She walked up to the doorway, and took a look inside. “How strange,” she thought. You see, unlike most doorways, even those without doors, this one didn’t seem to lead to another room, or even outside. Instead, it lead to a musky, damp tunnel. She saw a strange fog slowly drift out, dispersing into the bedroom air.
“How have I never noticed this before? Was it even ever here before?” she thought. As she stepped her paws onto the moist soil, crossing the threshold, she could see a faint light, far off in the distance in the dark. The tunnel was long, dark, and stretched on quite far, relative to her small size, but it was also straight enough to see a light pierce through the fog.
And so, being the adventurer this little kitten was, she walked in, and started to make her way through the tunnel. After walking for a only a few minutes, she noticed that the light she saw earlier was really a small hole in the ceiling of the tunnel, with natural light illuminating the darkness. And so, despite what her parents always told her (to never stick her head or limbs into strange holes) she did so anyways. She couldn’t help herself. She stuck her head through hole, and looked around. “Dear God,” she thought to herself. “I am outside!”
Nervous, and yet overwhelmed with joy, she carefully slid the rest of her body through the hole, which was just barely big enough to allow her to fit her slender cat body through, and so took the first step of her new journey. The world was bright and colorful compared to her home, and there were so many lovely smells she could smell. The grass, the leaves, the various flowers, the buzzing bugs all flying around; it was all so exciting to her little cat brain. After taking her first few steps, she stopped to assess if this was a good idea or not, and whether she should turn back.
“I’m not going to be gone too long,“ she thought to herself. “And I should be able to return just in time for dinner! Just a small walk to explore“
She walked around a little more, and saw a very nice patch of grass under a tall, beautiful oak tree. Grass was one of her favorite treats, and she didn’t often get much of it indoors unfortunately. So she walked up to it, and ate grass until her tummy felt full, and decided to continue onward. Although her family was living in a normal neighborhood, with a normal human home, and generally normal neighbors, the tunnel she walked through didn’t lead to her neighborhood. She was in some sort of forest, apparently far away from any civilization or the normal human world. She was in the wild.
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
She couldn’t see any paths or trails to walk on, but she didn’t care. She was a cat, and her paws were made for walking, and so that is exactly what she decided to do. She chose a direction, and started to walk, making note of the tree by where her strange hole was located. It was right by a birch tree, among many oaks, and she was sure she’d be able to find it again. “After all, how many holes could there possibly be,” she thought. And so she walked, and walked, and walked, seemingly for hours to her, sniffing around and exploring the wonderful natural world around her (although truth be told it was only about a half-hour).
She had wandered off quite a ways away from where she came, having found herself a most lovely spot to lounge around and nap at, right on a perfectly shaped branch of a tree. She climbed up the small height, and relaxed, taking in the natural beauty of the world, listening to all the nature around her, absorbing all the smells and humid moisture of the air while enjoying her cat-naps. She stayed there for many hours, coming down a couple times to stretch and such, but it was perfect. Although she loved exploring, she couldn’t deny herself the pleasures of naps and relaxation, especially in spots so lovely to her cat mind.
Eventually a time came, hours later, that the clouds in the sky had parted, and dusk was starting, that Poppy, looking at the sky, noticed that there was not one sun setting, but three setting suns, arranged in a triangular fashion, at least from her perspective. She knew that normally there was only one sun in the sky, and this confused her.
“How very interesting! I have never seen anything like that before!“ she thought to herself. Although she was finding herself fascinated by the fact a tunnel had brought her here from her bedroom, and that there were now three large suns in the sky, setting, making a most beautiful scene, she started to realize how long she had been away.
“My parents must be worried sick by now, and I am starting to get hungry,“ she thought.
She got down from her nice area of relaxation, and looked around. Every direction was looking similar to her, and she was having trouble remembering from where she came. “Did I come from over there?” she thought, looking past the tree she napped in. “Or from over there?“ she wondered, looking in the opposite direction. This was not good. She started to get nervous.
“Oh, no. I don’t even remember how far I walked to get here!“
She sniffed around, trying to see if she could smell her own scent and find the way back, but the most exotic natural plant and herbal fragrances of the world she was now in had quickly covered up and replaced any scent she may have left on her walk. She was lost, alone, confused, and needed to figure out how she would return.
