Did you know?

Worldwalker Online has 8 stats for players to work with, split into two groups of Physical stats (Strength, Agility, Dexterity, Vitality) and Mind stats (Intelligence, Spirit, Perception, Will). This can be a lot to deal with for some people, so if you find the stat system too complicated feel free to just use the recommended stat allocations-the game is set up to give you a useful stat spread even with unusual class combinations!

Thank you for your patience!

Scarlet stepped out onto clean white marble. A wispy crackling sound faded behind her, and she turned just in time to see a flickering white portal finish closing.

Once again she closed her eyes and felt sensations wash over her. The stone beneath her boots and warm sunshine on her face, the smell of woodsmoke and baking bread, the sounds of carts and people talking and the distant rhythmic clang of a blacksmith's hammer on steel.

She opened her eyes back up and pivoted on her heels in a small twirl. The marble platform she stood on took up the entire space she would expect of a town square, and in every direction except one there was only a few rows of quaint medievalish buildings before the village gave way to fields and empty roads.

The marble platform itself was odd, perfectly flat except for a dry fountain of some kind at the center and large columns of darker grey stone arrayed around the outer edge right before the stairs down to the street around it. There were a few other players scattered around it, chatting with others or seemingly just relaxing. A few of them waved to her before turning back to their own business.

To the North though, the buildings got a bit denser. Shops and houses lined the streets, clustering around a huge cathedral made of more white marble mixed with sleek black granite. The cathedral was huge, and frankly seemed very out of place in a village this small. All the other buildings were two stories tall at most, and the ones that weren't wood and thatch were made of simple cut stone and tiles. The cathedral though was a towering wall of pointed arches and tall spires rendered in sparkling white and black that reached over a hundred feet into the air.

"'Hey there Miss. Looks pretty nice yeah?" Scar looked over and down to the player who had walked up next to her, a short mess of brown hair that didn't quite come up to her shoulder over a round dark-tanned face. A scuffed up dark brown cloak wrapped around his body gave him a rogueish appearance, though when he noticed her examination he looked up and flashed her a friendly smile. "Wondering what it looks like from the top?"

Scarlet blinked, and shook her head. "I was more thinking about how out of place it seems in this village. Though, I suppose the view would be quite good from up there, if there is a way up at least." She glanced upwards at his nametag, Jack'o Knives.

He stretched out a hand for a handshake, which she accepted after a brief pause. He shook enthusiastically and grinned again. "Call me Jacko, Miss. And nobody's found a way inside just yet, but if you'd be willing to hear out a proposition I can help you up to the top anyways."

Scar raised an eyebrow. "A proposition? Isn't it a little fast to be asking a woman something like that?"

Jacko's eyes widened and a tinge of red flushed his cheeks. He stepped back, waving his hand and chuckling nervously. "Oh no, no sorry Miss I didn't mean anything like that."

Scarlet giggled and waved her hand, "Ah, sorry that was a little mean of me. I just couldn't resist after your poor choice of words. I assume you're recruiting for a guild?"

Jacko chuckled again and rubbed the back of his head. "Ah ya got me there Miss." Scarlet saw a flash of armor under the roughed up cloak. Despite Jacko's scruffy exterior the armor underneath looked polished and high quality. Was he higher level? He shook his head and folded his arms. "They haven't got guilds up yet, most folks are sayin' anyways. I've got a friend who needs help with some stuff and I was wondering if you'd be up for a sort of... 'unofficial sidequest', yeah?"

Scarlet nodded, "So you want me to help with this retrieval in exchange for taking me up to the top of the cathedral?"

Jacko laughed and reached up to pat her on the shoulder. "Aw come on I'm not gonna scam a newbie like that. Showin' you up there's what you get for hearing me out. I'll even throw in some food, only right to do a business deal over lunch huh Scar?" Jacko paused. "Is it okay for me to call you Scar? Don't wanna be rude, Miss."

Scarlet smiled, "Yes, Scar works. Lead the way, I'm definitely interested to see that view. And I won't turn down food, unless it's more of the 'rations'. I might pass on lunch if that's what we're eating."

Jacko scoffed and waved her after him as he set off for the cathedral, "I said lunch, not suffering Miss. I know what food is and it's not that."

Scarlet followed behind him until they were at the base of the cathedral. Jacko looked back at her. "Hope you're ready for some climbing, Miss Scar. I'll be throwing down a rope each level we go up unless your agility's good enough to follow." With that he was off, bouncing back and forth between the inner sides of a window arch until he reached the top, gripped the top of a corner, and swung himself up towards the pointed tip with a single smooth motion. He darted out of sight, and after a few moments of shuffling from further up the end of a rope flew down to the ground. "Alright, when you're ready Miss!"

