Prologue- Not all stories have happy endings

Amidst the crude and desolate landscape stood a tall black castle. Tall walls surrounded the majestic black castle with monsters roaming about, on guard. One of the tall tower holds the

bedroom of the Grand Overlord.

The room was dark except for a couple of floating crystal that glowed a violet color. The room

was lavishly designed from the carpet to the bed. The bed itself was gigantic and looked to be

able to hold 5-6 people. On the bed were four naked women that were covered in the sheets

and blankets.

In the middle was one person, the overlord himself. His eye opened and he assess the area

around him to find the source that awoken him.

“What is it that you need Elsy?”

The overlord spoke into the empty room. For a moment no one answered until shadows

started to gather in the center of the room. Soon a figure could be made out who knelt right

in front of the bed.

“My humblest apology for awakening from your slumber Overlord Azuel.”

The women that knelt with her head low was one the loyal subjects under the Overlord. Her clothes, or lack of it consisted up of black cloth that covered her breast with some dangling between her legs and arms. Her skin was a greyish tone that resembled a corpse more than anything. The only thing visible on her face were her eyes which had no pupils and a faded grey color. These traits were common among Nightwalkers, demons who have the ability to transverse using shadows.

The overlord got out of bed and walked toward the table before taking a seat and continuing

on.

“It’s all right. Truth be told I wasn’t exactly all that tired.”

“Were the women not to your liking?” A little bit of fear could be heard when she replied

back. Azuel quickly noticed it and demised it.

“It’s no big issue. Now regarding the matter of why you’re here. You wouldn’t be here for no

good reason.” The overlord grabbed a cup and started to make some tea as Elsy talked.

“Yes! I have received word that the human army has amass themselves, currently they are

heading in this direction.”

Azuel uninteresting looked at Elsy before bring his attention back to his cup of tea. He took a

small sip and waited. “I see, so they finally decided to not run away for once. But I don’t see

why you would need to relay this to me personally. Simply inform Kubal or Trusawr and have

the army on standby.”

“You are absolutely correct. I would never dream of doing something that would waste your

time my master. However I also received words that this time the army has a plan, apparently

they know how to cast one of the lost ark magic.”

Azuel was about to take another sip but stopped midway and looked back at Elsy with

surprised in his eye.

“Lost ark? Are you sure of this?” Elsy nodded in response to her master question. “Yes I heard

this from very reliable sources.” Azuel put down the cup and simply sat there pondering.

“Lost ark, huh? That would explain why they are now attacking with everything that they

have. It would seem that they have a secret weapon.” Azuel let out a small soft chuckle that

surprised Elsy.

“Yes. The army will be here within the hour. I’ll inform everyone and have them stop--.”

“There is no need for that.” Azuel cut her off and walked towards the door way. Elsy, baffled

simply stayed there before talking again.

“I’ll be the only one who will face the army. The rest will serve as backup should I need it or

when the human tried to run.”

“But…But we have no idea what kind of magic it will be. It can be something that we never

seen before and it --.”

“Are you doubting my strength Elsy?” Once again Azuel cut her off. This time he talked in a

low tone that made Elsy shudder controllably. A dark aura was flowing out of his body causing

her to lower her head even further.

“Of…Of course not. I…I would never do such a thing. It’s just that we face an unknown

situation, anything could happen.”

Once again fear could be heard from her. Not only fear from the mysterious magic but from

the possibility of her master being harm. Azuel took a deep breath and suppressed his aura.

He walked toward Elsy who was still kneeling with her head hung low.

“Elsy, look at me.” He spoke directly towards her and after a couple of seconds Elsy finally

looked up.

“You should know more than anyone just what kind of person I am. I didn’t simply become

Overlord because I was powerful now did I? So let me ask you this, do you trust me?”

Elsy was in a daze as she thought that she was about to be punished. She quickly snapped out

of it. “Of course I trust you! Please forgive my rudeness.”

Azuel let out a small chuckle as he patted her shoulder. “That’s good. Now then we should

prepare for our guests arrival. Inform the others, I’ll be getting dress to personally welcome

our guest.

