“Jin, congratulations on winning the Hoenn League!”
A man approaches the boy who has just finished the award ceremony.
“Oh! Professor Birch, thank you!”
The man is Professor Birch, a Pokémon Professor. Jin received his partner Pokémon from Birch and has been supported by him throughout his journey.
“So, what’s next for you? Are you aiming to conquer the Champion League and challenge the Elite Four?”
“To be honest, I’m a bit unsure. Advancing to the Champion League is an option, but it might be fun to explore other regions or aim for the Masters Tournament.”
“Haha, I see you’re spoiled for choice. In that case, I have a place I’d like to recommend. Are you interested?”

Kanto Region
"Ah, that must be the place."
This is Route 22, located a short distance from Viridian City in the Kanto region. The bus heading to the academy Jin will be attending from today is expected to arrive here.

At the bus stop, three girls are already present. Two of them seem to be friends, chatting happily, while the other girl has her eyes closed, seemingly deep in thought.
(If I’m going to approach someone, I’ll choose the girl over there.)
The two friends are engaged in lively conversation, making it a bit difficult to approach them. Jin decides that the girl alone seems easier to talk to.
"Hello. Is it alright if I sit next to you?"
"Huh? Oh, yes. P-please, go ahead!"
The girl, startled by the sudden interaction, quickly moves her belongings to make space for Jin to sit. She appears to be a bit uncomfortable speaking with someone of the opposite sex.
"Nice to meet you. I’m Jin, a new student at Indigo Academy starting today. Nice to meet you."
"I-I’m Liko. I’m also a new student, so nice to meet you. Um… Jin-kun."
Her name is Liko. She has light blue eyes and semi-long black hair with a hairpin. Like Jin, she is a new student at Indigo Academy.
"You don’t need to add ‘-kun’. And no need for formal language. Just call me Jin. I’ll call you Liko in return."
"...O-okay. Got it."
(He’s quite forward. Maybe not the type I’m used to?)
Rattata
“Whoa!”
“Oops!”
Suddenly, a Rattata at her feet let out a cry, startling Liko. She reflexively recoiled in the opposite direction of the Rattata—towards Jin. Although taken aback, Jin caught her gently.
"Are you alright?"
"S-sorry. I was just surprised."
"It's okay. Don't worry about it."
Fortunately, neither of them was hurt, and there were no issues. However...
"Did you see that? She’s so bold!"
"To just cling to him out of nowhere~"
The problem was that this bus stop was full of students from the same academy, and those students included girls who were quite interested in romantic situations.
"Eek! S-sorry!"
"Oh..."
Realizing the girls' stares, Liko quickly pulled away from Jin. Jin, slightly disappointed, watched her as she moved.
(I-I hugged him! Ah, what am I doing with a boy I just met today?)
(...She smelled nice.)
This was their fateful encounter and the beginning of a long story that would continue between the two of them.
