Chapter Four- PRIDE!

ZUMA

Four years Later

Time.

The essence of it was keeping it, making memories of it, that’s why we counted our age in numbers, ran along with clocks and lived according to schedules, because if we didn’t keep it, it became absolutely meaningless and incorporeal, we existed in time and if it made no meaning, then all semblance of reality was shattered.

I had existed in the blackness for too long, dwelled in meaningless dreams and in all my lucidity I had not once forgotten that I was nothing more than a trapped dying girl, stuck in the machinations of her own mind, that’s why today was different, because today my dosage was late, today I was awake and for the first time in four years Zuma existed again.

The room I was in was simply a shrine to one of the first terrors of my life, his picture occupied the four corners of the room, staring down on me and mocking me, the old hospital had been in the Matron’s family for years and I’d only succeeded in walking into the den of another obsessive maniac, only this one was quite determined to keep me alive no matter the cost.

The attendant made a quiet habit of doing things, keeping his mouth sealed and pretending that I did not exist was probably the only way hd could keep his job going, my dosage was to arrive much later today, but until then I could be alive.

If only being alive wasn’t so painful, every moment left a bitter aftertaste in my tongue and some body parts of mine remained numbed, possibly atrophied from time, in a short while I had come to miss the dark, if only for the relief from pain.

I stared at the grayness of the wall for what seemed to be hours, a whole world out there but a single wall stopped me from taking it, was it too much to ask for just one normal day, one day of control and freedom, to live again even if I died tomorrow. The tears drooped down and I couldn’t even muster enough strength to dry them off, any moment now, the drug would arrive and I would be put to sleep again, a living memento of a monster’s memory

The sun had just begun to wane when a loud shout echoed through out the building followed by muffled sound s of feet shuffling and something akin to the breaking of bones, my ears were a bit sensitive and I could hear heavy footsteps approaching my room as the Matron burst in, her eyes reddened and wild

“You’re coming with me!” She howled, any semblance of her calmness completely gone with the wind, replaced by vile treachery instead “I won’t let him have you!”

The needles hooking ip yo machines were ripped off rather violently and a tiny yet hoarse cry of pain escaped my lips, with absolute strength she hoisted me up just as sounds of gunshots echoed throughout the building and began to make way for the door.

Her hands had just clasped over the knob when a forceful impact blew us backwards, we flew off to opposite corners if the room and a wave of pain assaulted my senses, it seemed like another one of my nightmares as what would be considered as the tallest man I had ever seen walked into the room.

As the last rays of the sun passed over the room glinting off of his skin, I could have sworn that there was some sort of metallic sheen to it, making him look completely unnatural with his piercing coal black eyes. He held onto a large rucksack and a smile that could only be described as completely evil spread across his face revealing rather sharp teeth.

“You cannot have her!” The matron howled crazily “She’s Mine”

Completely ignoring her he set his sights on me.

“I am a few years late so I’ll apologize” he said still holding his sinister smile “Bur don’t worry I come bearing gifts, some fresh, some a few years old”

The large rucksack tumbled to the ground and more than a few heads rolled to the ground one of which stood out completely encased in ice, his face twisted in abject terror, Paul’s lifeless eyes seemed to be begging for mercy and I couldn’t help as a shudder coursed through my weak body

“I guess introductions are in order Zuma” His deep voice resonated with the silence that encased the room “I am Able and you are coming with me”

“No” my voice came in a hoarse whisper, fear gripping me “No please!, No, No, what have you done?, are those children in there?!”

“Everyone who has hurt you and Everyone who has watched you get hurt, down to the second generation, I think there’s a baby here somewhere, but that matters not!, you are coming with me just as soon as I complete the set”

“No” My voice wobbling even more this time “Not another monster, please just be a dream, just be a dream!, what do you mean complete the set?”

He gives a chesire cat’s grin and walks towards the shivering yet silent Matron with great big strides, and in a sweeping motion with nothing hut his bare hands he brutally severs her head from her neck tossing it into the pile

“There now they are finally reunited” He said before his big grin turns entirely deadly “And I wasn’t giving any option Zuma, you are far too important, if I have to burn this entire town and grate it’s citizens to dust I will, you are coming with me”

The Matron’s body still spasming, spewing blood over the white walls, there’s finally some color in the room, I cannot help but shiver as I struggle to maintain contact woth this gigantic hulk of a man

“I-I c-can’t stand, I’m dying”

His evil grin returns with a slow fire burning in his eyes

“That’s no problem Zuma” he said still smiling “tell me, do you believe in magic?”
