And just like that, an additional type of training was added to the one that Yin Long was already used to. The morning was spent training with Bai Xiang, the afternoon was spent with Jiu Meiyu and Lan Yun, the evening was spent with his sisters and Tang Fen, and the night was reserved for his own cultivation and a bit of rest. But when he compared the two types of training, one was clearly far easier than the other.
After the seventh day passed, he still hadn't made any progress with sensing the surrounding space, even with the help of Bai Xiang. But moving without being discovered was much simpler, especially since he was used to being attacked from all sides by Bai Xiang. Once he got into it, he was quickly able to move without Jiu Meiyu discovering him as often as before.
But as the number of times that Jiu Meiyu discovered him decreased, the pain he would experience upon being spotted also increased. On the evening of the seventh day, it had already reached a point where Jiu Meiyu himself attacked whenever he discovered Yin Long.
Yin Long was merely a few steps away from the other end of the room, his breath shallow and quiet and his every step sure and confident. But his eyebrows suddenly furrowed when he sensed the stone floor behind him shift, Jiu Meiyu rising from it and slashing out with a wooden sword.
But with Yin Long used to dodging and deflecting Bai Xiang's attacks, how could he be unable to react to Jiu Meiyu's attacks? He quickly spun his body to the right, a wooden sword appearing in his grasp while he raised his left shoulder and lowered his head. Jiu Meiyu's sword collided with Yin Long's shoulder and made his bones tremble, but Yin Long's own sword reached Jiu Meiyu's abdomen at the same time.
If this was actual combat, Yin Long would have undoubtedly lost his shoulder and even his entire left arm. But Jiu Meiyu would be far worse off, he would probably be on death's door, assuming he hadn't just instantly died from having his belly cut open. Jiu Meiyu obviously knew this, his expression distorting slightly as he looked at the wooden sword touching his stomach.
"You...You learn quickly. Just what sort of training have you actually gone through?"
Yin Long was still only a young child, he shouldn't be someone capable of choosing to trade an injury for a life in a situation like this. Jiu Meiyu couldn't help but wonder, was this the result of Yin Long training with Bai Xiang, was this how he dealt with the assassins that had attacked him? Yin Long didn't comment on what sort of training he had endured over the years, a very faint smile surfacing on his face.
"What's the next step in the training?"
The training should only end when he touched the other wall, but 'killing' Jiu Meiyu should be more than enough to show that it was time to move on to the next step. Jiu Meiyu could only let out a soft sigh and use his thumb to point over his shoulder, at the somewhat surprised Lan Yun that walked out from the room where she and Jiu Meiyu had been previously.
"The next step is a bit simpler but also more dangerous. Lan Yun will head out for a mission soon, we've discovered that one of the beggars roaming the streets is actually a Deshi clan spy. She's going to eliminate him, and I want you to follow her. She was supposed to head out a week ago, but we decided to wait for a bit longer so that you could have a somewhat easy mission as your first. You'll head out tomorrow."
Spies should be eliminated as quickly as possible, but the LAng clan was luckily in a rather quiet period right now where there wasn't much happening. As a result, they had been able to spare the life of this spy for a bit while they waited for Yin Long to finish the first part of the training.
Yin Long nodded his head and then left the underground room, returning to the Lang clan estate. But Tang Fen and Lang Huo were currently in a meeting and Lang Ru was busy with her brewing so Yin Long just ate a quick meal on his own and then retreated to his room. He closed his eyes and focused his senses, continuing his work of trying to sense the surrounding space until the sun rose again.
He finished his training with Bai Xiang and then headed for the brothel, quickly entering the underground room where he met up with Jiu Meiyu and Lan Yun. The two had already prepared, Lan Yun changing into a baggy brown robe to hide her figure. They had also prepared for Yin Long, Lan Yun tossing him a simple black robe and a large straw hat with beads hanging in front of where his face should be.
"Please wear this, Young Master, and take this one for later."
Lan Yun also tossed him a mask that could cover his entire face, one shaped like a crimson glaring demon. He caught the items and quickly wore the black robe over his yellow one, one of his eyebrows rising slightly as he looked at the crimson mask. Jiu Meiyu could guess at his thoughts and had no choice but to shake his head somewhat bitterly.
Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
"We can't help it, we really don't have anything else. The clan used to have four Heaven Altering Masks, items that could fully alter your appearance once worn, but they have long since been stolen due to the clan's decline."
