A police car stop in front of the cabin. Two officers walk out of the vehicle. One was a little fat and old, while the others was a little bit young looking. Both of them got out of the car while aiming their gun towards the cabin. The old officer spoke,

“Megat, we know you’re in there. Get out of the house with your hands in the air.”

*silence*

“I’m gonna count to three Megat, if you’re not coming out and surrender yourself peacefully, we’ll come in with our guns blazing.”

The young officer was startled with that statement.

“Umm sir, we were ordered to arrest him without harm. He’s the key for the Highland incident. I don’t know if threatening him will make him cooperate. Let me try sir”

“Hmph, rookie” he looks annoyed.

“Go ahead”

“Thank you sir. Megat, we know you’re innocent. We just want your cooperation. We can help you. With your information and you yourself as a witness, we can arrest those responsible Megat!”

After a few moments, a voice can be heard from the cabin.

“Alright! I’ll come out if you put down your weapon!”

“Sir!” he looks towards the officer with a smile.

“Are you stupid rookie! What if he come out with a gun and start shooting at us. You know he killed before right?”

“Yes sir, but those people were from the mafia isn’t it sir. We both know they work for the Gelxus. He’s innocent sir”

The old officer seems to contemplate. He shouted

“I hope I don’t regret this. Alright Megat! We’ll comply”

“ Thank you sir!” the rookie was beaming.

Megat got out of the cabin with his hands in the air. The two officers slowly walk towards him.

“Cuff him rookie”

“Yes Sir! Sorry Megat, It’s procedure” he took out a handcuff and start to put in onto Megat.

“You should be grateful to the rookie, if it was me, I would have come in the cabin and immobilize you with a shot or two”

“He’s just kidding Megat, he seems strict but he got a soft heart”

“Shut it rookie. We are going to the station now.” Megat seems relieved

“It’s over now. It seems my worry is..”

*siren wailing in the distance*

A police car arrive and stop abruptly in front of the cabin. Two police with a medium build suddenly came out of the car. One officer stand near the passengers door, while the other walk towards Megat and the two officers.

“Thank you officers, we’ll take it from here”

The old officers look towards the newly arrived policemen suspiciously

“Umm, sorry pal, which station are you from? Who the hell are you to come here, and take my suspect” Both of the officer seems to look eye to eye.

“We are from the Sungai Wang Department. We came here to take the suspect of the Highland Incident to the Main office for Interrogation. This was the direct order from the commissioner” The old officers eye start to squint.

“Let me talk to my partner first” The officer nod his head with a smile.

“Rookie, take Megat away from here when I give you the signal” whispered the old officers

“What? Sir? What do you mean?”

“We got the info on Megat’s whereabout 30 minutes ago. It would take at least an hour and a half for him to reach here from his district. I’d believe what he said if he drive an f1, not with that lameass police car, I am positive 1000% it is bullshit. They should be officers near our district. But lying about it makes this all seems more fishy”

“What should we do sir? They seems to block our way to the car” The old officer starts to think deeply. He eventually spoke

“Run, run as if your life depend on it. I don’t care where” Megat and the young officers looks shock.

“But, what about you sir?” the young officer look worried.

“I am old, rookie. I can’t run as fast as you”

“ Bullshit sir!”

“We’ll try to stop them, Megat” the young officer smile towards Megat. Megat seems to contemplate, but nodded his head.

“Hey rookie, what the f*ck are you doing?”

“I am not gonna leave you alone sir. We’re partners” The young officers seems resolute with his decision.

“Hmph, rookie… Fine, thank you kid”

“Thanks both of you, and goodluck” said Megat to both of them

The other officers look at three of them suspiciously. He start to signal to the other officer near the car through eye contact. Both of them start to put their hands at their holsters.

“Is there any problem officers? We can’t waste more time here. We need to hand over the suspect to the stations quick”

The old officer start to whisper

“Get ready, on three” Megat and the young officer nodded slightly.

“one…two…THREE!” Megat start to run towards the hills near the waterfalls . The officer at the car notice it and start shooting towards Megat.

“Argh!” His left leg was shot and he started to fall towards the ground. He dropped the key.

The old officer put his right hand on the holster and take out his gun. He start spinning facing the officer near him and pulled the trigger.

*click**bang*

The gun starts to flash. A bullet travel out of the barrel and flew towards its target. The officer was shocked and started to take out his gun. But, it was too late. The bullet travel half a meter and penetrate through his right eye, through the socket, out the back of his head. The body slumped, fall backward towards the ground, facing the sky lifeless.

The officer near the car shot towards the old officer . The bullet hit his chest.

“Sir!” The young officer starts to shoot erratically towards the officer near the car. He notices it, and start to take cover. The bullet failed to hit its target. It hit the window and the car door. Taking this opportunity, Megat use all his strength to get up and drag his left leg to run towards the hills.

The young officer run towards the old officer and hold him in his arms while still shooting the car. He drags him behind a large rock.

