Magic?!/ Father's Friend

Magic?!/ Father's Friend

The morning sun's brilliant rays shine upon my face as I awaken at the break of dawn, A childish glee flash's across my face when I take a glance at the never-ending amount of books contained in this unfamiliar room. Since last night I've had a little amount of sleep, I mean how could I when I'm in this heavenly environment! Without a minute to waste, I browse across each section of this small scale library. My objective is to get one book from each row and transport it back to my room before my mother awakens.

To accomplish this task I will have to repeat this process multiple times. I start with the most important ones, first the geography and laws, and then the culture and common information of this world. Another one of my goals is to figure out if magic or other aspects of a fantasy world exist here and if they do try to figure out how they work, can everyone use it, and most importantly what are the dangers?

I set my plan into motion as my hands fly around snatching books here and there while my tiny legs rampage around the room, half an hour later and I've stacked fifty-four books together. All of them from different segments of this study. Ha, the first step completed, now all that's left is the tricky task of transporting them back to my lair. If I compare the number of books that I can transport to how many there are, it will take me approximately twelve back and forth trips.

My mind reverts back to reality and I set off with five books on my strong baby back, while I carefully crawl towards my chambers. This process is repeated seven more times with success when all of a sudden, I step on a creaky floorboard. My calm aura fades as I hear footsteps coming in my direction, faced with such tragedy I make a quick decision and frantically rush towards a random house plant and hide behind it with my half a dozen books in tow.

Not daring to let out even the slightest of breaths I stay there waiting, I recognize my father's confident and rhythmic footsteps getting closer and closer until they eventually pass my position and continue forward. I stay frozen in my area for a while, then I check to see if the coast is clear, and after confirming one last time I return to my dishonorable activities.

Puffing my chest out, I stare at the pile of fifty-four books with a contempt grin plastered across my face.

Fufufu, It took a while but I have succeeded. I would like to thank my parents and everyone who has supported me to this point, as well as my beautiful and powerful right and left legs for carrying me all the way here! After completing my selfish inward monologue I proceed to rummage through my room like a madman in search of a suitable hiding spot. Countless seconds later I find myself transporting all the stolen books to a secure and hidden spot under the counter next to my crib.

Exhaustively, my body climbs atop the counter, walks to the edge, and jumps down into my crib. Being tired is sort of a blessing in disguise as I instantly fall asleep as soon as I come in contact with the bedsheet. I sleep like a baby, no pun intended. Unbeknownst to me during my slumber two shadows slowly opened the door to my room and observed me from the tiny crack they just opened.

"This child of ours is truly peculiar, don't you think so Konza," The female silhouette remarked with an inquisitive and curious tone.

"Yes we have indeed brought an anomaly into this world, but never the less he is still our son. Our duty as parents is not to judge but to simply raise a respectful and capable child." Replied the muscular shadow with a deep voice.

After their brief discussion ended the two people disappeared from the door. It was mid-day already when I awoke once more. Sorting my thoughts from last night out I exited my comfortable little crib and directly skipped my usual morning training, this was not done out of laziness but simply out of practicality. Currently, I'm 90% sure that my stats will be stuck at the nineteen point benchmark until I reach the [child] state so it would be a waste of time to practice until then.

Although this is true, it doesn't mean I don't have to train since [Vitality], [Intelligence], and [Wisdom] are all under nine teen-points. Thus, I continued with my masochistic behavior and straight-up jumped off the counter onto my face, repeatedly. I swear I don't enjoy it! Once my 'training' session was completed I finally got to the good stuff. You see, since yesterday I've been barely containing myself because why I was browsing my mothers' book collection I stumbled upon a section called Magic!!

Around fifteen out of the fifty-four books that I stole are about magic! A surprise was an understatement of what I felt when I saw that section of the library. Unfortunately, I couldn't take all of the books there due to my baby body, but still, this is freaking magic! I rush forward, with an anticipation filled face. My hands dart across the pile until I eventually find a thick book by the name of 'Magic and stuff for dummies', although the title stings a bit I disregard it and began immersing myself in this book.

