chapter 1 - a hero's journey.

"it all starts here." Desmund muttered to himself as he hastened the strap of his string bag onto his shoulders. Tightening their grip on his shoulders as he proceeded to go through the massive gates, the place was bustling as a crowd filled with varying people talked to each other in pairs. He sighed, having someone to talk to helped in situations like these, they weren't going to a party, and he wasn't going to a concert, simply put, the place he would be staying would be a social jungle where having an acquaintance can be detrimental to his mental health, though he has hid himself up until now, staying alone for the better part of his school years, he plans on making friends this time around. He sighed once again, he has been looking forward to things, getting inside this school was no easy task, and given that it's one that lets its students become heroes whilst studying, it would be obvious that this trait was something that one needed to pass. So to say, the popularity of students within the social structure of this school wasn't based on their background, or even their looks, it would be based on-

"I've seen your work! Chelsea right?! I saw you turn those small saplings into gigantic trees the other day!" says one student to another, something that Desmund overheard.

"From one kinetic to another!" the person states as his eyes flared up with interest, looking at the two individuals talking to one another, perhaps even three, seeing that there was another person that didn't simply talk to the initiator of the conversation, he met that person's gaze, both of them being at a standstill as they walked along the cobbled path of the gate, he waved, Desmund gave one back "I've seen you." the person mouthed in silence, "a powerful telekinetic." he adds. To this, the teen nodded his head before looking forward and moving on with his life. Another one. he thought to himself.

Though, not that assessment based on one's ability was something unusual in this place, after all, they all kinda were small celebrities in their own right, and the reason for this small... fame, was something that would be considered the center of attention when it comes to conversations. It wasn't surprising that most if not all the people within this school see's each other as useful assets rather than emotional individuals.

Still, that doesn't change the fact that, theoretically, this school should be an elitist society.

And, perhaps it actually is.

A small food chain derived from a small area within a larger community, supporters that help individuals within this food chain, potentially rich and influential people even, come from the larger area, enabling the supposedly small grazers to become apexes just because they have the support of powerhouses.

Anyways, removing the whole law of the jungle shtick as a basis for the school's hierarchy, the place shouldn't be THAT bad, bar the whole 'I have influential parents and thus my actions were obviously staged' kids that entered this school, most of the over 4000 students within the campus should be considered as small heroes in their own right.

Though...

We would like to offer you a scholarship Mr. Steele, all on us, you don't have to keep good grades, all you have to do is attend the school. Do hero work under it's name, that's all we ask for.

He wouldn't really consider himself as an exception to that rule. Given that he was born with something others simply didn't possess, no matter how hard they worked.

"It's like being born rich, or even famous." He thought aloud. And, perhaps that was all their was to it, he was a powerful telekinetic capable of crushing trucks with just a thought, he has tried it, and, well, he has succeeded. An evaluation based off of that feat was one of the reasons why he was gladly accepted, and even offered a scholarship within this place.

Not that he didn't work hard for it, working out both his brain and body enabled him to accomplish that feat, stimulating his brain with his studies in order to improve his telekinetic abilities whilst improving his body with exercise in order to withstand the extreme backlash of the potent superhuman ability was something that he had to work hard for to achieve. And now, the fruits of his labor simply came to his doorstep, and that was it.

It wouldn't have come if I hadn't enrolled in this school in the first place.

So to say, everything that he currently owns? Yeah, that was his and his alone. He wasn't some snobby brat that pretty much rode off the wealth of his parents, nor was he some regally born individual that got everything he has due to his background, everything he has achieved up until now? Yeah, that was all his. And damn the ones who said otherwise.

Entering his classroom, the teen was able to see a few familiar faces, they did their own thing, from talking to their acquaintances to just flickering a ball of flame at the top of their palms, the small heroes of the city he was in, people whom he's worked with, looked satisfied with their current state, some were even excited. He was even somewhat taken aback as well, a small helper, going by the name Ellis looked to have been satisfied to be in this class, his massive frame simply staying put as he waited for the adviser to arrive.

"always thought he was always an over achiever." these words prompted someone to turn his way, a young girl going by the name of Madison looked at him.

"I've always thought of you as the same." the girl told him, "and seeing that you're here, I take that you didn't accept the scholarship offered to you?"

"you knew about that?" after he said that, Madison smiled at him and stayed silent.

Seeing that he won't get any answers anytime soon, Desmund left her alone and proceeded to find a seat, staying silent as the room's bustling activity came to a grinding halt, the adviser arrived and class started.

Well, calling it a class was quite the overstatement. The adviser simply told them the ins and outs of the academy, what they all should be expecting whilst staying here, the different classes as well as their schedules for the entire school year.

"So, you are all in the class scandium, following that would be Titanium, the classes below that don't really matter but take note that there is a reason why every single one of you are here." the teacher said with a scowl, "You all belong here, so act that way." and perhaps he was right, basing it off the reason as for why they passed, everyone in this classroom is either someone famous, influential, or powerful.

in front of all these promising people, his fame as a small helper didn't amount much.

"Though, I do plan on doing more than just that." the teen said with a smile as he finished his classroom introduction. It would another student's turn after his, and after all of them are done introducing themselves to the whole class, the whole thing would end right then and there, the adviser enabling them all to get accustomed to their new home.

They all finished and Desmund went to his dorms.