*bang*bang*

“Sir, wake up sir!”

“Sorry kid, glurg” Blood start to flow out his mouth.

“It’s alright sir, we can patch you up, it’s not that bad” a lot of blood start to flow from his wound

*Cough*cough

“You’re lying kid, glurg” stream of blood flowed out of his mouth

“Stay with me sir!”

*bang*bang*

“ I am p-proud of you kid, glurg, I’m s-sorry…” his voice start to get low, his eyes start to close and he stopped breathing.

“SIR!! SIR!!” His eyes start to get redder, his head felt numb, he felt like his blood started to boil.

“ YOU BASTARD!!!” the young officer stand up and shoot towards the car door.

*Bang*bang *bang

“RRRRAHHHHH!!!!”

When he reach the other side of the car door, he was startled. There is no one there.

“Oi” the young officer turn around. He saw a flash and suddenly, a bullet went through his skulls. His back went against the car, and his body slide down slowly. The officer walk out from behind the cabin.

“You should’ve keep a cool head kid. Urgh, damnit” the officer held on his left arm that was bleeding from the shoulder.

“What a mess. Gotta finish the job first” The officer start to chase after Megat through the blood trail left behind.

‘Shit! Shit! Shit! With a wound like this I can’t even hide anywhere. I didn’t even got to take off this cuff. Damn, it. Gotta risk it. Need to reach the waterfall. At least the water can bring me down this mountain. If I died drowning or due to broken bones, so be it. I rather by my own terms ’ I start to hear the sound of a waterfall

‘Yes, not that far. Almost there’ I start to speed up even though it hurt like hell.

*BANG*

A tree next to me was obliterated. I start to lay on the ground. I can see a silhouette behind me. He was stuck among the trees.

‘Shit, that was close’ I look up and I can see the edge into the waterfall a few meters away.

‘Alright, there are trees everywhere Megat. They can cover you. You can do this’ using all my strength, I start to sprint towards the waterfall. Maybe due to the adrenaline, my leg was no longer in pain.

*BANG*

The bullet hit my back. I staggered but did not stop. Finally reaching the edge I jump into the waterfall. I start to free fall and reach the water leg first. I can feel my body hit the rock at the bottom of the river

The officer reach the edge of the waterfall and look below.

“Well, would you look at that, with an injury like that, I don’t think he’ll be able to survive”

I was tossing and turning, I can feel my whole body hit the rocks. I think I broke my rib and the shot went through my lungs. I was taken by the current and dropped into a lake. My body can’t move. I was sinking. Everything seems dark, I don’t know where I was. I can’t feel my body. I started to lose consciousness. I can feel myself sinking slowly. People said that when you start dying, you’ll start to have flashback of what you experience throughout your life.

I start to remember my life in the orphanage when I was a kid. Being forced as a child labour to work in “helping” the orphanage. It felt like a slave camp to me instead of an orphanage. Too little to eat. Working almost 12 hours a day in a factory. It was fortunate that the orphanage still send me to school to get an education. It was my ticket out of there.

I’ve got my scholarship to a private school and got the hell out of the damn orphanage. Even though with scholarship, I still need money to buy all the school supplies. So, I work in all kinds of odd jobs. Not that many places took young teens as labourer, due to law issues. So, it’s no surprise that I’ve been exploited by my bosses. Unpaid overtime, extra shifts, low wage. If not for me needing the job real bad, I would’ve quit.

I passed my high school with flying colours and got into good university. But I still need to work to take care of myself. Still, nothings change for the better. I just got an increase in payment for my job.

Then, I got to be an intern in Gelxus after finish my university degree. Being an intern in Gelxus is not that different from my experience in a job. Still got treated like a slave worker. Being scolded due to my colleague’s error, being abused by the team leader, ’helping’ other people’s work, etc. When I finally got the full time job, I work dilligently to get a promotion and climb the corporate ladder.

I’ve finally got it and have my own team. They were my family. They make me feel that working at that stuffy office more bearable. I know they got my back, and I got theirs. All of my team have done a lot for the company, but we were still got mistreated by the management. Being overlooked by the others that have connections and the ass licker.

I thought that the company finally realise our value by promoting my team through taking charge in the Highland project. Boy, I was dead wrong. Yada..yada..yada.. money laundering, people dead, got frame, all the shits. I told my team that I’d rather take the fall for them and solve the issues my way. I’ve even warn them to stay low and don’t do anything stupid. They were stubborn, they got all the dirt on the company. But they found out, and my team were snuffed out. It was all my fault.

‘Well guys. I did it, I’ve avenged you all…Urgh’ My body reach the bottom of the lake. I lay there waiting for my death. My chest felt hot, I felt my lungs fill with water. Suddenly a blue light flashes beside me caught my eyes.

“What is that? A blue gem? ” I don’t know why. But a light under this darkness make me feel safe. I decide to touch it. I hold it in my palm.
