Chapter Two: Fateful Encounter

Chapter Two: Fateful Encounter

The sound of rain falling from the sky onto the ground woke Adam from his sleep. He could feel drops of rain start to fall on top of him, indicating that it just started to rain.

It was still daylight outside, and the forest noises were still in full bloom. It was hard to tell what time of day it was when all he could see from his prone position were the tops of trees.

He groaned as he pushed himself onto his hands and knees. He stared at the metal spike that almost sent him to an early grave with a dull expression. It was a piece of metal from the plane that must have torn off from the crash landing and got sent hurtling into the ground.

He picked himself up, careful not to put any pressure on his left ankle that he injured from the fall. When he was sure of his balance, he tested his ankle injury by putting a little pressure on it. A moderate amount of pain shot through his ankle when he accidentally stumbled, putting all the weight on his injured ankle, but he was sure the fall did not break his ankle, only sprained it. Not that it mattered in the end, a sprained ankle would be detrimental to his chances of survival.

The sky was still light out, so hopefully, that meant it was just going to shower, but this being a rainforest meant the weather could change at a drop of a dime. He needed to find shelter from the rain and a way to collect the water. Just because it was a rainforest did not mean the water you found was safe to drink. Even running water sources could be dangerous if parasites were infesting the water. Thankfully rainforests rained constantly, and it wasn't hard to collect clean drinking water from the rain.

Adam searched around the wreckage for something to use to collect the rainwater. There wasn't much in the way of waste lying around the forest floor where he was, though, just a few odds and ends here.

His foot was slowing his progress, for he had a limp everywhere he walked, and he had to take short breaks every little bit when he couldn't handle the pain anymore.

He found what he was looking for only after a few minutes of searching, thankfully. It was a piece of metal from the plane that had a dent in the middle that could hold water. He went over to a tree that had large leaves and set the makeshift metal bowl underneath the leaf so it could drip water into it. The leaf was already dripping water from the light rain, and it made clanking noises as it hit the metal.

Adam sat against one of the sturdier trees breathing deeply and groaning from the pain he was in. His shoulders were burning with irritation, and his sprained ankle throbbed.

He also could feel a stabbing pain in his abdomen, but it wasn't causing as much pain as the other areas, so he didn't pay it much mind.

After debating what to do next for a few minutes, Adam decided he needed a better idea of his body's damage before making any final decisions.

He carefully removed his shoe, wincing in pain the whole time, and a few times, he almost passed out from the intense pain. After getting the shoe and sock off his foot, he examined his injury. The foot had a black bruise from the ankle all the way down to the center of his foot.

He had no idea how he would get his shoe back on his foot when just taking it off put him through so much pain.

Adam leaned back against the tree in regret. Why didn't he try climbing down the tree instead? He might not have been in such a situation if he had. Not that Adam was in his right mind in that situation with the pain he was in, not to mention the blood flowing to his head; most would be hard-pressed to think straight in that situation.

The pain in Adams's lower abdomen was getting worse. The way he was sitting must have been irritating it. He sighed before pulling off his shirt to inspect the rest of his body. He felt no pain anywhere below his waist except the ankle, so he figured taking off his pants would be unnecessary and painful.

He groaned when he got a good look at his body. There was a cut just below his left bicep four inches long that was deep enough to get infected if not kept clean. His shoulders weren't as bad off as he primarily thought; it just had a bruise running down his chest on both sides with only a small scrape where the straps dug into his skin.

But none of those wounds are what made Adam groan; it was the piece of metal about two inches that were sticking out of his lower right abdomen, about three inches up from his waist. He wasn't sure how deep the metal went in, but the amount of blood he lost was a good indicator of how dire his situation was. He only realized after seeing the wound that his pants were covered in blood all the way down his right leg and were leaking onto the jungle ground staining the green plants red.

"Hahahaha, " Adam couldn't help himself from laughing like a madman. After all that work, and not to mention the pain of getting himself a source of drinking water, he would end up dying from blood loss anyway. His laughter cut through the forest, unnerving the wildlife in the vicinity before he got himself back under control. He looked straight up at the trees above him, enjoying the vibrant green colors you could only find in nature for the last time before closing his eyes.

"Mashka, Mishka." or so he thought, but the sound of a girl's voice next to him stirred him from his daze. He opened his eyes slowly, and the vibrant green forest reentered his vision.

He did not, however, see any sign of the person who spoke.

Was I dreaming, he thought as his eyes slowly shut again. He was too tired to keep them open, and his body felt drained of any energy.

"Mashka, " he heard again, only this time he felt a warm hand touch his shoulder. He struggled to open his eyes again, as his tired mind was shutting down. His vision blurred as he managed to open his eyes a crack, and he could make out a weird blurry shape was right in front of him.

The shape in front of him slowly came into focus until finally, he could make out a young girl staring into his eyes. The girl's dark green eyes were captivating. Adam found himself getting lost in them for several seconds before he managed to get a good look at the rest of her. She was a beautiful young girl that looked to be about a year younger than he was with almond brown skin and black-as-night hair.

The girl before him wasn't beautiful, like a supermodel with perfectly smooth skin and flawless facial features. But beautiful in the way her eyes seemed to be too large for her otherwise standard-shaped head or how her nose was slightly crooked as if she had broken it in her past, and her innocent smile on her lips that seemed natural for the girl all made her unique.

Adam felt a smile form on his lips. at least I can die happy,' he thought before falling unconscious.
