Chapter 1: I choose you!

Pokémon Adventures: A Pokémon Master's trail

Volume 1, Chapter 1

"I choose you!"

Announcer: Yes, this battle in the Pokémon league finals is really kicking up steam!

The Announcer spoke with enthusiasm, as a large turtle shell went flying through the battle arena, trying to strike a crash landing on the shadow Pokémon that stood on the battlefield.

Announcer: Gengar dodges it!

As Gengar simply hoped to the side, avoiding the foe's attack, the shell spinning creature would spin around the field and in front of its trainer, revealing that this Pokémon was actually a Blastoise once it popped out of its shell. Once the Blastoise unleashes his canons and had full of intent to shoot high levels of water pillars towards the enemy Gengar, the Gengar leaped into the air, as its eyes were emitted into several large pink pairs that went gravitating towards Blastoise, encasing the Pokémon inside as Blastoise fell to its knees.

Announcer: Gengar used nightshade..

Blastoise would soon stand tall again, as it shot an ice cold beam out of its canon and aimed it straight towards the Gengar!

Announcer: Oh, but Blastoise withstands it! Wait...That's an Ice Beam!

The Ice beam landed a direct hit on the Gengar! As once Gengar landed, he took the hit and was encased in ice!

Announcer: Gengar is frozen! What will the trainer do know?

Blastoise roared with pride, as the enemy trainer pulled out a Pokéball and sent Gengar back inside of it, grabbing a different Pokéball as he tossed it onto the field as a Venasuar popped out!

Announcer: There goes the Pokéball. And the next Pokémon out is....Venasuar!

The Venasuar would send leaves flying towards the Blastoise, as once they made contact with the Pokémon it generated an explosion!

Announcer: That's a Razor leaf!

Once Blastoise took the Razor Leaf, it retaliated -- sending out two massive beams of water from its canons to strike revenge on the Venasuar, as its attack sent the beast backwards.

Announcer: Blastoise's Hydro Pump scores a direct hit!

Blastoise would then surround itself in a blue aura, flying towards the Blastoise and landing another solid hit, as dust filled the around upon their contact, and the Pokémon were sent back even closer to their trainers.

Announcer: Wow! Venasuar's Solar beam and Blastoise's Hydro Pump! What power!

The announcer shouted out as these two attacks collided, as a boy was watching all of this unfold on his TV Screen, balling his fist up as he cheered along with the match.

???: Man, oh wow!

This is Ash Ketchum from pallet town; Ash is almost ten years old. When youngsters with aspirations to become Pokémon trainers become ten, they get to receive their first Pokémon from Professor Oak. They choose between Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. Then, they can begin their exciting adventure as Pokémon trainers! The boy would roll around in bed, seemingly to excited to sit still -- even in his sleep, he would even grab a Pokéball and toss it, all in his sleep! Of course, there was no Pokémon inside, it was simply his clock alarm clock, his alarm clock that he seems to have broken.

Now starting in a new day, that would leave the child time to prepare, as his mother walked into his room, only to find him still laying in bed!

Ash's mother: Ash Ketchum, are you still asleep!? You'll be late getting to Professor Oak's lab!

Ash: Yeah right...Professor Oak's lab. . .

Then, it all sunk in -- as the boy jumped! Crawling down his stairs using only his hands as he fell to the ground, standing back up as he turned towards his mother -- ignoring his broken alarm clock.

Ash: Mom, why didn't you wake me up!?

Then, he would turn to his alarm clock in pieces -- as he couldn't even get a sentence out as he would make a runaway for the door, completely deaf to what his mother was saying.

Ash's mother: You said it yourself that once you turn ten you can wake up by yourself.

As he made his runaway, he tripped down the stairs, as it caused a loud ruckus, but he quickly got back up on his feet and out the door! Thankfully, it didn't take long for him to reach Oak's lab, as he found Oak watering some grass Pokémon, as he spoke quickly and out of breath

Ash: Professor Oak I made it I'm here!

Professor Oak: Oh, hello Ash.

Ash: So....Professor Oak.....where's my Pokémon?

Professor Oak: Hmmm? Ah! So you're the last of the four young ones starting their journey today.

The two would go inside his laboratory, a building in which was on top of a hill that took a stairway to get up to. Inside his lab, at least for the bottom floor, it was brown, and empty, as the two would walk up a long set of stairs, Oak keeping his pace nice and steady, while Ash hopped around all over the place, unable to contain his excitement.

Ash: I've thought about it a lot! And it took me a really long time! But now I've finally decided! I'm gonna choose Squirtle!

Professor Oak: I'm afraid Squirtle was already chosen by someone who wasn't late.

Ash: Aww....I've got no one to blame but myself. Okay, then I'll choose Bulbasaur!

