Layne’s Point of View
The drawing room was huge, it was glamorously decorated too. I saw Mother sitting in one of the four couches that was inside, but she was also with the green-eyed oddball. A huge portrait of him was hanging just beneath the fireplace. Those pensive eyes, just like mine and Mother’s.
So, he is “Lord Brevont.”
Both of them noticed my presence. “Layne, you look gorgeous.” Mother greeted warmly. After being forced to come here and her daughter being clueless about everything, here she is enjoying tea with this bastard. I sent a piercing gaze to him before sitting beside Mother.
“Layne, have some tea. I am glad that you seemed fine. You were asleep for two days.” she poured some into a tea cup and then handed it over. Something serious did happen to me. I grabbed the cup and took a sip. It’s good. My heart grew tense in anticipation of what truth will be revealed.
As an impatient person, “Let’s cut to the chase Mother.” I said after I took the second sip of tea. Mother then looked at me with great seriousness and then glanced at the green-eyed— I mean, Lord Brevont.
“Well, I don’t know where to start.” she sighed deeply. “Let me start by introducing the man who brought us here. He is my brother, Count Miern Brevont.” She continued, “My name, on the other hand, is not Montessa Miroff but Montes Brevont.”
I can't sense the guilt from her eyes. The guilt lying to me, for years. “We are no farmers Layne, the blood that is flowing down your veins is of nobility. I’ve hid you for years, concealed your existence to protect you.” I was too stunned to speak. All this shocking information, it’s hard to process.
This lady right here who knew nothing of etiquette and proper manners, is a noble?!

What a twist, tell me I am dreaming.
“Was Father being dead a lie too?” while asking, Mother didn’t say a word. I didn’t want my emotions to get ahead of me and so I remained composed and I asked further. “Is Lynos a made-up name too? Tell me, Mother! You said you would tell me everything—”
“Your Father’s alive,” Uncle said from the sideline which made both Mother and I look towards him. So, the grave was fake. I have been celebrating birthdays on an empty grave. This situation is amusing, I have been mourning for someone who is very much alive.
“Brother!” Mother shouted.
“Why? She deserves to know the truth sister.” he then chuckled. Yes Mother, I deserve the truth. He continued, “That’s why I was able to convince your Mother to come here because he is looking for both of you.”
What was that just now?
Father is looking for us.
A sudden gush of wind swiveled around out of nowhere. It did not come from outside because the windows were closed.
Could this be…
The wind concentrates around Mother and Uncle. This feels like the anonymous force that rattled our house. It was from both of them! I was astonished but scared at the same time. The summoned wind swirled around both of them.
At that moment, I looked at my hands thinking whether I had magic too. Because if mother and uncle have it, don’t I inherit it too? The wind grew stronger and stronger that even I couldn’t look at them without covering my eyes. It’s too strong.
“Uncle! Mother! Calm down! You don’t need to fight each other!” shouting with all my lungs out. The striking winds vanished in a blink.
“Awww. He called me uncle.” He said out of the blue while his hands were crunched over his face. Imagine a grown adult acting cute, that’s what Uncle looks like right now.
“Disgusting.” Mother said and I agree.
It took a couple of minutes more for them to settle. “Layne, I will now tell you everything with no pauses or hesitation. I am just weighing your reaction because it’s a complicated matter that’s been unspoken all these years… so… are you ready?” Mother said with a worried face. To assure her, I looked at her without batting an eye.
“I am.”
