Just as life begins in darkness, so does it end in it.
I don’t remember much since I awoke, darkness surrounding me like a warm blanket. I can’t remember who I am, what name I have, what food I like….
But I do remember one thing…
I remembered how I died.
Well… Not all of it…
Just pieces..
Shards of memory floating bye on the currents of my conscience..
I was a man..
Young…
Some where in my twenty’s I think.
I also was loved. I can feel it even though I can’t remember there faces or names.
But thats about all the shards would show me. Believe me, I tried. The time spent in this endless nothing felt like an eternity of boredom.
But.. it seems that my stay here was coming to a end.
My senses came back slowly at first..
Touch was the first, I could feel some type of cloth surrounding me from all sides. Wrapped around tight and snug, it was comfortable but I was unable to move my arms or legs.
Then came my smell and taste. It was humid smelling, like wet dirt and moss. Witch was strange smell for someone to awaken to if my fragmented memory served me any use.
After that was my hearing. The sounds that flooded my surroundings were of dripping water and chirping insects.
It was almost calming, until a new sound interrupted the background noise.
Thump….
Thump…
The foot fall, or what I assume is foot fall, stomped closer and closer to my location. If that wasn’t something to be alarmed about, then the low rumbling of a growl would.
The last of my senses, sight, was the last to emerge. What I saw made me wish that I didnt..
Standing 20ish yards in front of me with a maw full of sharpened teeth and drool, was a monster of incredible size.
It had a shark like wide head with football looking protrusions bulging out the sides like jet wings. Standing on two powerful clawed legs that had spikes jutting out the tops of them. Its arms had fin like sickles growing out the side of them with one long clawed finger at the ends. The tail was as long and thick as an oak, with shark like flukes at its end. Dorsal fin on its back, longer than the ones on its other appendages, had a chunk taken from it. All was adorned in a dark navy scales with red and yellow patterns on its belly and head. But all descriptions before paled in comparison to its eyes. Golden burning orbs of hunger bore into my very soul.
It was hungry…
I am lunch.
But what struck me the most was not how scary or hungry the creature looked, but how familiar with its look I seem to feel. The fog of my memorys hiding how I knew this beast, but even without them I knew this creature was dangerous and I needed to move.
I need to move NOW!
I struggled against the once comfortable bindings finding that no matter how much I pushed or wiggled I was unable to break free from its death grip. Like a binding of a strait jacket, it held me in place.
Thump..
Thump..
The beast slowly stomped its way toward me, seeming to take all the time in the world to eat its restrained meal. The glow of its eyes never leaving me.
With little else left at my disposal, I started to shout for help. But what I thought would be words yelling for rescue came out as shrill incoherent screams of a infant.
“WAAHHahhauba!?”
What?
Is that me?..
Why do I sound like that?! The memorys I still posses say I was much older than the sound coming from my mouth!?
Then a memory slammed into me with a ferocity I found alarming..
Reincarnation.
Was I reborn? If so, were are my parents? Why am I in the middle of a forest with a giant monster bearing down on me?!
Said monster is almost upon me!
Then a whistle noise came from up high, above the canopy of the gigantic trees.
The Beast seemed to be to focused on me to realize the sound was getting closer..
Until it was to late.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
It happened in a blink of an eye.. One second the beast was rearing-up to gulp me in one chomp… And in the next..
A dragon descended!
BOOOM!!
A hulking giant shadow slammed through the tree canopy and crashes into the monster with such velocity that the very ground shakes and crackes like a earthquake.
What ever I was laying in rocked like a piece of driftwood in a hurricane.
My basket? I assume what I lay in is a basket since I seem to be a baby, rolled and tumbled over and over until I slammed into a tree laying sideways on the ground.
ROOOAAR!!!…
SLAM!!..
GRRROOW!!…
CRASH!!..
SLAM!!…
GRRRRAA!!
As I tumbled out of my cradle, I heard the two beast battle it out just outside my field of view.
SLAM!!
A tree smashed past me as it crashed into another, exploding at impact. Shards of the exploded fir shot out, one slicing into my tender flesh that was right above my right eye. The pain stung, but my adrenaline was pumping so much that I barely registered it until crimson blood dripped into my right eye.
I tried to free my hand once more to wipe away the offending liquid, to no avail.
But I still myself of my frantic struggle as I slowly start to realize something…
Its quiet…
To quiet!
I feel something gently poke the side of my cloth wrapping and slowly starts to turn me back..
HUFF..
Warm breath rolls past me before I fully turn to face either my savor or my new demise.