Hidden under the counter my butt-ox does not move an inch for approximately three hours before my stomach starts demanding for some food, I quickly rush towards my mother and ask her to feed me, after my meal I immediately return to my room and continue the delight that is this book. A whole week of masochistic behavior and nonstop reading and passes by until it is no longer possible to continue since I have to take a break for my birthday tomorrow.

I'm relatively excited because my father said one of his friends is coming over to celebrate with us, it will be a nice change because I haven't been allowed outside or even met anyone other than my parents yet. Thankfully, this week of immersing myself in magic, geography, and culture books has been very beneficial to me. From the information I've gathered, I know that the house I'm living in is located on the outskirts of Alaxa city, in Orpha country just like the system message said I would be.

I've also learned that this country is ruled by the dwarf race, although I can't understand why my human and dark elf parents can live here. It makes no sense, after all, it is stated in the books that dwarfs are fair creatures that are biased towards other races simply because the others are also biased towards them, thus it would be weird to let others into their country. There are seven country's on this continent and the different races each have their own country's that they rule.

The book that I read about magic stated that all intelligent lifeforms are born with their own magic power and magic element. One of the requirements to even be classified as living is having magic power. From what I've gathered there are two kinds of magic, Elemental magic which is usually just referred to as magic, and miscellaneous magic which is the process of simply pushing your magic power around. Miscellaneous magic is basically telepathy but it isn't used much due to its requirement of having precise control over your magic power.

In elemental magic there are five domain laws and two domain principles, added up together they become the seven elements of magic. You may be wondering what the difference between the principles and laws are, the answer is that the domain principles are more powerful and versatile than the laws in every way. The five domain laws are fire, water, wind, lightning, and earth respectively. Afterward, there are two domain principles which are space and light.

That's basically where I got to after reading four books about magic. The only problem is that I have no idea how spells are formed, Hmm, I'll keep searching later. Fortunately, it's my birthday tomorrow, since it's a special day I head off to bed early in anticipation of the celebration of my first year in this new world.

Resplendent rays sneakily crawled past the blinds, through the thin hairs on the grey carpet, and onto a tiny face with a serene expression. Soft breaths could be heard throughout the room, the quietness of the surroundings further emphasized this consistently silent but powerful sound. The soft face twitched once, then twice, soon after a pair of golden eyes revealed themselves from behind delicate eyelids.

A look of excitement flash's across my baby face as a loud yawn slips through my lips, afterward I did a few light stretches in my comfortable little crib, and leaped out of it. Landing onto the stiff counter I immediately sprang onto the floor with glee. The door to my room creaked open, 'pat-pat' these sounds kept echoing repeatedly as the soon to be one-year-old me rushed towards the direction of the kitchen.

Today is the day, I kept having thoughts like this until I finally arrived at my destination. Standing in front of me were a gentle mother and domineering but caring father, both of them kept doing whatever they were doing before I arrived in the kitchen. Dad was setting the table while mom was whipping up something that smelt really good, I could already feel my saliva slipping through my lips.

Seconds passed before my father eventually noticed my presence, he gradually made his way towards me.

"Goad... Mown-ning, Dada" these jumbled up sounds came out of my mouth. As a respectable reincarnated baby I played my role perfectly, fufu, there is no way they suspect me, I'm so sneaky. After calming down my internal dialect I eventually let my father dote on me for a while before making my way towards my mother.

She turned the temperature of the medieval stove down before making her way to me, we talked like usual before she told me to return to my room and wait a little bit while they prepare everything. Heading their words I make my way towards my room once again. Creaking sounds echoed throughout the hallway as I pushed the door to my room and entered this little lair of mine. As soon as I entered I rushed to the counter, made my way below it, and then grabbed one of the books about the animals of this world. Recently through the many books, I've kept myself occupied with I managed to learn that this world is named [Ainsel].

I resist my urge to instantly crack open this book and begin reading. First I need to check my status and see how much I've improved recently. After all, it has been a while.

