Imagine you were spun around to the point you felt sick, disorientated and oddly confused. That feeling was the best way to describe Ambros' current status. Hunching over, the burning of bile was rising up his throat, spewing out his mouth as he attempted to regain his bearings. Regret washed over him, walking through that doorway proving to be quite a mistake, not that he had much of a choice to do otherwise. Whatever little substance that had been within Ambros had now been forced out, raising his head to reveal several people around his own age staring at him with a mix of disgust and pity.
Unlike Ambros, who had been sent to this place, these people had been born and raised here, fully accustomed to the practices and traditions of this land. Suffice to say, Ambros was at quite a disadvantage at this moment, having already made quite the pathetic entrance and already being looked down upon by others without even uttering a word. Stumbling forward, Ambros makes his way towards the gathering, trying to ignore the burning of stares raining down upon him as he stands in the crowd, attempting to figure out what was going to happen next.
"Quite the entrance you made there."
An amused tone as Ambros turns to face the source, a rather short and scrawny man much like himself yet somehow far more different in his personality and demeanor. From a single sentence and glance alone, Ambros knew that this person was far more capable than he was, despite their physical appearances resembling one another. A sigh escapes his lips, one of embarrassment and defeat.
"I wasn't trying to, it was my first time going through something like that."
Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
The sound of stifled laughter passes through Ambros' ears, staring at the person with an unamused expression. His laughter only added insult to injury, worsening Ambros' mood further.
"You've never used a spatial doorway before?"
Ambros shook his head in response, somewhat startled that something like that was so common as to invoke such a response from this person. It was hard to believe that such a disorientating device could be perceived as a common tool and something that was no different from simply walking.
"Forget it, you look even more confused than me. Nice to meet you, I'm Nero."
He extended his hand out to Ambros, his hands calloused from what could only be years of physical labor. Ambros hesitates for a moment before accepting it, his hand lightly wrapping around Nero's, the latter gripping his hand tightly with a strength that was unexpected from someone of his appearance.
"I'm Ambros."
He looks around for a moment, still unaware as to what was happening. It seemed that Nero definitely would know what was going on and asking certainly wouldn't hurt, especially since he had proven to be quite friendly from the get-go.
"So, do you know what's happening now?
Nero stares at him with a raised eyebrow, as if he were questioning him.
"Well-"
Nero's words were suddenly cut off by a large sound, the sound of someone clearing their throat. From no direction in particular, a voice echoed out in the area, addressing all those gathered in the crowd.
"ATTENTION! I'm sure we have all made you wait long enough by now. As many of you might already be aware, we will now commence the first proper test. It shall be rather simple, just survive."
Laughter echoes out following the last word, the speaker clearly excited for what was to come. The first test was always the easiest, rather simple and straightforward. There was no trickery to the words, the test would be exactly what was said.