…………………

An hour has passed and all was silent. Monster filled the walls, looking out into the horizon

for the incoming army. Azuel stood at the beginning of the entrance to the wall and to the

castle.

He stood at stood tall and proud, waiting. He wore a majestic outfit that fitted the image of

an Overlord. A black and purple tunic with golden designs on the chest and cape. To an

outside viewer, Azuel was very handsome. From his physic and body to his face and features.

He would look like a fantasy prince if it weren’t for the small black horns that curved

backwards and blood red pupil.

Azuel stood there with his hand cross while waiting. Time slowly passed and the thought of

the army slowly faded until a roaring noise could be heard, coming in their direction. Soon

the two thousand human army arrived.

Some were on horseback while most were standing on their feet. In the front were the more

well equip solider. And leading them all was a women draped in a long white cloth that

resemble that of a priest garb. She also held a long scepter with a translucent blue orb at the

top.

“It’s nice to see you again, High Vicar Alicia.” Azuel is a sarcastic manner that made Alicia

scowl in response. “This is the end, today we rid the world of your evil and tyranny!”

She shouted as long as she could and the army behind her cheered in response. Azuel shook

his head disappointedly before letting out a heavy sigh. “Evil? The word you humans

associate with us demons. It makes me shake my head in disgust. You honestly believe that

you humans are the destined one, a benevolent species, while we demons are nothing but

savages and monster. This isn’t some child’s fairy tale, face it you’ve already lost. All you’re

doing now is wasting your breath.”

Alicia didn’t back down and retaliated. “We will never surrender! So long as there is hope we’ll always fight for what we believe in!” Once more they cheered but Azuel quickly cut them off.

“Fight for what you believe in?” Azuel let out a gigantic laugh in response, mocking her remark. “You mean corruption and false valor? We demons have kept to ourselves, true we are known for being violent, but only amongst ourselves. It wasn’t until you humans got greedy and explore our land for your benefits. Soon we were label as monsters and feared by you humans. Some were hunted because they posted a threat. Others were hunted for game, but most were taken to be used however you humans see fit. monsters, you exploit your own people so long as it suits your needs. Even your so called holy

church is nothing more than a shame.”

Alicia this time couldn’t take it anymore. “Enough! I will not stand here and take this. Attack!

This ends today!” She pointed her scepter towards Azuel and they all charged at him.

“You’re right, this ends today.” He swung his hand horizontally and within less than a second,

killed around half of the approaching army.

Those alive didn’t fully register what had just happened until blood and body parts of their

comrades fell on them. But they didn’t waver, they continued their charge knowing that they

could very well die.

They used range magic attack to keep Azuel occupied to close the distance. Hundreds on

magic circle appeared, firing a barrage of spells at Azuel. They all landed on him and all

around him. Smoke and debris spread out, covering the surrounding area.

Azuel flew out of the smoke and into the air with seemly no damage whatsoever, aside from

some dirt on his clothes. The army turned their attention upward and continued to fire off

spells. Black mana circle appeared around him and pure black spire shot out.

Each spire split apart and continued to do so as they shot towards the army. Soon hundreds on black spires piece their bodies. Within seconds the army was cut down to about four

hundred able humans.

Azuel slowly floated down and walked towards the fragmented army. Alicia could be seen on

her knees, trying to rally up the remaining forces.

“I would suggest you use the lost ark spell before I completely destroy all of you.” Alicia was

taken back by what Azuel had just said to her, but she quickly snapped out of it. “All of you please protect me until I finish the spell.”

The remaining force surrounded her and she started to chant. Azuel casually walked up to

them before stopping. He stood there watching, pondering on what might happen. ‘Wonder

what kind of spell she’ll cast? There will be no doubt that it will be strong, so I should take some pre-caution.’

Multiple mana circle appeared and encased him a strange light before disappearing. Just as

he finished a bright light appeared and grew in intensity. Even Azuel couldn’t take the

intensity and had to cover his eyes.

