I started writing this story about a year ago. At the time, I was stationed abroad—depressed, bored, the whole package.

I watched way too many movies and kept noticing the same frustrating pattern in sci-fi: the grunts always die in the first ten minutes, the army crumbles, and suddenly, it’s up to a handful of pretty protagonists—the hero, their equally attractive love interest, and a bunch of goofy sidekicks—to save the world.

It’s a bastardization of sci-fi. That’s not how history works. It wasn’t George Clooney and his pals who saved the world from fascism. It was Nikolaj, a 25-year-old tank commander in Kursk. John, a 20-year-old paratrooper holding Bastogne. Lui Wei, a 30-year-old Chinese militia sniper ambushing Japanese soldiers.

If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

Sci-fi should be no different. History is written in the blood of people like them.

Anyway, here's a goat cheese with honey pasta sauce recipe I really enjoy. Go overboard with the honey and cheese.

Ingredients:

* 8-10 oz pasta; I used spaghetti

* 4 oz Goat cheese at room temperature; I used garlic & herb goat cheese; see notes

* 1.5 oz cream cheese softened

* 2 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive oil

* 1/2 tbsp Honey

* 1/2-1 tsp Salt as per taste

* 1/ tsp Pepper

* 1/2 tsp Red chili flakes

* 1/8 tsp Nutmeg

* 1-2 cups Pasta water; save all pasta water

* Chopped parsley to garnish

Directions:

1. In a food processor add goat cheese, cream cheese, honey, olive oil, salt, pepper, chili flakes, and nutmeg.

2. Blend together till everything is combined. Scrape the sides of the bowl to make sure all is combined.

3. Transfer the mixture to a mixing bowl or deep dish.

4. Boil pasta of your choice in salted water till a little over al dente. Don’t use too much water while boiling so the water is starchy. This helps the pasta soak flavors better since the sauce is a no-cook sauce. Reserve pasta water.

5. Add the boiled pasta to the goat cheese mixture.

6. Add 1-1.5 cups of pasta water to the bowl and give it a toss till the goat cheese combines with the pasta water and forms a sauce and coats the pasta. Add more water as needed to get the consistency you want.

7. Garnish with chopped parsley and red chili flakes and serve.
