Evelina headed inside the hospital, her red and pink hair fluttering behind her as she moved, she was here to visit a classmate of hers that had hurt himself while practicing judo. Being a fighting sport, even when practiced in a controlled environment there still existed much potential to hurt oneself while practicing, especially if one's mock opponent was known to be especially brutal against their foes. She asked the hospital receptionist for her classmate's location stating his full name while doing so, the receptionist looked through some papers before giving her a room number in return. Evelina thanked the receptionist before heading there, wanting to finally meet her friend once again. But as she walked a streak of black hair in the corner of her eye would catch her attention, although she was just a second too late turning around, Evelina could have sworn that the visage that appeared in her vision for a split second belonged to a girl she had spoken to before.
Not certain if her mind was playing tricks on her or not, the young woman stopped moving towards her friend's room and began following the trail of glimpses that she could catch of the pale girl as the two of them moved through the hospital. After maybe a minute, she saw Alice enter a room on the opposite side of the hospital from where her original goal to visit this building had been. Curious as to who she could be visiting, Evelina decided to be nosy and follow her despite only talking to the girl once before. She followed her into the room and saw four beds, only two of which were occupied. At one point there had been a green curtain separating the two occupied beds but Oda and Jonathan had grown close enough during their stay here to remove it. The room had two windows, being located in one of the hospital's four corners and the same wall that housed the room's entrance was partially occupied with a large bookcase for patients to read. The two inhabitants of this room were fast asleep, the result of a very childish idea from Oda's side, challenging Jonathan to see who could fall asleep the fastest. The older man's stubbornness and resolve to not lose was what had led to Alice and Evelina gaining an opportunity to speak with each other undisturbed.
"I thought you seemed familiar, what a coincidence to run into you here, Alice!" Genuinely happy to run into the smaller girl again, Evelina took a step towards her which caused Alice's body to jolt as she hadn't noticed the girl with mixed-color hair until now. Quickly turning around to face her, an uncertain expression could be seen on Alice, she was not certain whether her presence would bring misfortune on the female as well just like it had done to the two men who were now lying in this room. "Ee-eeh? Evelina?" She found it strange that such a lively woman as Evelina would be in a hospital of all places, she found it even more strange that she would go out of her way to interact with Alice almost like they were friends. The nosy girl stretched her toes and was easily able to see over Alice, getting a good view of the two men who were sleeping behind her, for some reason the younger man with blonde hair seemed familiar to her, although she could not pinpoint from where.
"Are those your friends?" She said in reference to the two people behind the skinny woman, upon hearing that question Alice would lower her head in shame. "No… it's because of me that they are like this." Oda had been hurt for making the mistake of giving Alice a roof over her head and Jonathan had been hurt for trying to protect her, had the two men not wanted to help Alice none of them would have ended up in this situation, it was all her fault. A cursed soul that could do nothing but bring misfortune on others, tears started to swell up into her eyes as she continued to blame herself for the two mens injuries. “It's all my fault!” with those words, the hospital lights flickered as if some unknown force was trying to extinguish them time and time again. This phenomena caught Evelinas interest, it had been almost like a command, the relationship between Alice's words and the strange phenomena affecting the lights in the room, and although her common sense told her that it wasn't possible, Evelina wanted to believe that just for once she would experience something extraordinary in her comfortable but painfully dull life.
She stepped forward, and embraced Alice. Evelina wanted to help this lost girl, it was clear that she was blaming herself for what had happened, although she was far from a saint at the end of the day she just wanted to help people who needed it. “I know that this might sound generic but… whatever happened I don't think it was your fault.” The sniffling Alice looked up towards the brightly haired girl, although her words were not that carefully picked she found them comforting and was just about to speak up and say something when a rustling and a groan could be heard from one of the two beds behind them. Turning around they saw a very much confused Johan that wondered why there were two girls in his hospital room, when his eyes peered at Alice's face he appeared to be slightly less so as he put two and two together. But since he had never seen Evelina before his face was more akin to a question mark when he looked at her.
