Chapter 1: Beginning

Chapter 1: Beginning

That day, I gawked at the sky. Rain pattered onto my umbrella and slowly rolled onto the concrete ground. Gray, blackish clouds floated in the sky and covered the sun. Business men and stay-home mothers and students encompassed me. In that time, a settling peace enveloped me. The pattering of the rain calmed my mind. The cool breeze of the brisk wind whisked my hair back. It was like time stopped. All the worries and boredom and dreams and hope dissipated in thin air. Right now, peace was the only thing that mattered. It filled and coursed through my blood and veins. A single tear ran down my cheek. As it dropped onto the wet concrete sidewalk it fused with the other tears.

"Stop crying, eh," a hoarse voice whispered.

Every muscle in my body tightened as the bitter voice reached my ears and swathed my body. I attempted to move but  a overwhelming weight lay on my shoulders and refused to let off.

"I got an offer for you."

I realized that everything was still. The people that encircled me were stuck in place like statues. The rain has stopped in mid air. The cars that cruised on the muggy road now lay silent. Nothing dared to move.

"Do you want to play a game. A game that will maybe spark your life"

A game? What kind of game is this person talking about?

"Do you want to play it?"

My life was the most original it could be. Normal life, normal brother, normal friends, normal everything. Everyday would be a repeat. Kissing my mother and hugging my father. My brother would be leaning on the garden fence, too captivated in his phone to realize I am in front of him. After a few minutes, we would walk to the bus stop. When the bus finally came, the driver would formally take off his hat and greet everybody with a warm hello. Brother and I would sit in the back of the bus, taking turns peering out the window. The bus would finally screech to a stop at the school's entrance. Teachers and students would casually pour into the school. I would attend all nine classes then meet my brother. We would amble to the bus stop. The bus driver would give us a warm hello. We would sit in the back of the bus taking turns peering out the window. Finally, the bus would come to a screeching stop. We would go home, have dinner, go to sleep, and repeat. Why would I be chosen for a game? I was the most original girl.

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

"What do you choose. Do you want to play this game?" It asked

What do I choose? Back to my normal life or a game? No worries or adventure. Fall in love with an original boy and have three children. Then die our days off in a house in the countryside while our children go to college and live their original lives. My future disgusted me. Maybe It would spark my life a little. Just a little fun right?

"Yes," I answered.

"Why did you give it to her," G!me asked.

The cloaked one snickered and spun his locket with his right pointer finger. As the luminous, golden locket spun around his finger it shined and gave a bright gleam at twelve o'clock.

"Because I feel pity for her," the cloaked one reassured.

G!me smirked and leaned his head on his left hand. His dark, blood red eyes pierced the cloaked ones mind but as he searched and investigated, the only result was a black, dark abyss.

"I have no feelings G!me, so you can not search my mind," The cloaked one teased.

G!me growled and pointed his long, bony index finger at him. On his finger, a ring made of cher diamonds gleamed brightly and gave off a overwhelming vibe.

"THEN WHY DID YOU GIVE IT TO HER," G!me hissed.

The cloaked one greedily giggled

"Because motivation empowers all others" he chuckled.

Orange light poured into my room. When I took a deep breath and entered, the room contained an exciting aura. Every object in this room felt different and new. The old, ugly painting that hung from my wall seemed almost beautiful. The clay sculptures that were resting on my desk looked content and unique. The uninteresting walls and floors appeared to be filled with vibrant colors and shapes. It was all because of the suitcase that tightly clenched in my right hand. The flower of excitement in my heart finally budded and took its form.

"Here we go," I mumbled passionately.

I dropped the suitcase on my bland, rugged carpet and quickly threw my coat across the room. With my quivering left hand, I slowly inserted a heavy, brass key. As it turned and unlocked the silver suitcase, a loud click deep in the box startled me. The gears in the suitcase wound and turned. Finally after a few more clicks and turns, the suitcase swiftly opened. For a moment, I could not see inside. Darkness enveloped it, but finally it started disappearing, revealing an object, which would change my life and destiny and bring me excitement. Inside was a thin, silver laptop.
