Booster checked the feed on the drone to make sure he was framed correctly with the EV Oracle’s main controls behind him. The somewhat bright lights were overpowering the illumination from the drone.

“RETA, drop the illumination in the room by 25%.”

RETA acted accordingly and the camera adjusted to the new light level.

Oh yeah, he thought as he checked the camera view, this was going to be great.

He checked his somewhat messy brown hair and smoothed his eyebrows. Satisfied, he settled back in his chair, hit the record button and smiled wide.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

“Hey everybody, Booster Prime here!” He smiled dramatically and he held up finger guns to the camera. “Just another little entry into Booster’s Oracle Vlog. Some of us are currently out of stasis to check over the Oracle’s systems. We can, of course, do most of this from the scrum, but it’s standard procedure to check everything with real eyes.” He pointed to his eyes and waggled his eyebrows. He launched himself out of his chair and moved closer to the controls. The drone followed his movement.

“As you can see, we have no gravity. All the ship’s systems are designed to run like this in deep space and since the crew and colonists spend the vast, vast majority of their time in a scrum in immersion capsules so, it’s not really needed. If you look here, we are on our way to...huh.” Booster lost his train of thought when he pointed to the screen that showed their destination and the pertinent details of their progress. “We are supposed to be going to a system called Sigma Delphini.” Booster mumbled and looked as if it now stated their destination was another system called Epsilon Argyra.

He heard a snort from the doorway and a snarky female voice. “Booster Prime?”

Booster looked up and saw Medusa. “Oh, hey Med. You know anything about a course change?”

Medusa floated in but tried to stay out of view of the drone’s camera. “Yeah, it changed yesterday. The captain is supposed to make an announcement later today. There’s a new scrum loading.”

Booster nodded thoughtfully. “Does this new planet have a better score? Delphini had a crazy high habitability score with an index of .73.”

Medusa nodded, her almost unnaturally vibrant red hair pulled back in a short ponytail which matched the slight red glow of her ocular implants. “I think it was in the high 8’s. It’s a G-type star like Earth’s. Some debris or something in orbit around the planet threw off the remote readings so it was a low priority. A Gen 2 probe flew by and performed a survey, and it looks almost perfect. The captain will fill everyone in later. That is the full extent of my knowledge on the matter.”

Booster smiled again. “Wow...in the eights. Of course, it could all come crashing down if it has some weird radioactive cloud. I guess the probe would have caught that though.”

Medusa considered it for a moment before she grinned, “Still doing this flog thing?”

Booster rolled his eyes. “It’s a VLOG, not a flog. And yes, I don’t think you understand how monumental this is. We are going to be the founders of a new civilization on a new planet.” He pointed to his drone, “This is a historical record, people will want to see how it was and what we did.”

“Hmmm, I don’t know. I feel like it’s going to end up like watching someone’s vacation vids.”

“Did you ever make vacation vids?”

“Yeah, but it's not like I'm ever going to look over them again.” Medusa lied. She had never been on a vacation in her life.

“Still, someone you train one day, or even someone generations from now might learn of the Great Medusa and want to know what she was like in her ensign days.” Booster said with a smile and outstretched arms in mock praise.

Medusa just shook her head with a grin. “Great Medusa? Or Medusa Prime? Yeah, I REALLY don't think anyone will be interested to learn about what I did on this boring space voyage between worlds.”

“Where we are going, we can all be primes. On Earth, I was Boosterred#8943. On Delphini, er Argyra, or wherever we end up, I will be Booster Prime. You will be Medusa Prime. And what do you mean boring? What about all these scrums where we are pitted against the worst conditions with only our wits to survive?” Booster said with his head cocked to the side.

Shrugging it off, Medusa leans back. “Well yea, but it's not like any of that really mattered. Even if we died in a scrum, we got to start over again.”

Booster pursed his lips pensively. “Being in security you probably didn’t see a lot of action. Most of these scenarios had no other lifeforms which really limited the need for security and defense.” He mulled it over. “That was a bit short-sighted. There was a heck of a lot of engineering”

“Well then, they are lucky to have you on their team, aren't they. I'm sure the Great Booster Prime will figure it out and generations to come will watch your flog on it with awe.”

Booster narrowed his eyes and looked over to see Medusa making the same mock gesture as he just did. “Oh yea, well maybe they will watch it one day.”

*Ding* “System Alert!” A female voice announced via their implants. “There will be an all hands meeting in one hour in scrum.”

Booster looked over at Medusa with a maniacal smile and a twinkle in his eye, “Adventure!”

She looked at him flatly, “You’re a bonafide idiot. Idiot Prime.”

Booster giggled. “Did you finish your security sweep?”

Medusa nodded.

“Then, let’s get to the capsules!”

“Don’t forget your flog.”

“Vvvv-log!”

----------------------------------------

Booster made his way to the Engineering quarters and found his cabin. He stripped down and put his clothing away. He stepped into a white and somewhat rounded coffin shaped object. To call it a coffin might be a bit understated. It was big. It could easily fit a person much bigger than Booster who was average height. There was room to move.

He plugged the neurojack into the port behind his right ear. A checklist came up in his view. It wasn’t something in his vision physically but rather tapped into his visual cortex via the cybernetic implant that everyone on the ship had. He followed the checklist by plugging in the umbilical at his navel. This would provide sustenance along with any pharmaceuticals needed to keep his brain and body alive. Booster straddled the waste catcher. This was a U-shaped scoop attached to a tube that went into the rear of the capsule. He put the respirator in his nose and a mouthpiece to help keep his mouth sealed.

Completing the checklist, he pressed a button to seal up the capsule. The walls of the capsule inflated with a gel to take up most of the space and give some support to his body. Then, fluid which was already at about his external body temperature began filling the still open spaces in the capsule. The macrofluid flowed from the head and foot of the capsule and was pulled into the waste catcher. This macrofluid not only provides some buoyancy to the body in the capsule but it also pulls away any waste, sweat, and dead skin and loose hair.

New messages began populating.

Cybernetic connection active.

Umbilical connection active.

Respiration normal.

Fluid pumps operational.

Entering Lobby.

Booster smiled to himself and thought, “Adventure!”
