Pills of Choice
ONE way journey

ONE way journey

Death and regret. Those two were inevitable. Throughout my life I had so many encounter with the latter, and just five minutes ago I finally got to meet the former.

Yet what was supposed to be an epilogue for me had become a prologue for another story. A sequel, where the character got to experience a new adventure.

Debate about whether I deserved such a chance aside, I wanted everybody to understand one fact: Just like my birth on earth, I had no say about the continuity of my existence. It just happened. So my only choice was to accept what the fate had decide.

Though, if I could speak truthfully, there was part of me that just wanted to rest eternally. After all, I had lived a life, and I was kinda bad at it. I didn't know if I could bear another eighty years of struggle. I didn't know if I wanted to meet my dear old friends again anymore. My relationship with the ever late regret and the ever present anxiety was not pretty.

But as they said, 'it is what it is'. I had died, and now I had to live.

Fortunately for me, I was offered some gifts to bring to my second journey. In this wall-less, door-less, and roof-less white space, I was presented with nine colorful pills that were placed on top of black obsidian table. Each pills had different color, and each held a different gift. The foreign voice inside of me said that I could only choose three. After that, I would be sent to thread a new destiny.

How and why I was provided with such luxury? My best guess was that it had to do with the circumstance of my death.

I was walking down the street to local clinic so I could fix my aching teeth. Then suddenly the air split, and a rift in space appeared in front of me. It was a tear in reality, a hole to a dark dimension.

Through the fissure, I saw two beings were fighting in that place. A pure white six-winged angel was exchanging blows with a dark red six-horned demon.

If you ever wondered why some people chose to stay and watch a disaster unfolded when they should be running instead, it was because their curiosity reigned over their body, and that was exactly what happened to me.

I froze in place because I was both so bewildered and interested in abnormality before me. I instinctively opted to watch and see the battle between those two beings.

The six-winged angel fought so gracefully, she used both magic and halberd wielding technique tactfully. The six-horned demon on the other hand fought in frenzy. He used his raw strength to tank the angel's attack and launched brutal strikes.

Breaking the flow of the battle, the angel halted and quickly conjured bright golden light. She condensed it into fist-sized sphere and threw it at the demon.

The evil incarnate instantly responded by thrusting his hand into his own heart, and pulled a bloodied spinal cord sword from the inside and swung it towards the sphere of light.

The cursed-looking sword broke upon impact, but the sphere was successfully deflected. Unfortunately, I was in the condensed golden light's new trajectory. The bright sphere flew out of the dark dimension through the tear in reality, and directly hit me.

So to make long story short, the angel accidentally killed me, though I was certain there were arguments to be made in the technicality. But never mind that, I had no say on the matter anyway.

So here I am, here I remained. All alone in the boundless white space, staring at nine colorful pills on the top of black obsidian table.

I picked up the most left pill, it had white casing. There was no writing nor marking on it. But the voice inside of me whispered, that the white pill was to make me reborn anew. A baby with no memory. I would start my new life in other reality with a clean slate.

I put the white pill back, and moved to pick pill right next to it. It was a grey pill, and the ethereal voice told me that it was to transfer my soul into another body. I would have new face and new flesh. The original owner of the body had just left, 'and they were happy about it'.

I returned the grey pill and grabbed the next. It was a black pill, and should I choose this one, I would be transported as I am. Old face, old flesh, aching joints.

I put the black pill back, and inspected the rest. To summarize:

● The Red Pill would grant me a strength of a thousand men. But everything that was needed to sustain my body would increase accordingly.

● The Yellow Pill would give me the ability to summon money. I just needed to put both of my hand into two different pocket, then the money would appear in one of them. But for the rest of my life, I wouldn't be able to touch money that weren't conjured by me, or else my hand would instantly combusted.

● The Purple Pill would make me able to charm people with the weak mind. My words would carry a weight for them, my voice would able to steer their decision. But I couldn't charm those who had powerful will, deep rooted faith, or strong life principles. Instead, I would agitated them greatly.

■ The Blue Pill would grant me the ability to fly in the sky. But the height and speed at which I could reach were greatly depended on how much weight I could lift and how fast I could run on my feet.

■ The Orange Pill would make me able to pass through things. When it's active, I would automatically hover one feet above the surface so that I wouldn't sink into the earth. But this intangibility would only last as long as I could hold my breath.

■ The Green Pill would grant me invisibility. But I have to close my eyes to use it.

Furthermore, there was additional restriction. If I were to choose certain pill, then I couldn't choose two particular others.

So, between the white, the grey, and the black pill, I could only choose one. The same rule applied to the red, the yellow, and the purple. And so was it to the blue, the orange, and the green.

After going over my options and its restrictions, I took a deep breath and sighed. It's the time for me to choose.