Yin Long didn't doubt Jiu Meiyu's words and donned the mask and straw hat, the beads hanging from the straw hat covering his face so much that you couldn't even tell he was wearing a mask unless you got right up into his face. Lan Yun also donned her own mask, a blue mask shaped like a grinning demon, and then put on a straw hat of her own.
She brought Yin Long over to one of the doors on the right side of the room and used an alternate exit to leave the underground room. They arrived in the basement of a building that seemed to belong to a tailor, leaving the building without anyone casting a second glance at them.
They walked through the city in a quiet manner, avoiding the various spatial transmission stations as they headed for one of the markets. It was early afternoon so the market wasn't too busy yet, Lan Yun pointing at one of the people sitting at the edge of the market.
"There, that man with brown hair and a scar going over his right eye. We'll follow him for a bit and wait for a chance, then we'll strike."
Yin Long quietly nodded his head after observing the beggar, who was so dirty it was bordering in unusual. The two then entered the market and quietly walked around, never moving so far away that they couldn't see the beggar. And in the end, after walking around for nearly five hours, the beggar finally stood up and started moving.
The two quickly left the market and followed him, their steps so quiet that not even the people right by their side could hear them. The beggar moved in a winding manner, moving from small alley to alley, occasionally checking his surroundings in a lazy manner. Lan Yun had Yin Long hide every time the beggar checked his surroundings, making sure that they weren't spotted.
And finally, an hour after leaving the market, the beggar stopped in a remote alley. He placed a finger on his left shoulder, a soft green light appearing beneath his skin as he inserted a bit of Qi into the jade that had been transplanted into his arm. Both Yin Long and Lan Yun's eyes narrowed sharply when they saw this, the beggar was clearly sending out a report.
The beggar closed his eyes as he sent the message, Yin Long springing into action the moment the beggar's eyes were fully closed. He dashed forward at the fastest speed he could muster while still also maintaining his silence, quickly forming his translucent sword. The beggar seemed to detect something as Yin Long approached him, his eyes springing open.
But by the time he noticed something, it was already too late. Yin Long was practically right behind him, his arm shooting forward and piercing through the beggar's neck from behind. The beggar gasped a few times when Yin Long pulled back his weapon, but his fate was already sealed so he collapsed to the ground as a lifeless corpse.
Lan Yun had been somewhat caught off guard by Yin Long's sudden charge, the job was already done by the time she managed to react. She quickly made her way over, glancing at the small hole that had been left in the beggar's throat.
"Good, it was quick and simple. Some people like to end battles in a more extravagant manner, but anything that gives the opponent more time to call for aid is nothing more than a detriment. You made the right choice."
Yin Long's mother had hammered this fact into Lan Yun's mind from a young age, you had to make sure to finish everything quickly once you moved into action. Forget flashy moves and extravagant skills, just focus on doing whatever you can to seal the throat of your target.
Yin Long didn't comment on her statement, placing his hand on the corpse and storing it into his interspatial ring so that they could examine it later on. Lan Yun nodded her head at his actions, her expression softening ever so slightly when she saw that Yin Long was taking the job seriously.
"I probably should have said this sooner, but I'm sorry for your loss. No one should have to bury their parents while still only a mere child, nor should a mere child enter this business."
Unless tragedy struck, it was inevitable that a child would have to bury their parents sooner or later. But to have to do so while no more than a child, rather than a grown man? That was pain on par with a parent having to bury their child. And as strange as it may sound, she found it wrong that a child that was only around 12 or 13 should have to enter the darkness of a clan. But faced with her final words, Yin Long simply returned them directly back to her.
"No child should have to work as a prostitute and then enter this business."
Those were words that Yin Long truly meant, the world of prostitutes and assassins was not one meant for children, it was not meant for people like him and Lan Yun. Lan Yun could only shrug her shoulders in the face of Yin Long's words, turning around and starting the return to report the successful mission.
"Perhaps you are right. It seems like we both have done things that mere children shouldn't, I guess that makes us somewhat similar."
That was inevitable, most people who entered this type of business had a thing or two in common. But Yin Long didn't see the situation in the same manner as her, catching up to her and giving her a sideways glance as they walked.
"Not really. I chose for things to end up like this, did you?"
His question caused Lan Yun's steps to halt for a second, but she didn't give a response to it and quickly started walking again. Silence descended over the two, neither saying a word as they returned to the underground room and inspected the body to learn whatever they could.
