Chapter 8: Miracle

Chapter 8: Miracle

"Definitely from the way you describe it it's a Hypno" I said out loud which surprised Charlotte a bit who didn't seem to know much about the Pokemon of Kanto, Nurse Joy nodded slightly and said: "Yes, it's not the first person to report a Hypno in Viridian Forest, I think we'll have to raise an arrest warrant for him to stop hurting people who pass by" while the Nurse As Joy finished the sentence, I felt a warmth emanate from my arms, and then I felt the egg begin to vibrate greatly.

Seeing my astonished expression, the nurse and patient turned to me and asked me what was going on before the egg in my arms out of nowhere began to glow and there was a cracking sound like something breaking.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's an incredible feeling, one moment you're hugging a giant egg and the next it's lit up like a supercharged light bulb that forces everyone in the room to look away, I could only feel how the shell evaporated and when it finally stopped shining everyone turned to see the little creature I had in my arms.

Jumping back and forth as if I couldn't contain his energy, we could see a small red spot wandering from between my arms to the nurse's and then jumping on the table and deciding that the best place was above my head.

The small spot was about 15 cm in size, it was red with a gray breast and a small black tail-shaped feather, you didn't have to be a Pokemon expert to know the favorite regional bird of many, that little one was a Fletchling, a very lively one with excess energy to come from an egg that was at risk of breaking.

The little Fletchling who snuggled in my head could see everyone's gaze and as if he wanted to give us a little show, he jumped into my palm and raised his wing as a greeting while shouting: "Fich!" which touched everyone present, I in particular had mixed feelings, that small gesture reminded me a lot of Pidgey, I think it will be difficult for me to be able to live with the bird type Pokemon but I feel very happy to be able to witness and have helped in the birth of one, it does not compensate for the fact that it has died because of me but I think it is a good step to start overcoming it.

Nurse Joy looked at me and said with a small smile: "I see you understand Max, the miracle of life is beautiful, I respect you more now seeing that you don't suppress your feelings, not all male Trainers allow themselves to cry in these situations" surprised by Nurse Joy's words I raised my unoccupied hand and touched my cheeks only to feel the small tears running down them, Fletchling noticed that and worriedly jumped up to my shoulder and gave me friendly pecks on my cheek.

I must admit that that encouraged me a lot, I raised my arm and my finger as a hanger so that Fletchling jumped towards her which the Pokemon Baby understood and obeyed immediately, already standing on my finger I lightly caressed his head and felt how he warmed slightly from the excitement of that he paid attention to him.

That little warmth made me a little uneasy, as far as I understood Fletchling did not acquire the fire type until his evolution, but I calmed down when I reasoned that if he can learn Ember he must have a predisposition or a small potential with the fire type even if he is not yet, I just hope that manifesting those abilities minutes after birth does not affect him at all in the long term, Baby Pokemon need a few weeks to reach the size of their species and be able to fight without repercussions.

Observing the interaction between Fletchling and me, the restless Charlotte could only bite her lip before she suddenly got up and wanted to grab Fletchling, what she didn't count on is that the little bird reacted very quickly and jumped towards my head completely dodging her Trainer who was now slammed face first against the floor.

As if it were a comedy number, Charlotte stood up teary-eyed and pointed an aggressive gim at me before yelling, "Leave my Fletchling alone! I don't know what you're doing to make it stick to you so much but don't forget it's mine!, my father pushed that egg away especially for me because he wanted me to follow in his footsteps!" I could only raise my hands in surrender and tell her in a calm tone: "I'm not doing anything, it's normal for Pokemon to get attached to the first person they see at birth, but you have nothing to worry about, I still don't have my Trainer license, so even if I wanted to take it away from you technically I don't have permission to have it" I said omitting the detail that in less than a week I will be able to have my Trainer License.

Charlotte seemed calmer after hearing that but I decided to completely calm her concerns and comment in a slightly heavy tone: "If possible it would be best if you capture it in a Pokeball as soon as possible, I can tell you with experience that it is not very smart to have a baby Pokemon out of a Pokeball for a long time" I said trying to sound as serious as possible " Besides, it needs to be inside its Pokeball for the machine to examine it, after all it comes from an egg that was at risk so you better take a look at it as soon as possible," Nurse Joy added as she held up a finger.

Charlotte nodded and standing up as she approached her backpack she reached in to rummage inside it and with a smile pulled out an Ultra Ball that in my opinion she had reserved for this moment.

"Wow, are you really going to spend an Ultra Ball on a baby Pokemon? If you know that with his level, even a normal Pokeball would be enough and he wouldn't have much chance of escaping, right?" I said, trying to dissuade her from spending an expensive item on a Pokemon that would be practically unable to put up any resistance.

In response, Charlotte just shook her head and then theatrically raised her finger and started moving it from left to right in front of my face: "There are more important things than money Maxwell, it's fate that wants this Pokémon to be my strongest Pokémon, just like Talonflame was to my father back in the day, it would be a shame if I was in a regular Pokeball, but I understand that a little kid like you can't understand it," she said in a condescending tone as she slowly approached Fletchling with the Ultra Ball held high.

I must admit that I was a little annoyed by his words, but I think deep down she tried to make me less here so that Fletchling would think better of her or maybe she was jealous that her future Pokemon Ace would rather be in my head than even get close to her, whatever the reason was I found childish and irritating, but that annoyance didn't last a minute when Fletchling, seeing the Ultra Ball approaching, raised his wing and slapped it far away, only to then turn his beak in disgust.

