Chapter 1, Rebirth and The Slave

The old lady accepted Jaiyno's hand as she stood up.

She spoke in a voice and expression that verged on tears.

"Thank you, Jaiyno. Your help means more than you will ever know."

Jaiyno smiled at the old lady who appeared so thankful. Her expression, so filled to the brim with thankfulness and joy was something that made him smile too.

"Don't worry about it. I want to help, so please, just tell me what I need to do."

After a moment of gathering herself, she spoke to Jaiyno in a wobbly tone, obviously still shaken a bit.

"The world I'm sending you is one you might be familiar with, you read fantasy novels. don't you?"

Jaiyno blinked in surprise before responding. Despite the dark atmosphere, he became a little hopeful. After all, who wouldn't want to visit a fantasy world?

"Fantasy novels? You mean the world I'm going to has dragons and stuff like that?"

The old lady nodded, however, she quickly offered advice that dimmed Jaiyno's hopes a bit.

"Yes yes, but please do not get your hopes up. Magic, dragons, numerous races . . . all these things only add to the chaos of this world. Species racism is abundant . . . dragons and monsters scar the land with their devastating might . . . and magic is the worst of all. Magic gives everyone the chance at unspeakable power. Many evil men in that world wipe entire cities from existence . . . these things, although they made spark wonder in you, ultimately make that world a darker place than need be. Please, do not go into this world with such a naive mindset, Jaiyno."

Jaiyno felt sad at first but accepted this after a moment. All her points made sense. Magic may be wonderous and amazing, however, it seemed to also have a dark side to it. Jaiyno shivered at the thought of someone like Hitler being able to wipe cities off the planet, all by himself.

"I understand."

The old lady patted Jaiyno on the shoulder.

"I know it is a disappointment for you, but I'm glad you mature enough to realize how deadly these things can be. This is exactly why I'm trusting you with my power because you understand that power in the wrong hands can cause enormous damage."

Jaiyno looked up at her with a curious expression.

"Your power? What do you mean?"

The old lady drew a circle in the air, a completely perfect circle. It released a golden light, covering Jaiyno's body in a warm, fuzzy feeling. Jaiyno sighed in relief involuntarily. That light made him feel like he had just come in from a cold snow day into a warm fireplace.

"This is my Divine Blessing. This circle allows me to transmute my power, directly to you without any delay. Once I bestow this symbol onto your body, you will have full access to my power and abilities, however, I offer you a word of caution. My godly power will put great strain on your soul. If you use too much of my power, your body will explode, and your soul will shatter . . . I'm not confident in putting it back together."

Jaiyno nodded without hesitation, even after such a deadly warning.

"Alright . . . So start with only a small amount of your power, and then work my way up?"

The old lady smiled at Jaiyno. He had always been one to pick up things quickly.

"Good, you understand."

Jaiyno took a step forward, eager to begin.

"I'm ready."

She laughed, joyful at his anxious feelings to begin, but held up three fingers.

"First, you must swear to me three oaths."

Jaiyno nodded, ready to begin. The old lady began to speak, however, Jaiyno noticed that space again him began to feel heavy like gravity had suddenly increased.

"Do you, Jaiyno Wentswell, swear to never kill, even if you yourself will die?"

"I do."

Jaiyno fell down to one knee as a burning sensation began to grow on his chest. The old ladies body began to release golden light.

"Do you, Jaiyno Wentswell, swear to never lie in any way?"

"I do."

Jaiyno began to see golden light up the area around him, appearing from his chest and piercing through his shirt. The old lady's voice no longer seemed to come from her, but rather, it felt like she was directly speaking to Jaiyno's soul itself.

"Do you, Jaiyno Wentswell, swear to use your power to save others, protect the innocent, and uphold my values of Good, and justice?"

"I do."

Jaiyno looked down at his chest and saw a perfect circle drawn unto his body. He returned his eyes upwards, and felt his eyes widen, as instead of an old lady, he saw a ball of golden light. Jaiyno realized that his mortal eyes had just been showing him his best interpretation of god, a gentle and caring lady. In truth, this god had no real body, but rather is only a soul. The ball of golden light, previously a gentle old lady, spoke to Jaiyno one last time.

"Whenever you need strength, call out to me. I will answer."

Then, The world went dark once more. The sensation of falling assaulted the blind Jaiyno, however after a minute, he opened his eyes.

----------------------------------------

Before Jaiyno opened his eyes, he felt himself resting back down on a soft bed of grass. The wind slowly blew by, tickling Jaiyno's nose as his hair fell into his face. Jaiyno opened his eyes and beheld the blue sky, dotted with clouds blowing by.

It's not that bad.

As Jaiyo rose to a standing position, he got a full view of his surroundings. This world was gorgeous, obviously untouched by mankind. He was standing at the top of a tall hill, or small mountain. From this point, he could see the rolling hills of pure green grass, spotted with various trees and bushes. The sun shone down, making everything almost shiny, in a weird way. The intense sunlight may have made it hot, but the slight breeze took any heat away from him, making it feel spectacular.

