The Start Of Suffering

The Start Of Suffering

“Mom, Dad, and George.”

“Look what I made at school today!” Peppa exclaimed, holding up a drawing that depicted her family with bright, crayon colors. Daddy Pig smiled faintly, “Wow, it’s so realistic!”

“I know… It looks just like you, Daddy!” She beamed.

Daddy Pig stood up; his expression faded as he slowly made his way to the door. Mommy Pig rose to take his hand, her eyes filled with concern. “Where are you going, Daddy Pig?”

“I’m going to the bar.”

“Okay,” Peppa and George replied in unison, their voices carrying an innocent tone. “Bye, Daddy.”

After they waved goodbye, Peppa and George settled into their bedtime routines. Later, as Peppa got out of bed to head to the restroom, she noticed George’s bed was empty. A twinge of unease prickled her skin as she quietly crept downstairs, thinking George might have gone to get some water.

But what she discovered sent a chill through her tiny frame—her mother lay motionless on the floor, the scene a horrific tableau. Blood pooled beneath her, and the grotesque sight of exposed organs was almost too much for Peppa to bear. An unbearable odor seeped into the air, overwhelming her senses.

As Peppa descended the stairs, a dazed look of horror clouded her face. She walked closer to her mother’s lifeless body, her heart racing as panic engulfed her. “This is a dream, this is a dream, this is a dream,” she repeated, clinging to the useless hope that it was all a dream.

For what felt like hours, Peppa stood completely still above her mother’s corpse, covered in flies, as the truth sank in—her mother was dead, her brother was missing, and her father had vanished. In that moment, something inside her snapped.