I would like to say the first thing I seen was the creature, but reality is rarely ever what you want.
Instead of the creatures face, I see a massive flat pink tongue that licks my whole body from my feet to my head. The slime of the beasts saliva smelled of morning breath and fish, which hopefully was a good sign it has already eaten today.
After the assault of the tongue was over, through the slime in my eyes, I could finally see what has saved me.
The dragon, which this could only be called such, could be described in one word…
COLOSSAL!
If the previous monster could be compared to a pickup truck in size, then this mammoth of a dragon would be a semi-truck!
Golden scales gleamed in the sunlight from the new hole in the canopy from its entrance. The Dragon stared down at me with eyes of deep azure glow. One horn adorned its forehead as to long feeler like whips framed the sides of the head. Its thick neck attaching its massive head to its gargantuan body leaned down towards me. Wings splayed out in there teal splendor where smaller than what you would think a animal its size should have. Tough plate like belly scales had scares and scrapes from the battle before, but some also seemed much older. Its muscle ladened forelimbs ended with a hand like paw that instead of fingers had long sharp claws.
“Draaag…” the beast cooed. Seeming to call out to me as its paws closed in towards me with surprising dexterity and gently picked me up.
As I was slowly lifted towards its face, something in the back of my mind kept scratching at a memory from my childhood. Something that took up all my time for a better part of 15 years, obsessing over it so much that I would even write comics about being in that fantastical world at the age of 6…
Pokémon!
But that can’t be possible…
Can it?!
The more I thought about this, the more I stared in wonder at what I slowly realized was one of if not my favorite Pokémon in this and my previous life!…
DRAGONITE!!
“nite?..”
The coo from my favorite Pokémon snapped me back to reality, realizing I must of been staring at it for to long, I tried to communicate with it.
“Aaahba da..” I started.
It stared at me with confusion as I mentally facepalmed. I am a baby, of course I can’t speak to it.
As I fell into self deprecating thoughts, the very large Dragonite started to cup me in its steely arms, a firm but gentle hug, as its golden teal wings began to beet in anticipation. The updraft from just the soft fluttering shook the surrounding trees with the majestic power they conjured. I stared in awe again at the shear power these smaller than they should be wings held. Before I could think of why they were even hammering..
BOOM!!
We shot into the air, faster than a human can blink, soaring into the clouds above. The speed at which we flew was so fast I could not hear sound. Everything was a white and blue blur.
After only a few seconds, the clouds parted as we finally came to an abrupt stop. The sound we left behind finally came booming back as the Dragon Pokemon let out a trill of happiness. I stared out over the arm that held me and saw a view that would etch its visage into my very heart till the day I pass on to the next life.
The veil of clouds parted and showed me a world of untouched splendor. Mountains doted the landscape as swaths of forest and plains spread out for as far as the eye can see. I could see snowy tundra and lakes as well as massive caverns entrances carved through some of the mountains. Valleys and marshlands cut off from massive canyons that were etched by massive unyielding rivers. All of this was beautiful, but all these wonders of nature paled in comparison to the one landmark that took center stage.
It would be insulting to call this monument just a mountain. Its peaks of white reach towards the heavens as a beggar would to god. Spires and ridge decorated the mountain in such a way it looked like a Titan carved them into being for some esoteric reason. All these road like carvings lead to the tallest peak, which if my eyes were not fooling me seemed to pierce even the thermosphere spearing all the way to space.
I knew from the moment I laid eyes upon this creation of nature that I knew where I was. There is only one place in all of Pokemon that has a mountain this important and magnificent as this. I had doubts that before this moment I was dreaming, but the cold on my skin and the soft but firm scales of Dragonite on my cheek, and this view means only one thing…
I was reborn into the Pokemon world…
In the Sinnoh Region.
Before I could soak in the majesty of the land more, my dragon savior blurred into speed. Dragonite blasted towards what I gleaned to see was a cliff face that ended at the ocean.
How could we be moving so fast and not feel the G-force that should be crushing me into Dragonites chest? Was this the infinite energy that Dragonite has the ability to control? If it is, would the lack of G-force be because of its Flying typing or because of its Dragon typing?
“Raaaaaaaaah!!”
A blur of purple and brown booms past Dragonite, sending us and the air into a turbulent hurricane.
To Dragonites credit, it barley even moved as the wind pressure flowed around it like a river around a mountain. But even though it barely moved, I could tell it was on high alert. A screech broke me from my musings as I tried to turn to see the perpetrator of the failed ramming.
My mouth fell open to the creature before me.