"You're that girl, the one I tried to protect." He said putting emphasis on the word 'tried' since Jonathan had only bought her a few seconds at best, still he had no idea how Alice managed to survive that encounter. "Yeah… I came to apologize for getting you into danger, I should just have died then and there!" Upon hearing what Alice said Evelina would almost immediately try and rebut her self degrading statement "Alice that isn't…" but before she had a chance to finish her sentence Jonathan interrupted her. "Man, kids today get anxious over every little thing, we are all alive aren't we? No harm done." Although Jonathan was pissed about losing over a week's worth of vacation time due to this incident he still thought that he had done the right thing for once and although his effort hadnt amounted to much they had still clearly amounted to something as displayed by the fact that the black haired girl was still alive and well.
"... I used to fight in Vietnam.” After an awkward quiet the bald man spoke up, although this was a heavy subject to him he thought that this was what the clearly unwell girl needed to hear. “During my time there… a time I regret ever committing to that horrible place, I saw more than enough combat for a lifetime there. I saw the life of innocents being snatched away right before my eyes. To be alive, it's a gift.” He said and although it appeared that he was speaking to both of the girls in the room, in reality his words were solely focused on Alice. He wanted her to realize just how lucky she was to still be alive after all she went through. Alice’s face would blush as he gave his speech, she quickly excused herself and thanked Jonathan once again for saving her once again before leaving the hospital room. Although she had wanted to speak with Oda as well, the guilt weighing down on her had become way too much to bear and as such she was now running out of the hospital building with tears swelling down her eyes.

She rushed out on the crowded street, dozens of faces passing her by, all with different looks varying from confused to worried to just uncaring. Quite some distance behind her, Evelina was doing her best to follow the sprinting girl even as she found it hard to keep up. Despite having won an award for her outstanding running speed, Evelina had neglected her training for quite some time now, although she was still way above average she found it hard to keep up with the black haired girl. As they ran through the city she almost lost track of the one she was following several times but luckily enough she managed to follow her all the way to Pandemonium's small train station. As they entered the building the crowd thinned greatly, no longer slowing either of the two girls down in the slightest and allowing Evelina to get a clear view of the sprinter.
It was obvious that Alice was moving towards the train tracks, passing by several ticket vendors and other small businesses in the process. The two still attracted many worried and confused glances but neither of them cared about that now, Evelina having figured out the reason why Alice was making her way to just this location. As the two began descending the stairs that led down to the platform Evelina started rapidly gaining on Alice as the distance between the two girls quickly declined. Like if the world itself wanted to get rid of the unfortunate soul that plagued it, two headlights could be seen quickly approaching them from the other end of the platform. The child born under the sign of the black star saw her chance to escape the life of misfortune that she had suffered through, a way to prevent the misfortune she would inevitably bring to the people around here once and forever, and jumped.
Evelina, acting more on instinct than thought at this point, reached out for Alice who now was so close that she could almost grasp her pale hand from where she was. But, she had done a fatal miscalculation as she put way too much force into the action and ended up falling off the platform after Alice as the trains driver desperately tried to hit the brakes to no avail. The train continued forwards for several seconds at a high speed before finally slowing down and eventually hitting a complete stop on the other end of the platform. Dozens of curious onlookers had gathered around the spot where they had seen two girls with clashing hair colors fall down before the vehicle of transportation that had likely served as their executioner.
From the day she was born, there was little that Evelina did not excel at. She was multi-talented and whatever subject happened to catch her eye she would soon exceed her peers in. In simple terms, she was a natural born genius that stood miles above the people around her in terms of pure talent. Still, when everything was so easy there was little reward for actually exerting oneself, Evelinas childhood was one filled with boredom. Although she was showered in praise not only from the adults around her, but also with admiration from the children that she grew up with, Evelina felt like there ought to be something more to this existence. Escaping into the world of manga, she found out about the idea of magical girls, it became her way to dream away from the good yet ordinary life she lived. For ever since she was a child, there had been a thought, an idea nagging at the back of Evelians mind, no matter how talented or great she was would it ever matter if she was never given the opportunity to prove herself?