Professor Oak: Bulbasaur went with a trainer who was also here on time.

Ash: Aww...alright, then I mean I really want Charmander!

Before Oak could respond to Ash, they had finally made it to the second floor the stairs lead to, smiling as he lightly shrugged his shoulders.

Professor Oak: Being a second late for a train or even a Pokémon can be life-changing.

Ash: Wh..aww....does this mean...I go on my journey without a Pokémon?

Professor Oak: Well...there is one more.

Ash: I'll take it!

Professor Oak: I should warn you that there is a problem with this last one.

Ash: So what! Since I was late, I have a problem with me too.

Professor Oak: Alright..

They would both look up at an elevated surface above them in the room, seeing a yellow bolt shaped tail wagging around, as a smile would spread across Ash's face as he ran towards it.

Ash: Is that it? Awesome...then it'll be my Pokémon!

As he ran towards it, the Pokémon ran away! He tried to grab it, but it would cross through his legs and cause him to stumble back down, as the Pokémon hid behind Professor Oak and giggled. The Pokémon was an electric rodent, a mouse-like creature with pointy black-tipped ears, red round cheeks, and a bolt spiky tail.

Professor Oak: This Pokémon is called Pikachu.

Ash: Aww, it's so cute! Looks like I got the best one!

Professor Oak: You'll see..

Ash: Oh yeah!

Ash would pick up the Pikachu, as it glared at him.

Ash: Hi there Pikachu, my name is Ash Ketchum. You and I are gonna be best friends!

Ash spun around, smiling as he looked at Pikachu, but his smile would quickly fade, as Pikachu's glare and sparks emitting from its cheeks made things take a dramatic turn.

Pikachu: Pika....

The Pikachu unleashed a wild thunderbolt onto Ash, as Ash was hit with this attack, Oak began to give more detail on the Pokémon.

Oak: Pikachu is the electric mouse Pokémon, Pikachu can be rather shy, but quite electrifying if touched by humans.

Pikachu would then slip out of Ash's hands, as Ash shook his head around to stay focused.

Ash:...Hey, I can take a little zap!

Oak: Alright then, if that's how you feel. Then this is its Pokéball.

Oak would hand Ash Pikachu's Pokéball -- a Pokéball with a small little thunderbolt on it.

Ash: Oh...thanks a lot professor!

Ash's mother: Ash....

Ash's mother would appear from out of the blue, holding a backpack of all of the boy's needs for his upcoming adventure.

Ash's mother: Remember, you were going to go on your journey after receiving your Pokémon. For goodness sake.

She said her last three words in a loving voice, with a light sight as he would grab his clothes, putting on his hat and putting on his actual clothes. As he would nod, and his mother would put his backpack on for him.

Ash's mother: Here...I packed your sneaker and jeans, nice clean shirts, and underwear, and your favorite snacks and some hot chocolate in case you want something hot but be careful not to burn yourself and a pair of rubber gloves to do your laundry and a new clothesline to hang it out to dry...

Ash: Aww, mom! You're embarrassing me...in front of professor oak...C'mon, let's go Pikachu!

The Pikachu would turn its head away from Ash, defying its trainer, as both Ash and his mother slightly gasped.

Ash's mother:...Don't Pokémon usually go in their Pokéballs?

Ash: A...haha, they sure do! C'mon Pikachu, get in!

The Pikachu would stare at the ball but turned away once more.

Pikachu: Pika.

Ash would become upset, sitting on knee and moving the Pokéball closer to Pikachu.

Ash: Get in your Pokéball!

The Pikachu would hop up and smacked its Pokéball into Ash's face, taking it off his face as a small pink circle was stained on Ash's face.

*Professor Oak: Oh right...This Pikachu hates getting into any sort of Pokéball.

Ash: Oh right...it does. Now...get in.

Ash tossed his Pokéball back to Pikachu, but the Pokémon was defiant; smacking it back to Ash each and every time, Ash'smother would giggle.

Ash's mother: Aww, you're playing catch! You must be good friends already!

Ash: Uh, yeah....yeah! We're best friends! Right, Pikachu?

Pikachu would glare at Ash, and Pikachu let out a fierce thunderbolt which would electrify both Ash and his mother, however, Oak was safe, and Ash's voice would shake when he spoke.

Professor Oak: Those rubber gloves your mom packed will come in handy!

Ash: Why??

Professor Oak:*Rubber conducts electricity!

*Ash:*Greeeeeaaaaaaaat!

*The lightning would subside, as Ash's mother would collapse.

Ash's mother: Don't forget to change your underwear....every single day....

Ash: Oh....kay....

Pikachu: Chu!

