heel against my forehead, laughter echoed out from the shadows behind my oppressor. A kind of sinister laughter that only echos from those who enjoy watching the tormented.

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

"Malik," I called out to the shadows, and laughter erupted again from the dark space, and my heart felt heavy, crushed.

"Mal," the words couldn't escape my lips as I gasped for breath shaking in the cold. He couldn't've left me alone... here to die in the dark, I'd been betrayed before, but...

A figure walked out of the shadows and flicked a dim light floating above him just enough to brighten his features I recognized him almost immediately, even though I couldn't see his face, his figure was distinct... Malik

"I'm surprised," The familiar figure grabbed my chin, "Do you not feel pain?"

Confused I looked at my arms and legs through blurred vision.

My body was utterly mangled, the pain should've been beyond description, and yet I felt nothing. Almost as if it wasn't my body that'd been put through such pain, though, It didn't matter anymore anyway.

"You look like you're already dead..." He smiled as he stared deep into my eyes. "I don't think we'll have to worry about (       ) anymore, what do you think?" He looked around the room but received no words. As if that was enough, he got up and left the room the other's following close behind him.

A deep emptiness washed over me when the door closed, and darkness invaded the room. I fell endlessly through empty space, a sense of increasing unease overflowing inside me.

" I know what this is, I feel I should know what this is, but I... None of this happened to me.

"I never should've trusted them... I never should've trusted him! I'll get you Malik! My body burned, not with pain, but an uncontrollable rage!?"

thoughts and feelings invaded my mind leaving me in a stupor.

I can't do anything, trapped in this endless space, unable to move, unable to feel. Helplessness, this is true helplessness... unable to do anything else I drifted to sleep. I woke up surrounded by darkness, and again I cursed Malik. But as my eyes adjusted to my surroundings, I realized that I was looking at the stars from the top of a hill in an unfamiliar kingdom.
