Chapter 34
"Oh man I'm never going to get over that." Beth sat back and stared at Blue who stood next to Zach in the center of the living room and Aoi who sat in the chair next to her.
"Well get used to it." Aoi grumbled as she leaned back on the sofa and made herself at home. "She's the one who's copying me."
Zach tuned the two of them out and closed his eyes to focus on his link to Blue. He was ready for another attempt to turn Blue visible to non-psychics.
"I'm really looking forward to seeing her." Zach's mom sat at the dining room table with a coffee cup in front of her. She had a rare off day, so she'd decided to spend it at home with her son and his two house guests… who were both young women in their early twenties.
If she hadn't known about the whole 'ghost' situation, she would have been much more against this. That she was needed for the experiment was only a bonus.
It had been a week since Gestalt had managed to destroy the Nightmare made Manifest. Since then most of the other exorcists had already left town, but not before giving Zach their contact information. They also left promises, to spread the word of a powerful exorcist boy and his ghost partner.
Which meant their whole goal for becoming exorcists in the first place was complete. The odds of someone hearing about them and coming to exorcize Blue without hearing she made up half of the exorcist who destroyed the Nightmare made Manifest, was now almost zero.
Now there were only four exorcists left in town, and that number was about to drop again. Lady Gray and Beth were both set to head out early the next day. Someone Lady Gray knew had let her know of a job up in Indiana. So with only one day left in Florida, Beth had decided to spend it watching her two fellow exorcists try to figure this little trick out.
"Okay how about now?" he asked his mom, hoping for the best. He steadied his breathing, trying to keep the flow of psychic energy between them steady and stable.
"I mean, I can sort of see a blue blur, that's about it." She shook her hand in a 'so-so' gesture. "She was clearer the last time."
"Okay then I think I know just how much to use." Zach cut off the psychic flow and got ready to do it again. They'd been at this for a few days now, whenever either of Zach's parents or Tyler were available. It was a tricky technique, too little power and she would appear faintly or blurry. Too much power and she would turn invisible for some reason. There was an exact amount they needed to make her visible, and hopefully, touchable.
And Zach was pretty sure he'd figured it out.
"Okay here goes." He let the power flow between them again, concentrating on the exact amount he needed to circulate between the two of them.
"How about now?" He asked his mom, hoping for an answer. He didn't get one. Instead, the woman in question had gotten up from her chair and walked into the living room.

"My, aren't you a pretty one." Blue's eyes flew open as she realized Zach's mom was talking to her. "Maybe I should start getting worried about you hanging out in his room all day."
"Does that mean you can see her?" Zach had to fight to keep himself from falling into his mom's game.
"Yes, I can see her." She held her hand out, Blue stared at it like it was some sort of bizarre creature. She slowly approached her hands before hovering them right in front of it.
"Well this is it." She said, trying to hype herself up. Despite the clear attempt, Blue's hand refused to move forward a single inch. In fact, it almost looked like the girl herself was frozen in place. "Yeah I can do this."
"Oh wow, she's as bad as I was when I was her age." Aoi snickered before looking over at Zach who was doing his best to concentrate on maintaining a flow. "Remind me to tell you about my first time telling a boy I liked him. It happened like three months before…" Zach did his best to block Aoi out as she gestured towards Blue.
Zach mom, on the other hand, rolled her eyes at the young ghost's hesitation and reached forward pushing her hand into hers.
It didn't go through.
Blue stared at the hand touching hers and started leaning forward and floating over it.
"I can't believe it." She finally whispered.
"Well you better believe it." Blue yelped as she was suddenly pulled forward into a hug. She froze in place as Zach's mom held her arms around her. "I'm not a hundred percent sure what Zach's been up to, but I'm pretty sure you there at last a little bit he'd rather I not know about right? Thank you for looking out for him."
"Well now that you can be seen and touched, you ready to meet up with Mom?" Blue yelped again at Aoi's question. Letting out a slight pulse of psychic energy which disturbed the lights and distracted Zach just enough.
Taylor gasped as she suddenly fell forward. Blue immediately floated up and over her and placed her hands in front of her mouth in mortification.
"I'm so sorry!" She started floating around Taylor frantically. "Zach tell your mom I'm sorry."
"Blue you're panicking too much. Mom, she says she's sorry." The woman in question quickly recovered and got back to her feet.
"Oh it's fine. You're probably even more nervous about that then you were to finally meet me." She chuckled as Blue looked down and for a second, Zach could almost feel her embarrassment. Her cheeks would be bright red right now if they could.
"Well I have to head out and give my Mom the good news." Aoi declared as she went to leave the room.
"What a charming sister you have there Blue." Beth smirked as Blue found herself smiling.
For the first time since she'd woken up in a dusty cabin, Blue felt like she could call this place home.