Ash would already have his rope wrapped around Pikachu's waist, dragging him up a hill as Pikachu wasn't too happy about it, trying its best to stop moving, but Ash would too strong and continued to drag Pikachu along with him -- but Ash would sigh in defeat, as he turned around to his small yellow companion.

Ash: Pikachu, are you gonna be like this? The whole way?

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

Pikachu turned its head away from Ash, refusing to make eye contact.

Ash: Is it because you don't like me?

The Pikachu would nod its head up and down

Pikachu: Pik!

Ash: Well, I like you a lot! And no matter what, I wanna be your friend...

Ash would untie the rope around Pikachu, as the Pikachu looked down to see that it was no longer confined by a rope.

Ash: So, we're all down with this. Alright, now don't you think you can just open your mouth and tell me what's wrong?

The Pikachu would open its mouth wide, not saying anything -- however.

Ash: Uh that's not exactly....what I meant.

Then, the two would hear the light stomping somewhere in the grass, as above the hedges Ash could see a small bird-like creature. *

*Ash: Hey, a Pidgey! That's awesome! Catching that Pidgey will be my first step to becoming a Pokémon master!

Ash would remove a small Pokéball from his waist, pressing the center button as the Pokéball grew in size, throwing it at the Pokémon -- the Pokémon was absorbed inside, as Ash would ball his hand into his fist -- mission complete!

Ash: Awesome, I caught it!

However Ash celebrated too soon, as the Pokéball began to slightly nudge to its left and right sides, and it would bounce back to Ash, as the Pidgey was set free, Ash's face was splattered with a sad expression.

Ash: Aww...I blew it.

The Pikachu would giggle, and Ash would slightly glare at it -- pointing at the Pidgey

Ash: The way to catch it is to have a battle, go -- Pikachu!

Pikachu: Pik.

The Pikachu would look away, as Ash frowned

Ash: Aww come on, aren't you gonna help me out?

Pikachu: Pik.

Ash: Fine. . .I'll just do it myself!

Ash would scan around the nearby area, as he would find a rock -- he would place the rock inside of his pocket, and he would go in his bag to grab his pajama shirt -- he was now ready. He would slowly sneak up on the Pidgey, with his shirt over his mouth and lower body, as the Pidgey would turn to Ash, and Ash would become as still as a statue.

Ash: . . .

Pidgey: . . .

Ash: . . .

Pidgey: . . .

Ash: Hey there. . .little guy. . .Enjoy your last moments of freedom, Pidgey! Because you're mine!

Ash would attempt to catch the Pidgey under his pajama shirt, but the Pidgey flew away, leaving Ash to fall down. He would soon stand back up as he tossed the rock in his pocket at the Pidgey, completely missing the target, but hitting a new target instead. This angrier looking bird would narrow its eyes down, scouting the area for what it was that had hit it.

Spearow: Spearow... .

Ash would sit up, as he would look at the Pokémon he had hit by mistake, as Pikachu was laughing at him.

Ash: A. . .Spearow?

The Spearow would hear the Pikachu's giggles, as its inhuman vision allowed it to locks its sights onto the Pokémon and Spearow would go flying towards the Pikachu, diving down to try and peck it but the Pikachu jumped away, releasing two fierce bolts of lightning from its cheeks that went straight towards Spearow -- the Spearow would fly away, avoiding one hit, but taking the other, Ash would stand back up, and Pikachu would let out a warning.

Pikachu: Piika!

The Spearow would fly into a tree. And then out of the tree, a horde of Spearow would fly out of it -- and Pikachu and Ash would begin to make their runaway -- but they couldn't keep up their lead, as the Spearow were only getting closer and closer, as they all swayed and moved in sync. However, they all ignored Ash, and began to violently peck at the Pikachu, Ash would lightly push the Spearows standing in his way, all in attempts to rescue his Pikachu.

Ash: Hey, leave Pikachu alone! I'm the one who threw the rock!

Once Ash picked up his Pikachu, the Spearow began pecking away at him, and Ash would begin to run off once again, as all the Spearow followed, Ash would find himself near the edge of a trek of land, as what awaited him below was a stream of water, being poured by a waterfall, he looked behind him to see the Spearows still on his tail, as Ash would leap into the water; being carried by the stream. He held Pikachu in his arms, as he would gasp at the sight of a large Gyarados swimming about, Ash would quickly swim to get out of the Pokémon's way.

_Above Water

A young girl would sit on a rock above ground, fishing. This girl has short, orange hair tied into a side ponytail. She has green eyes and fair skin. She wears red suspenders, a yellow sleeveless tank top that shows her midriff, blue denim shorts that stop at her thighs, and red sneakers with yellow lining and white laces. Her whole midriff is showing, and she would see bubbles forming on the surface of the water, as she tried to use her fishing rod to reel it in, she was in for a rough time.