Scarlet grabbed tight onto the rope, braced her legs on the wall, and began scaling up the side of the cathedral. A few seconds later she had pulled her way up to a jutting roof area a couple stories off the ground. She pulled the rope up and handed it back to Jacko, "This is going surprisingly smoothly."

Jacko shrugged at her and turned back to the next section of wall to scale, "Make a big fancy building with lots of pointy bits to grab and ledges to stand on, and somebody's going to climb it, right?"

"Someone like you?"

Jacko laughed. "You got it Miss, someone just like me."

After another two rounds of Jacko jumping his way up the side of the building and throwing down the rope for Scarlet to climb up after, the two settled on the edges of a large tower over the back end of the building. The shape made Scarlet think of a belltower, but the windows were shrouded in darkness and when she'd tried to reach in to at least feel the glass some kind of nonphysical force had pushed back against her.

"Ah yeah, like I said Miss Scar, nobody's been able to get in. Door doesn't budge, window openings push you back... A few heads have even been trying to break the physics to get in."

Scarlet finished climbing up the side. The ledge up here was surprisingly roomy. "Breaking the physics to get in? How do they even know how to try?"

Jacko scoffed and rolled his eyes, "They don't. I'm starting to think it's not even possible Miss, nobody's so much as found a misplaced hitbox yet as far as I've heard." Jacko spread out a napkin on the ledge and gestured for her to sit down. "I've got nothin' fancy yet Miss Scar but I bet you'd like some bread and jerky at least."

Scar sat down next to him and nodded. "Yes please, is there anything good to drink as well?"

"Well I'd say yes miss but you look like a perception class, if you drink the ale you'll be a bit tipsy until the buff wears off."

Scarlet sighs. "Is there any better water at least?"

Jacko stopped for a moment as he carefully laid out a set of buns and dried meat on the napkin between them, "Well..." He stroked his chin. "There's a few better waterskins than the tutorial gives, but... Ah go ahead, just don't run off with it, Miss." He pulled out a pair of water pouches and handed one to Scarlet. She popped the cap off and took a swig.

It wasn't the best, and it was warm, but it was water that didn't taste of its container. She found herself gulping it down like her first refreshment after hours of physical exertion. Which she supposed it technically was.

Jacko chuckled and kicked his legs. "Enjoying yourself Miss Scar?"

Scar wiped her lips on her sleeve and nodded. "This is the first time I've played a game this good. I almost feel like I'm experiencing everything for the first time in my life all over again."

Jacko laughed, and handed her a roll. "This is the first time anyone's played a game this good, Miss. I've never considered myself a lucky man, but getting a chance to do all this must be a blessing I think."

Scarlet smiled and took a bite out of the roll. Soft and springy, slightly savory. "Hmm... Does eating multiple things override the buffs food gives?"

Jacko shrugged and seesawed his hand back and forth. "If you eat it as a meal it mixes the buffs, yeah? But if you eat things separately you lose out based on buff priority. Also pace yourself Miss, there's debuffs for overeating."

Scarlet nodded, "Thank you Jacko." She pulled the roll open with her fingers, and put one of the pieces of jerky into it. "The rolls needed a little something extra." Jacko watched, blinking, as she took a bite out of the dry sandwich.

Scarlet hummed and poked at the sandwich. Looks like she had room for more before the buff maxed out. "I'll need to see if there's any cheese or sauce for sale in town, these are a bit dry still."

Jacko chuckled and pulled a roll apart to make his own sandwich with the food supplies, "Believe it or not Miss it hadn't occurred to me that I could do it this way. Still used to games being restrictive with cooking I guess."

He bits into his sandwich and his eyes lit up. "Oh ho..."

"Something the matter, Jacko?"

He swallowed and grinned. "Not at all Miss, the buff is actually just a bit better this way. Seems like you've already paid me back for this little picnic."

Scarlet laughed, "I'm glad I could help, Jacko." She pulled up another sandwich and gazed off into the distance as she ate. The view really was incredible. The fields at the edge of the village swept downwards until the patchwork of crops gave way to open ground, and rolling grasslands stretched out into the distance, dotted with landmarks like rock formations, small tree copses and rivers until a large ruined tower loomed at the end of the winding road. Closer than that though...

"Hey Jacko, what is that over there?"

"Que?" Jacko looked up from his food.

