Tenton watched as his friends attacked the oncoming hero. The wizard was yelling that this was a hero, but also they were clearly an enemy? Ah! One of “those” kinds of heroes. He had no weapon, and wore simple clothing, his only ornamentation being a necklace.
Tenton grinned, his body feeling strong. Wind swept his hair back, his cape ruffling in the breeze. He slowly brought his sword up to his side, the sunlight shining on it like a burning flame. No, it wasn’t just LIKE a burning flame, his sword was actually on fire. As it should be. His body tensed, and he darted forward, burning sword of light and darkness sweeping down to strike at the oncoming foe! The man with the pointy ears raised a hand, and Tenton’s sword collided with the Hero’s open palm. The man closed his hand, and the sword crumpled.
Wait. No, it was supposed to slice right through, or at least blast him backwards. Tenton frowned. The man’s hand was suddenly so huge, moving rapidly towards his face. It filled his whole vision. He was about to die. The fist was going to go through his face, his skull, and he would not survive. “N-NO!!” Tenton leapt to the side, a cracking sound filling his ears as the air broke next to him, the Hero’s hand sweeping around to catch at him.
A figure rocketed into the side of the Hero, the ground erupting around them as they both smashed into the rocky ground. Vess was punching down again and again into the Hero’s face and body, each hit sounding like a boulder cracking. But the man wasn’t bleeding. His hands swept up, clapping against the ears of Vess, a clap like thunder accompanying the movement. Blood burst out from Vess’s nose as he stumbled back, his eyes rolling back into his head.
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
And then The Hero was there, his own hands hammering down. But they too seemed devoid of strength, as if just before they hit they lost the immense crushing power they normally had. The man kicked out, and The Hero went flying backwards. This new foe was on his feet, everything he did was so fast, too fast. Tenton felt himself shaking all over. Felt how small he was. No, no! He had just begun his adventure!! What was happening?? The wizard looked like he was doing something with his hands, but the look on his face told Tenton that he would be no help here.
He had to get away. He wasn’t fast enough. He wasn’t strong enough. The man was racing forward, his hand raised, the cries of the seagulls overhead unbearably loud. They were unbothered by this. Because they were up so high. The man couldn’t hurt them. Flying. Of course, of course. OF COURSE.
Tenton leapt backwards as the hand reached out for him. The man frowned as he got smaller, and smaller. Tenton laughed. Of course! He could fly! He could always fly! His cape was not a cape, it was wings! They spread wide behind him, beating the air. The sun and wind caressed him, and he felt his strength surge. He soared up, glancing down as his enemy shrank beneath him. He would find a way to help his friends. The man was kneeling, in defeat. The man raised his hand again, like he was waving goodbye.
A crack of sound silenced the seagulls. A hot burning pain washed through him from his left wing. A rock. The man had thrown a rock. He looked over to see his wing ragged, torn and broken. He was falling. He could. He was! He!! The water and rocks far below him surged up, and he closed his eyes, covering his face.
Could he swim? Yes, right? Yes? He could
The water rose up and smashed him like the fist of a God.
Mud felt the boy hit the waves, and then sink beneath them. Not good enough. The others were broken behind him, likely not dead. Not his problem.
The ocean was a swirling mess of chaotic sound and movement. It defied his ability to feel anything, to sense anything. It did not matter, he would do what he must.
He leapt from the cliff, after his prey.