If Dragonite was a mountain, then this creature was a mountain range! Purplish wings spread out with rocky spires protruding from them. That was not the only place that had these spiky protrusions on it, some ran down its spine all the way to its diamond shaped tail spike. There were others that grew as razor sharp talons, chest plates, and its very own jagged horns!
But, the last place that they were growing from sealed the deal on who this Pokemon was. On its chin was a long and craggy rock beard that jogged my memory of this beast!
Mega Aerodactyl!!
The Pokemon pterosaur with its sharp blue eyes narrowed at us, then it let out a ear shattering screech that vibrated my bones as it blurred towards us once more, its mouth covered in frosty fangs!
Dragonite quickly dodged out of the way, more urgent then the last, before barrel rolling over the angered beast and throwing a fist covered in ice right at its exposed face!
What!
Did Dragonite just use Ice Punch!
But thats impossible?!…
It can’t learn that move?!..
Can it?
The fist contacted the face in a explosion of ice and force, sending the Aerodactyl reeling from the 4x effective damage. It plummeted at least a hundred feet before it spun on the spot and haunted its plummeting. It was breathing heavily and shivers ran up and down its body. It then glared up at us with hate as half its face was covered in ice. Dragonite looked down a the beast in contempt and just huffed it a haughty snort.
“Huff! Dragg. Nite, draag…..”
It almost sounded like a taunt.
Aerodactyl did not react to that taunt calmly, it went full on feral as it shot towards us in rage, faster than the last time, covering itself in motes of white infinite energy. But its size and damaged face slowed it down. Dragonite weaved around the lumbering Dinomon with a grace that did not correlate with its size, smashing another supper effective ice punch to its already damaged face. This time it seemed to finally be knocked out of the fight as I saw it careening down past the clouds. Its body smashing through, leaving the puffy cotton rippling away from the contact point. It reminded me of a pebble plonking into a glassy still lake.
The silence after the short spat was deafening. Dragonite, though, did not even stew on the epic fight for a second as it continued to fly, not looking any worse for wear. It sped away, aiming once more for the cliffs and sea.
As we flew, I thought of what I just witnessed. A Ice punching Dragonite battling a Mega Aerodactyl!..
A MOTHER FLIPPING MEGADACTYL!
But if that was a Mega Pokémon, then there must be a human with them? But the more I tried to remember if I saw a bracer or stone of some kind, the more I lost confidence in the idea of it being a Mega Aerodactyl.
I did not see anything that even closely resembled a mega stone or bracer. But it had to be Mega Evolution right? There was no other expla…
Then I remembered Mega Aerodactyls Ultra Sun and Moon Dex entry. That the Mega Evolution unlocked dormant genes and that its Mega form was what Aerodactyl possibly looked like back before its blood got trapped in amber for millions of years.
The untouched land, the form Aerodactyl took…
Am I millions of years in Pokémon’s past!!
As my mind was thinking up the scenario that I have found myself in, we finally approached our destination.
The reason I knew was because of the smell in the air. I could smell the salty ocean, but that wasn't the only sign of our arrival. I could hear the crashing of waves against the rocks, I could feel the water in the air condensing onto my skin as we neared the coast. Being a baby again really makes you sensitive to all the senses.
Dragonite slowed our dissent as it banked into a cavern that was 30ish feet above the ocean on the cliff face.
When we entered the cave, I noticed immediately that this was Dragonite’s home. The space was the size of a two bedroom house, with the flooring being soft hay and palm leaves littered everywhere as a few golden scales from past sheddings were scattered around the den. In the center of the nest was a pile of what looked liked fur and skins of some unknown animasl (or Pokemon?) strewn about into a bird nest shape.
Landing with a heavy thump, Dragonite let out a breath I did not know it (She?) was holding. She slumped down towards the furs bringing me closer to the bedding. The closer I got the more I could see something nestled within the fur. I finally saw what it was and it cemented the fact that this Dragon was a she.
There, covered in strange spiral blue and white patterns was an egg. The egg was the size of a giant ripe watermelon. It had bumpy pores over its surface that reminded me of a ostrich egg with a shine that made it look freshly waxed.
Dragonite placed me into the fur nest of dark orange and blacks right next to the egg. As I touched the egg, a warmth raced through me. It felt like a warm blanket wrapped around me as my body slumped toward the egg.
I could feel sleep consume me as I cuddled close to the egg. I could hear my dragon savior slowly lay around us, surrounding me and the egg in a protective shield of a mama dragon. As the last notes of my consciousness faded, all I could hear was the beating of a heat…
