Ray snapped awake, the rain pounding on the roof of his house. He sprinted downstairs, or at least down what he could. The water was already filling his house, up to the fourth step of his stairs. He had forgotten to grab waterproof boots when he visited the store yesterday. He knew he had forgotten something, at least it wasn't something he needed for survival. He rolled up his pajama legs and walked his way to the kitchen. He grabbed clear wrap, went upstairs, put on pants and a long sleeve T-shirt as well as grabbing a sweatshirt. After putting on shoes he wrapped them and his legs in the clear wrap so they would not get wet when he went to the garage. He headed downstairs, he had to check and make sure the raft was working properly and that nothing had fallen off. He figured he would have more time, but the water level was rising shockingly fast.
Reaching the garage, he confirmed that the raft was still fine. No loss of supplies, and it was floating just fine. Looking out, he saw what looked like a lake with the tops of houses sticking out of it. There was no longer any power to any of these houses, it never came back after it went out. His phone had died days prior, there was no way to know for sure how the rest of the world was faring, but he could guess.
His car was essentially useless so he couldn't even grab more supplies. He had a quick breakfast of canned peaches, he didn't want to eat too much as he had no idea when he went would be able to restock. He detached the rope keeping the boat attached to the door in his garage and pushed it out of the garage. Ray hopped alonto the raft and sat down, he took a poncho out of one of his hiking bags and put it on.

He let the boat take him where it would, he didn't have any way of making it change directions easily so he just floated along. There was trash and debris floating around here and there, the water was still low enough that could still see the top half of one story houses, but considering the substantial increase in volume in one night he was sure it wouldn't be that long until those disappeared.
Ray didn't have any friends that he was worried about though he had thought about his parent safety before, not that he could do anything about it, they lived in another state. He was on his own for now, hopefully they survived and he would see them later. He saw a few people out on the roof of their house, though it was a much smaller number than he thought there should be. He stopped thinking about it, he had to worry on his own for now.
Ray believed it was now almost night, although he had no real way to know as it was always light outside now, and he was somewhat bored. Nothing had really happened since he got on the raft, so had kind of just zoned out making sure he didn't hit anything. When he took a good look he had realized the water had risen significantly. It was up to the rooftops of 1 story houses, it was terrifying how fast the water was rising. He decided to go to sleep for now and was really upset he had forgotten to bring a pillow, so he had to use the clothing backpack as a pillow instead.

Ray awoke, his entire body aching. Sleeping on wood with no blanket and a makeshift pillow was immensely uncomfortable. However even worse than that, Ray looked around, seeing almost no remains of humans nearby. Just a large body of water stretching for miles, only the top of a water tower peeking out of the water. This was it, he was truly alone now. The water level was exponentially rising, with no hope of it lowering anytime soon.
It was going to be a long day, thought Ray. There was practically nothing to do on the raft, and he was already bored. Just when he was thinking things couldn't get worse, he heard a high pitched screech from the air. Looking up to check what made the noise, he saw a giant flying... Thing. It was a square but also a circle, and also a pyramid, he had no idea what it was. It felt unreal, it was incredibly creepy, it felt uncanny. Ray looked away, he closed his eyes and tried not to think about it. He stayed that way for a few minutes, before looking back and it was gone.