Roads, cut down trees, beaten grass . . . etc

Jaiyno started walking down the hill due west, heading away from the sun as it slowly approached the horizon behind him. As he walked, he thought about all the signs of intelligent life, so that he could follow them to a settlement of some kind. In order to help people, he had to first find them.

Wait, how am I going to help them exactly?

Jaiyno knew he wanted to help people, but he lacked knowledge of the exact problem they faced. Many people in this world suffered from various things, he knew that from his visions, however, he would not know what specif problems a settlement had, and thus; he could not plan for whatever the settlement would need. To solve this problem, he simply brainstormed multiple problems and then solved them in his head, taking random guesses on what problems a settlement could have.

Monster infestation . . . I'll get rid of them.

Starvation . . plant crops, teach them how to fish, hunt food?

A corrupt ruler . . . try to talk to him, but if he refuses to make things better, I remove him from power.

As Jaiyno walked for hours, he went through dozens of situations, more trying to entertain himself than anything else. Some more time passed, and the amount of this he thought about surpassed his ability to remember. Jaiyno sighed.

Screw it . . . I'll figure out the problem when I get there.

As Jaiyno walked, he found another thing to think about to replace the situation thinking.

I wonder what the people of this world are like? Medevil times used to be cruel, so I imagine that I won't be seeing any cars or technology.

Jaiyno knew it was a medieval era currently in this world since the visions of war he had seen were of swords and shields. The Medieval era was quite a broad one, spanning a thousand years or so. Consequently, Jaiyno did not have an exact guess as to what kind of technology they had, but he at least had a clue to start on.

Actually, magic exists in this world, so maybe they could create some kind of car with that?

Jaiyno imagined floating old-timey carriages, simply gliding to where they needed to be without horses. He dived even deeper into his imagination, thinking of horses galloping on air, or floating island kingdoms . . . this train of thought entertained him for many hours, however, he stopped upon realizing something.

It's getting darker, night is falling already?

Slowly at first, the world began to darken but got quicker and quicker as the sun approached, edged on, and then completely passed beyond the horizon. After a couple of hours of walking, darkness had taken hold, quick as that. Jaiyno was a little bit shocked but didn't panic.

Without any real knowledge of survival skills, Jaiyno settled for a comfy spot in a high tree, as being on the floor was dangerous. He could obviously fall off the tree, but to solve this he tied his waist to a branch to keep himself from falling off.

Little did poor Jaiyno realize, he would receive quite a nasty surprise when he woke up.

----------------------------------------

Next to the coast, a river flowed out into the sea. If one follows this river, about 80 miles up the river, you find the biggest trading port in the entire Athymnosian Empire, Bylis. Many merchants would sing at the mention of this city, as it was a gathering place for all kinds of business, even the dark kind.

For Amy Stewart, the name Bylis brings nothing but dread in her heart. She did not get to partake in the bustling atmosphere, or stalls selling food, or even walk around unchained. Amy gazed at the surroundings with jealousy in her eyes. Such luxuries could never be hers because . . .

The crack of a whip rang out, breaking the skin on Amy's back.

"Get moving you, damn human! Move!"

Tears tugged at her eyes, but she continued forwards.

Amy could never enjoy these luxuries because she was a slave.

Yes, a slave. A servant to the Elves, a species of sub-humans that viewed themselves as superior to humans.

Damn it!

Just the thought of them made Amy frustrated. Frustrated enough that the pain of the whip faded, replaced by a sense of grim determination.

The more lashings she got, the more that feeling grew.

Every time she saw another slave get beaten, that feeling grew.

Every time the Elves screamed at them to move with spittle flying from their mouths, that feeling grew.

Amy's heartbeat hard, not because she was tired, or because of the pain from the lashing, it was none of those. Her heartbeat increased in speed and intensity because she was ready.

She was ready to fight back, however, she couldn't as she walked along, she felt the chains around her wrists, ankles, and neck chafe her skin, as well as lock her mana away.

If only I could wield my mana . . . I would be able to protect everyone

Every time she saw a fellow slave fall to the ground in pain, her heart pounded. Beneath the spells on her chains that locked her power, her mana fluctuated violently, responding to her emotions in full. If not for her restraints, the air would be wavering and the ground would be shaking from her might.

Amy Stewart was a mighty warrior of humankind, hailing from the kingdom of Briterland, leader of the Leiverian Union. The same Leiverian Union stands alone against the unstoppable march of the Athymnosian Empire.

And she was ready. All she needed was an oppertunity.

Please, someone . . . help me.

----------------------------------------

As Jaiyno slept, the golden circle drawn on his chest began to glow. The divine power of Jaiyno's god responded to her plea. After only a moment, Jaiyno opened his eyes.

Golden beams pierced out from the treetops, deep into the night sky. For the first time, Jaiyno had awoken his Divine Blessing, or as this world would soon call him in the years to come . . .

Jaiyno 'Golden Eyed Hero' Wentsworth had awoken.