"Over there, on the highest spire." Scarlet pointed up: on the highest spire of the cathedral was a fluttering piece of cloth, and dug into the stone of the slope was something that glittered faintly in the sunlight.

"Ah that, good eye Miss Scar. I don't know what it is Miss, it looks like a secret treasure of some kind but I haven't been able to get up there." He shrugged. "No handholds, and too high to jump even with abilities."

Scar sighed and reached for another roll, "That's a shame." She continued staring off into the distance and listened to the mixed sounds of the village below. "You said you had a 'quest' for me, Jacko?"

"Ah, yes! I have a friend, yeah? She's trying to work on leveling alchemy, but some of the stuff she needs only comes from the early monsters you can fight out in the village fields."

Scar turned back to Jacko and raised an eyebrow, "The starter monsters? Wouldn't that be easy enough to do herself? Or yourself?"

"Well, yes, if we weren't both busy grabbing other stuff from harder areas, yeah? And all the other newbies think I'm planning to just take the drops and run."

Scar nodded, "And the other players with higher levels have better stuff to do."

Jacko gave her a thumbs up, "Just right Miss. If you can gather up a hundred or so pigtails and wheatmold spores then meet me back at spawn in a few game days, I would appreciate it much."

"And my 'quest reward'?"

"I'll buy you the best equipment the Trevas shops offer."

Scarlet tilted her head. "Trevas... That's the name of the village then?"

"Yes, Miss. Trevas is the starter town here, and the whole world map is Bariote. They have a sign back at the spawn area, surprised you didn't see it."

Scarlet bobbed her head appreciatively, "Thank you Jacko. I appreciate it." She rolled backwards from the ledge up to her feet against the tower's sloped spire. "I think I'll take you up on that offer, here's your waterskin back."

Jacko gestured for her to keep it. "Here, take the leftovers Miss Scar. Consider it an advance payment, yeah?" Without waiting for an answer, Jacko dropped a couple more rolls onto the napkin and hopped off the side of the tower. He nimbly hopped his way down between ledges and arches until he was out of sight.

Scarlet stared at the food Jacko had left her, and shrugged. Might as well hold onto it all, better that than the ration and old waterskin anyways.

New Crafting Skill: Sandwich Assembly lvl 1

Putting some food between two pieces of bread is a time honored and easy method of meal preparation, but with a good eye for ingredients and mixing there's much more you can do with it than most realize.

This skill improves the crafting quality and speed of sandwich based foods, and will unlock new recipes and techniques when leveled.

"What." Scarlet squinted at the info pop up box. "Is my first skill really going to be 'making sandwiches'? Carlin's never going to let me live this down." Another popup appeared in Scarlet's vision.

Friend Request from: Jack'o Knives

Friend Request Accepted

Crimson Scar: Hey you forgot your napkin.

Jack'o Knives: I also forgot the friend request.

Jack'o Knives: And the rope actually, you can keep that too, Scar.

Jack'o Knives: Good luck in the outskirts, Miss.

Crimson Scar: Thank you Jacko, good luck with whatever you're doing.

Jack'o Knives: Dying and traveling back from spawn over and over for the most part at the moment, so thanks for the luck miss.

Open Thread: Worldwalker Bariote

>Hey is it weird to anyone else that the world has a specific name to it already before you even get into any lore or anything?

>No not really. It's "Worldwalker" Online, presumably there'll be other realms after Bariote.

>wonder what the next one will be

>One thing at a time man. We've barely even started exploring this one!

>They named the town 2. U guys think there's more?

>There's a little hunting outpost an hour North of Trevas with a shop or two in it.

>yeah and the npcs mention a few places if you talk to them

>Friend of mine says the main road leads to an actual town if you follow it East far enough.

>Oh cool what's it like?

>He says no clue he was being chased by monsters the entire way and died before he made it in.

>Oof

>Rest in piss

>I can't believe these guys have the nerve to call this game a "beta". The best physics and sensory suite ever in the biggest map a VRMMO has ever supported and it runs like a dream.

>ikr?

>These chumps terminated my career as a gamedev three years before I got my coding degree.

>If people still play DOOM after VR tech finally got good the only thing stopping you from being a video game dev is that you still believe crap like "we can make microtransactions work this time really guys we promise".

>Shut.

>I for one welcome the prospect of finally having a game all my friends will agree to play at the same time.

>If this is the game in beta, imagine what the next realm is gonna be like...

>Baritwote. It's exactly the same but everything is twice as big.

>even the stupid huge church thing?

>Especially the stupid huge church thing.