???: Oh hey I got a bite, oh wow I really think this could be a big one!

She tugged back, as what she was able to catch wasn't a Pokémon, but it was Ash! Ash was swung onto the land, still holding his Pikachu within his arms.

???: Nah it's just a kid. Oh! And a Pokémon! Aww, are you okay?

She would toss her fishing rod to the side, as Ash coughed. The girl jumped off of her rock and next to Ash, slightly bending her knees, Ash would look over towards her, smiling a little

Ash: Yeah. . .I'm okay.

???: Not you! Look at what you've done to that poor little thing, is it breathing?

Ash: I...I....I think so.

???: Well just don't sit there! It needs to get to a doctor right away! There's a medical center not too far away from here.

Ash: You mean a hospital?

???: For Pokémon, yes.

Ash: Um...can you tell me? Which way do I go?!

???: That way.

The girl would point at the direction Ash's back was facing, as the two of them heard the sound of angry Spearow's and Ash started to panic.

Ash: Oh no, they followed my scent!

Ash would see the girl's bike, putting his Pikachu inside of the basket the bike had on the front as he hopped on.

???: Wh...Hey, what are you doing?!

Ash: I'm borrowing this.

Ash would begin to drive off, as he would look back towards the girl

???: Hey, that's my bike!

Ash: I'll give it back someday!

???: Oh. . . .You!!

Left pedal spin, right pedal spin, left pedal spin, right pedal spin. This was the only action he had to put into the motion This was all he could do if he wanted to preserve the life of his precious companion, the life of his companion that is which dangling around, just waiting to snap and fade away into a deep dark abyss. The sky had begun to cry, the gray clouds over Ash's head only representing despair, and the fierce bolts that struck down are only a result of anger, but the Spearow were ruthless, in fact, they were almost apathetic; violently pecking the wheels of the bike and the Pokémon who could no longer defend itself. The boy, who had no trait of thought travel through his mind, quickly released his grip on the bike, using his body as a shield for his Pokémon, but the bike would hit a rock, and Ash and his Pikachu were sent hurdling off of the bike, and onto the hard, cold ground they laid on. Bruised, battered, tired, how much longer can they keep this fight going? Ash would turn his crawl into a run, as he stopped at the sight of his Pokémon laying on the ground unable to wheeze out a word, the Pokémon was completely out of breath.

Ash: Pikachu! This can't be happening. . .right?

The struggled movements of his Pikachu, and the angry squawking of the Spearow that flew above them reminded Ash that all of his IS actually happening. With only taking a second to think, Ash grabbed the Pokéball with a small lightning bolt on it from his waist, setting it down right in front of the Pikachu.

Ash: Pikachu. . .you've gotta go inside.

Pikachu: Pika. . .

Ash: I know you can't stand going inside your Pokéball, but still. . .inside. . .you'll be protected! So come on. . .get inside, please. . .and leave the rest to me. I'll take care of this.

The boy would glare at the Spearow's from above, turning to face them as he turned his hat backwards, and held his arms out.

Ash: Alright. . .I don't think you know who you're messing with, but I'm Ash Ketchum from Pallet town, and I'm going to be the World's Greatest Pokémon Master! Mess with me and you're gonna lose!

The Spearow would all fly to create an irregular shape, flying up in the sky before diving down so they can deliver their finishing blow.]

Ash: Pikachu, hurry! Get inside. Alright you, hit me with your best shot!

And at the moment, it felt as if time had slowed down. A fierce lightning bolt striking down as soon as the Spearow begin to dive down and finish Ash off -- as the Pikachu hopped on Ash's shoulder, springing into the air as it let out a devastating thunderbolt, one last time. This bolt of lightning sent on the Spearow back, and Ash and Pikachu both collapsed. Ash would reawaken to his Pikachu laying next to him, smiling as its ears slightly twitched.

Ash: Pikachu. . .

Pikachu: Chu!

Ash would reach out to the Pokémon, hugging it close to him as his Pikachu licked his cheek, as Ash flinched in shock.

Ash: You'll stay. . .? Mean it?

Pikachu: Piiika.

The Pikachu would nod, as their foreheads touched, and they both laughed a little, nuzzling each other as the rain would fade, the clouds would vanish, and the sun would shine once more -- a large rainbow-colored Pokémon flew over their heads, letting out a majestic cry. Ash stood up holding Pikachu in his hand, as they both would watch that Pokémon fly away, as it flew away -- the Pokémon would have one of its feathers fall off, as a rainbow-colored feather would flutter down, falling into Ash's open hand. He looks up once again at this Pokémon, the Pokémon who was flying towards the rainbow.

Ash: Pikachu. . .someday we'll both me that Pokémon

And now their adventure, truly begins.
