Rio’s plans for Venus were put on hold. Before the awakened could blubber out an excuse or beg, Rio got another call.
“Riollo, I heard the news about your brother. My deepest sympathies.” Rio could feel the temperature drop through the phone. Seishan never showed real emotions, and never ones like sorrow.
“What do you want?”
“I heard you tried to find where I was meeting him, unsuccessful?”
“I did, but my time is better spent on something other than who you decide to wrap around your finger.” Rio was ready to end the call but Seishand stopped him.
“It was really Mordret.” The name hung in the air for a while. Mordret. It clicked in Rio’s brain. The fallen Prince of Valor.
“I was informed you were meeting a potential Saint, who would have thought it was Valor’s broken toy. What was he like?” Rio didn’t bother hiding his interest, Seishan would choose to share whether or not she wanted to.
“Interesting, a tad insane.”
“A perfect match, I’ll send flowers to the wedding.” Rio heard something that was either her suppressing a laugh or strangling someone, he couldn’t tell with her.
“Aren’t you interested in what I called you for?” Seishan returned to her ‘I’m scheming voice’ and it made Rio cringe. Some might describe Seishan as an elegant speaker, but Rio always heard venom, when he got past the odious smell of meat she always had.
“You want to run away and get married on the far corner of the Earth? Sorry, you’re not my type. Also why is it ‘corners?’ the earth is round last time I checked.”
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
“I don’t know if I should scoff at your stupidity, or punish you for your rudeness.”
“They’d be the same thing with me. Now can you get this over with?”
“I want you to work with Mordret and slay Valor’s saints.”
The air dropped several more degrees.
“Pass. Why would I team up with ‘prince wack job’ to run errands?”
“Don’t underestimate saints Rio, you of all people should know their power.” Rio frowned, not that Seishan could see, but it put him in that head space. Rio did know their power, it was the whole reason he became a master.
“You meet him at eight, I'll send you the location.” Seishan started to wrap things up. Despite Rio’s complaints, and refusal, he can’t actually go against Song's daughter. “Oh and wear something more formal than a hoodie and shorts.” She hung up.
‘How would she know what I was wearing?’ His communicator buzzed with an address. This day was getting better or worse, Rio didn’t know yet. He tapped the glass on his brother’s
pod.
“I’m heading out for a bit,” he whispered. A smile couldn’t help but crawl on his face. His brother was already different.
