10 days before arrival.

Nata looked out into the vastness of space. In front of her was planet Tara. An empty wasteland filled with ruins of a failed colony. It was made nearly 10000 years before FTL travel was discovered. Even then it contained technology and defenses that could make the most accomplished physicist confused. Every possibility contained within the recognized model of physics at the time was considered. Weapons and defense systems that could stop or start extinction level events were common. Even Kern was too afraid to travel within two lightyears of this place.

Nata sighed. She had already decided to taint this place with life and she expected to feel some remorse. the beautiful arches and curving passages, untouched for millennia stood before her. Her resolve hardened and she turned to her crew.

Nata Pov

I took a breath. The ship had been designed to mimic the day night cycle of earth in hopes that researchers would consider it in their terraforming. It only served to make the crew chronically lazy. I turned on my helmets microphone. " Everyone, please return to the mess hall for a briefing. If you cannot make it, send Captain Nata Alagos an alert."

I sighed as 10 alerts popped up before I was done speaking. Each one showed a crew member in different stages of undress and/or intimacy. I knew that looking through memory logs was unethical but it was important data. If my species was going to be perfect I needed to give it instincts. I began looked deeper into my subordinates memory logs before someone cleared their throat.

My crew stood before me ready for the newest briefing. I looked at each one carefully before speaking. " We have reached low orbit around planet Tara. Each of you needs to connect to the communication network separately and take a drone. Our goal is to give an illusion of multiple landing craft escorting a larger civilian craft. Naturally, I am the captain of the civilian craft but each of you needs to create an alibi."

After that line, chuckles echoed across the room. Then the ship started to shake. I turned on the external camera's. Outside of the ship an old satellite had an energy beam pointed towards us. I watched carefully as it began to glow. I focused our weapons on the the object before jettisoning the organisms. While the virus hadn't been still been on its highest setting, there wasn't time to stop it. I watched calmly as a bright light engulfed the ship.

It was the the escape pods that broke first. They turned to molten slag, coating the halls. Then the hull failed. the ship melted like butter after that.