- Pain Resistance: lv 3|| ]

Unsurprisingly my [Wisdom] stat also made its way to the [Abnormal] status section, further confirming my original thoughts. It seems that my masochistic behavior and bookworm lifestyle have paid off, seeing as my [Pain Resistance] and [Common] improved, as well as my [Intelligence] attribute approaching the nineteen points. I wonder if there are level caps for my skills and if so how do my skills' levels compare to others?? Something to think about later I guess.

Putting these thoughts to the back of my mind I reach for my half-explored book once more and begin reading anew. An hour and a half later and I find myself being picked up by my father's gentle fingers while being dragged back to the kitchen with my eyes firmly shut. Seemingly, my parents want to surprise me with something. "Can I ...O-pen ma eyes... yet?" Along the way, I constantly nag my father until we finally arrive.

"Okay, you can finally open your eyes now Itsuki" My mother utters from the opposite end of the kitchen.

As soon as I comply with what the mother says, I immediately see a tremendous amount of birthday decorations sprawled across the kitchen's walls. I'm truly touched by the amount of effort that went into these paper decorations, there are even origami animals and paper planes flying around the room. If I were to guess I would say it is probably mother using miscellaneous magic, doesn't that mean that she has high levels of control in mana manipulation then? So the trees father's been cutting down lately were most likely to make these paper decorations, if that's true then how did he make the paper itself? Hmm, maybe my parents aren't as simple as they seem.

All this doesn't change the fact that they both put a lot of effort into this, and that truly touches me. I guess it never really hit me but I'm sure about it now. In the beginning, I thought that it might be a dream, or a coma, maybe even virtual reality, anything that might prove that this odd situation of mine is fake...But this...This is a different world! There is no denying it anymore, I have to accept that this is no longer earth and these people are my parents. That also means that I have to be able to accept the love they give me and return it to them as well because so far I've only been pretending. No more of that, these people deserve my love and trust.

"Are you okay Itsuki, what is it? Do you not like the paper animals, we can change them if you want" Hurriedly my mother questions in a delicate voice as she attempts to soothe me with a worried expression across her face. Oh, it seems I unknowingly let a few tears escape. Ugh, utterly embarrassing for a mature individual of my caliber. Delicate fingers make contact with my face as they rush to wipe away the drops.

"It's...nothing...I am j-just so happy, thank you. I like it very much!" I promptly reassured in my broken baby accent, I truly hate having to speak in such a messed up way. The worry on my parent's faces digresses as they hear what I utter.

"Your boy seems very mature for his age Konza. Aha, I believe he'll grow to become a fine individual" All of a sudden, a husky voice states from behind me. Immediately spooked, my body automatically jerks up. When did this person get here? My head abruptly makes a turn as I try to locate the whereabouts of this person.

"Why do you sound so surprised he is my son after all! Did you think your oldest friend would lie to you?" My father reply's in a teasing voice, but not before getting a good wack on the nape of his head by mother. It seems she's not too glad that dad snatched the credit for my brilliance.

"It is because he's your son that it is so surprising to me, it seems that it comes from his mother's side instead!" The strange fellow hiding in the rooms' shadow's retorts with a hint of mockery. I'm guessing he's the friend father was talking about earlier conjecturing by the familiar way he interacts with my parents.

I quite like him, He seems to be able to bring out the childish side of my father. The contrast to his usual tough man persona is much appreciated. In fact, I believe only people that are really close to him can do such a thing- myself included. After their brief exchange of words the mysterious men walk out from the shadows and his appearance is gradually revealed. A thick beard is the first thing I notice, then the middle-aged face, afterwords I spot the chiseled muscles decorating his large body, and I notice last of all his extremely short stature.

Dwarf, that's the first word that pops into my mind. Surprisingly, it's a dwarf or should I say unsurprisingly since we are after all in the dwarf-en motherland.

"What, your mother never teach you not to stare or something?" Barks the dense bearded dwarf man. I guess I was staring for too long, oops. I quickly apologize and he forgives me with a harrumph, I suppose he doesn't like when people look at him or something? Without delay, the celebration of my first birthday resumes. We do the usual, eat, have cake, open presents, laugh, and have fun. I think I might be starting to like Ainsel.