The now depressed Charlotte looked like she wanted to cry when she saw that and then turned to look at me as if I had been the one who hit the Ultra Ball: "This is all your fault! You've got to do something, I won't leave without Fletchling! It's his destiny to win the Indigo Plateu with me!" she said as if it was my decision to make the Pokemon want to go with her.

"Fate is not always as one thinks" I said in a heavy voice while remembering what I thought would be my first Pokémon, "but I'll see what I can do to help you, it would be a shame if you don't have Fletchling after everything you suffered to take care of his Egg"

The Young Trainer just nodded in desperation and watched me impatiently waiting for me to make some move, I sighed and very carefully took the Pokemon perched on my head and then put it in my right hand, caress it a little with my left hand and say in a calm tone "Hello little one, I know maybe Charlotte is not the person you want to travel with, but she will take great care of you and keep you safe," I said as the Fletchling glanced sideways at Charlotte and turned his head again in disgust and then jumped to my shoulder and joined my cheek as a caress.

"Listen, unfortunately even if I wanted to take you with me I can't, I'm not really a trainer yet so I can't have a Pokemon with me," I said trying to sound as convincing as possible when inside I felt hypocritical since I wouldn't have hesitated for a second to hide Pidgey until the week was over and I could get the license.

Fletchling lowered his beak very discouraged and made a face as if he wanted to cry so taking pity on him I told him "let's make a small deal, go to Charlotte, spend some time with her, judge her as a Trainer, if in the end you feel that I am a better option I will allow you to come with me, what do you say? "Fletchling, hearing that, seemed to cheer up a lot, but out of the corner of my eye I could see how Charlotte made a worried face, so I turned to look at her and said, "Does that sound the same good for you, Charlotte?" she turned to look at Fletchling and then at me to bite her lip a little and finally nod determinedly, "It's a deal," she said as she brought the Ultra Ball closer once more to Fletchling.

The Pokemon seemed to hesitate a bit before turning to look at me and smiling with its beak as if trying to make me recognize the deal, then tapping its head lightly on the Ultra Ball and being sucked into a white light in a few moments.

The Ultra Ball only shook twice before a -Ping- sounded, signaling that the catch was successful, Charlotte was overjoyed and even with her bruised state she picked up the Ultra Ball and jumped up and down in happiness.

Nurse Joy, seeing this, gave a loud applause to catch the attention of those present and asked Charlotte to return to the table so that her Pokemon could continue with the Heal Pulse and she could examine the newly captured Fletchling.

With a lot of professionalism he took the Ultra Ball and put it in the same machine where Fennekin's Pokeball was, typed a few pieces of information on the keyboard and said out loud: "Fletchling, Normal/Flying Pokémon, Level 1, Male, apart from being a little smaller than average seems to be in excellent condition, my recommendation would be to give him a diet of porridge based on Oran Berrys to ensure his growth and some Moomoo Milk so that it has the necessary nutrients" she said with a smile to the now lying Charlotte and then looked at me and said "It seems that your first job was a success Max, I congratulate you, as you can imagine it is not every day that people come to faint at the door" she said the last to Charlotte's embarrassment "but sometimes things can be a little difficult around here, I think for the moment it will be better for you to go home to rest and tomorrow we will continue with what I will teach you, it was already a lot of emotions for a day and I still have to attend to Charlotte and lift the catching warrant for that Hypno" she said giving me a light pat on the back as a sign for me to leave.

I laughed a little and said, "Oh come on! Nothing can be worse than having to listen to a little girl from Kalos who only knows how to cry because her Pokémon doesn't want her," I said as I dodged the blow that Charlotte tried to give me before Nurse Joy put her back on the table, "and after all it can't be so bad if I'm going to learn from you Nurse Joy," I said the last trying to sound as gallant as possible to Nurse Joy just laughed and said "yes, yes, whatever you say Max, I just hope you keep that energy when you're working" she said with a smile before pulling me out of the back of the Pokemon center and closing the door.

With a renewed attitude after seeing Fletchindler's birth, I walked back to the orphanage, where all the energy was drained after listening to Mother Clarisse's sermon on respect for elders after I told her everything that happened and my poor attempt to flirt with the Nurse Joy.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And so I went every morning early to the Pokemon Center where the Nurse Joy was waiting for me, I learned many things from her, she taught me about the basic care of Pokemons, how to make small emergency bandages, how to use healing items correctly and many more things.

Unfortunately for me, she didn't seem to have a particular interest in me, but I think we managed to become friends, so I really enjoyed the time I was learning from her, and I even got to talk to some Trainers who visited the Pokemon Center, who very kindly explained to me what Pokemons were in the area and which parts were considered dangerous.

Occasionally I also thought I saw a brown-haired, slanted-eyed Young Man wandering around near the entrance of the Pokemon Center without daring to enter, but I didn't think much of it and dismissed it as irrelevant.

Regarding Charlotte, as if on purpose, I couldn't see her again at the Pokemon Center, I think she was kind of sorry for me because of the whole situation with Fletchinder, but from what the Nurse Joy told me, after she recovered, she said something about continuing to train before trying to challenge Brock, so I think sooner or later I'll see her again.

With all those experiences and knowledge acquired, I could hardly realize that the days passed and finally my birthday arrived, along with the possibility of getting my Trainer license and finally starting my Pokémon journey.
