The break of dawn

The break of dawn

With a new year countdown filling the streets, the sky was sparkling brightly with a beautiful display of fireworks. There was a lot of traffic on the streets, and several individuals were happily enjoying the scenery.

1 year prior

A certain individual's alarm clock rang at 8 a.m., he awoke and pressed the dismiss button on the alarm clock, yawning and covered in bed hair. Hello there my name is Dawn, and I am a 17-year-old high school student, I have a rather fat physique and weigh about 95 kgs and have a height of 180.22 cm, I live alone in an apartment and my parents are diplomats and are currently stationed in another nation, I don't have any siblings. I managed to persuade them to let me live alone, I'm running late, so I hastily put on my school clothes. My school uniform has a dark motif and is rather appealing. I grab my backup and dash to the elevator, where I wait for it to arrive.

I dashed in after the lift doors opened and pressed the ground floor button. I brought up my smartphone while in the lift, the time was 8:30 a.m. I had woken up late today, and school starts at 9 a.m., I also have the assignment to submit, so I can't afford to be late today. I dashed to the building's parking lot, climbed on my bike, and pedaled my way to school. I made it to school on time (my school is around 2 km away and reaching there is tiring), I parked my bicycle. I looked up my smartphone and the time was 8:52 A.M. I proceeded to the main building, which was about 50 meters from the school gates.

On the way, I ran into my friend Zen, who was about the same height as me and was quite fit and athletic, as well as attractive. We both strolled across the narrow hallways to our classes together. "So, did you beat the level?" he inquired. "No, it was too difficult for me," I said. He then went on to describe leveling up (he is a game maniac), and by the time he finished, we were already seated at our desks. Zen sits in the first seat in the first row and I sit in the second last seat in the last row near the window. I submitted my assignment, sat in my seat, and prepared for my lessons.

I was looking forward to breaking time because I needed to go somewhere. I dashed outside the classroom as soon as the bell rang, sprinting down the stairway from the 2nd floor to the ground floor. Later on, I arrived at the storage shed behind the school, there was a piece of paper with an odd set of digits scribbled on it, just as I had expected. I stuffed the piece of paper into my pocket and returned to the school cafeteria for a bite to eat. The cafeteria was rather spacious, as the school was well-known, having been ranked #77 in the yearly assessment of the top schools in Mols (name of my country). On my way to the cafeteria, I stumbled across a beautiful girl who also happened to be my crush. I averted my look from her to avoid any signs on my face. She was also in my class, and her name was Amelia. She was the best student in the entire class, she was well-mannered, calm, and gets along well with others. However, for some reason, I couldn't speak with her much. I returned to my classroom after making sure she wasn't there and waited for the next class to begin. After the lessons had concluded, I was preparing to go back home, when I heard Zen call out to me, "Hey, dude, want to go somewhere fun?" From behind my back, zen called out.

The next thing I knew, I was at an arcade with zen, but we weren't there for the arcade this time but, the small cafe near it, it turned out that my friend had invited some girls to join for a small get-together. There were maybe three girls there, and zen started hitting on them as usual. I felt a little out of place because I couldn't strike up a conversation and was generally regarded as a dull person. I checked my phone and the time was 6 p.m. The sun had begun to drop, I waited for the perfect opportunity to escape out of the location as I was becoming increasingly worried for some reason. I made it out of the cafe, but I could sense the girls' dislike of me, which I was used to. I hopped on my bike and rode home; by the time I got there, it was starting to become dark. I changed into a blue shirt with black trousers and sat down on my bed; my apartment was quite large for one person because it had previously belonged to my parents, so I had plenty of space to live and do many of the things I enjoyed, "aah what a lovely time of dusk huh," I murmured; after some time, I received a message that said dusk is here, time to go; the moment I read the message, I smiled and stood up; "time to get serious now" I said to myself.

I was in a remote region of Beltine (my city) the following minute, standing in front of an old demolished apartment complex. I was pursuing down a man in his 30s dressed in a black coat. "Surrender now or face the penalties," I yelled at him. He walked into a corner alley of the old complex, ignoring my call. I knew I'd made a mistake the instant I stepped into the alleyway because there was an entire gang waiting for me. He told the thugs to murder me. "Why do you want to kill a child?" one of them inquired. He answered, "Just obey my directions or your share will be cut." I was on high alert because this circumstance was not what I had anticipated."How am I going to get out of this situation now?" I wondered. and started regressing "I couldn't take these many guys on my own, and I had to track down that man in the black coat." Suddenly all the thugs who were approaching me fell unconscious, and the man in the black coat was going to flee before he was stopped by a person wearing a mask and a hoodie. The guy in the black coat pulled out a knife, which quickly transformed into a sword. I was still in the corner, unsurprised, but what took me off guard was the fact that the individual in the hoodie looked suspiciously like someone I knew. The person in the coat was easily defeated. I could smell the presence of some weird but familiar gas in the air." As expected of you," the person said in a sarcastic tone. I knew who the person in front of me was and was going to say something when I passed out. When I awoke, it was already morning, so I checked myself and found myself near my bicycle, which was parked about a hundred meters away from the building. I sighed and gazed up at the sky before picking up my phone, which read 6 a.m. "Well, what a lovely sunrise it is," I said as I sat on my bicycle, unconcerned about what had transpired the day before. "Well, I'm not going to lose to you next time," I told myself as I gazed at the sunrise and set off.