Soon the light dimmed and a figure could be seen next to Alicia. A women clad in a brilliant

golden armor. Just like her armor, she was extremely beautiful, who radiate power. A corset

could be seen on her head with her long blonde hair. A sword could be made out on its

scabbard.

She looked around confusedly and eventually looked at Alicia who was kneeling. “Oh mighty

hero, please lend us your strength to defeat our greatest enemy.”

The hero looked back up and towards Azuel. At first she was confused but quickly asserted the

surrounding situation. “I see. Very well I’ll lend my strength to defeat this monster!”

She unsheathe her sword and pointed towards Azuel before charging straight at him. A pair

of wings materialize from her back as she flew straight at Azuel, who was still in a small daze.

The hero closed the distance almost instantly.

Azuel dodged to the side while she fly up and back down for an aerial attack. Azuel started to

fire of spells at the hero who easily dodged all of it. He infused his hand with mana and

countered her downward sword swing.

Azuel was knocked back while the hero regained her footing. He looked down at his hand

which was shaking from the hit and bleeding a little bit. ‘She’s strong, to think she would be

able to injure me even with those defensive spell.’

Once again this thoughts were interrupted when the hero charged at him once more. Azuel

was more prepare this time and a row of mana circle appeared alongside her. Black spires

shot out, trying to hit her but to no avail. Soon she was a couple of centimeter from his face

but before she could swing Azuel sprang his plan into action.

A gigantic mana circle appeared on the floor and fire up a wave of darkness that swallowed

her. But once again she was only slightly affected by his attack. She grabbed her sword and

pierces Azuel body.

“Feel the power of the light!” The sword soon started to glow a powerful light. It channeled

through the sword and finally hitting Azuel body. A bright explosion appeared engulfing the

hero and Azuel. It lasted a couple of seconds before dimming down and smoke floating

around.

The smoke began to clear and the hero could be seen victorious. Cheers could be heard from

the humans but it didn’t last for long. “That was close, if I hadn’t cast those defensive spell, I

might have actually gotten really hurt.”

All the cheering cease and all attention was back to the hero. Soon the smoke fully disappear

to show Azuel with the sword still stuck in his body. Even the hero was surprise at the turn of

event but quickly recovered. She hastily pulled back her sword and jumped back to gain some

distance, but this time Azuel wouldn’t let her.

Just as her foot touch the ground, Azuel was right behind her. She quickly turned around,

swing her sword but Azuel quickly caught the hilt of it, bring it to a full stop. “Not this time.”

Mana circles formed all around Azuel and the hero, totaling twenty one. All at once they

fired, creating a large explosion that encompass both Azuel and the hero. The smoke cleared

and this time Azuel was the one standing while the hero was on the floor.

However Azuel didn’t get off without a scratch. He fell to one knee and looked at his wound

which blood was flowing from. “To think that I would take that much damage, it’s not like me

to get carless.”

Azuel got back up and looked at the remaining army. Most the soldiers were on their knees

with blank expression, some were crying while others praying. “Don’t give up!” A single voice

rang amount amongst them, bring them back to reality, it was Alicia.

“It’s not over yet! Look! The hero gravely wounded the overlord, we can still take hi--.” Alicia

stopped when a knife was pressed against her throat. Elsy materialized behind Alicia, along

with other nightwalkers that surrounded the remaining humans.

Azuel slowly walked over as Elsy pinned Alicia to the ground. “Give me the word and I’ll

present her head to you master.”

Azuel looked down before giving Elsy her order. “No. She already knows that there’s no hope.

Besides I have plans for her.”

“As you command.” Elsy sheaths her weapon before standing her up. “You evil…monster! I’m

not going to let you do as you plea--.”

Azuel cuts her off by bring up his hand and casting a sleep spell on her. Elsy caught her as

Alicia slumped over. “What about the remaining human master?”

“They will be spared as well.” Azuel quickly responded to dismiss the question. “What about

the hero?” Elsy brought her attention to the unconscious hero.

“Leave her to me. I will handle her personally."