Her father was an American businessman while her mother was a Japanese doctor. From his days of youth her dad had a collection of superhero comics that she would read from time to time. He wasn't obsessed with keeping them in prime condition or anything in that manner and as such Evelina was allowed to touch them on her own from a young age, although she still preferred the magical-girl type of manga over American comic books she found the overlapping concepts between the two to be interesting. Specifically, the idea of fighting for something greater than oneself was almost glued to her mind at times, to do the right thing even if it meant sacrificing one's own life. But as she grew older the lofty dreams and ideals that she had carried with her from her childhood started to fall one after another, the cruel yet boring world of adults was hastily approaching her with every day that passed and Evelina knew that she as well would lose her spark once she became older. That was simply the way of the world.
She looked around, up towards the supposed pillars of greatness that one could aspire for in this world, but even the most admired idols and desired doctors were simply mechanically carrying out the tasks given to them for economical exchange, no matter how hard she looked Evelina could not find any trace of genuine greatness within this world. Yet, some childish part of her soul wanted to keep clinging to the ideals she carried with her from her childhood, the ideas of someone great who made the world a better place trough genuine actions no matter how slight or great, stupid or smart, someone like a magical girls that she had read so much in her mangas. In that moment, when she leapt out from the platform to save Alice, Evelina felt something genuine, a true emotion.
The world around her moved in slow motion, the approaching train, the confused yet intrigued bystanders on the platform, the two white doves that they had scared into the air with their running and the clock on the station's wall was all moving so slow that they might as well have been frozen in time. Evelina looked down, towards Alice who was facing the ground. The long black hair was blocking her vision, but from beneath it she could see the train tracks below them. Using her full might to reach out towards Alice, Evelina slowly saw her hand move towards the girl but just when she thought that she would be able to reach her something strange happened. The distance between two ballasts increased, it was a subtle change at first but after a few moments in the world of creeping time the distance between the two cement plates had increased to the point where a full grown man could fit between them.
A hole, a hole had been created by some unseen force right before Evelinas eyes. The two girls tumbled right into it and an instant later they could feel the heavy vibrations of the earth shaking around them as the train above rushed past mere decimeters above their heads. As the brakes were hit a terrible screeching would fill the station for several seconds until only silence remained for the people on the platform. But, for Evelina and Alice who lay underneath and could only see the world above through glimpses of light that managed to trickle down beneath, they could clearly hear each other's heavy breathing.
After what felt like hours but in truth was mere minutes, Evelina gathered the courage to begin crawling out of the hole that had saved them and towards a river of light that signaled an opening that allowed the two to get back up. Although Alice wanted to just melt into the ground and disappear, as she saw Evelina slowly but surely move away from her the fear of being left all alone hit her and she also began moving towards the light. After another minute or two the two girls were standing on the platform facing a very confused, yet relieved crowd of onlookers. Two ambulance workers had given them help to get out from the tracks and onto the platform, and after asking if anyone else was under there they expressed just how miraculously it was for the two of them to survive without as much as a scratch.
Not only was ambulance and medical workers here, firemen and policemen were here as well, the ambulance personnel asked a few question and after getting a good grasp on what had happened they decided that the suicidal girl would have to go back to the hospital for psychological evaluation for the next few days while Evelina was free to do what she wanted. Although she wanted to go with Alice and make sure she was alright the medical personnel informed her that only family members were allowed to ride in the ambulance with a patient due to security concerns and she would have to come to the hospital herself if she wanted to visit Alice. Begrudgingly, Evelina accepted and made her way out of the train station.
