Volume 1: Prologue

In the beginning, there was nothing. Only the Void, a vast sea of nothingness that causes all things to degrade and atrophy, exists here.

Until one day a bright white light appeared in the sea of nothingness. It shone so bright that it was impossible to determine exactly what it was. This light became known as the well of creation. A shining liquid later known as Aether began to flow in a direction which became 'down'. The liquid Aether solidified into a vast white floating island known as Arcadia with a great lake known as Okeanos that was soon filled with more liquid Aether. From Okeanos, rivers carried the Aether to the Void where it continued to flow.

Plants started growing on the white earth on the land of Arcadia, radiating out from the lake of Okeanos. The first was pure white grass, then there were white bushes and shrubs, then white trees and more and more variety of every plant imaginable. Then animals started emerging from the Aether, small at first but getting bigger as more emerged, all a glowing pure white. Finally, from the Aether, people emerged.

Year 0

I woke up and opened my eyes in a panic but all I saw was an extremely bright whiteness. I was submerged in a liquid of some kind and was afraid I would drown. But after a few moments I realised that I was fine. It wasn't that I could breath the liquid, it's that breathing seemed unnecessary for me.

'Have I ever needed to breath?' No matter how much I thought about that question I can't seem to get an answer. 'For now I should focus on getting out of this.'

I swam to the surface and went the nearest shore to climb out of the liquid. once I was standing I took in my suroundings and found what I saw really strange. There was the pure white shining lake that I just emerged from as well as rivers which flowed from it. Not too far away from where I was, was a fast forest of white plants and the ocasional white animal. There seemed to a dense purple mist covering everything but i could see through it without a problem. Past the mist high in the sky was a pure and endless darkness. Above the lake floated a briliant white light from which the glowing liquid fell into the lake.

'Where am I?'

There was a sudden disturbance from the lake and another person emerged, gasping for air. They were pure white just like the plant and animals. They swam to shore and climbed out of the lake before noticing me.

"Uhm, hello?" He said, looking confused.

"Hello to you too," I replied "Do you know where we are?"

"No, I just woke in that lake in that liquid and swam to the surface for air." The stranger said.

He went to the surface for air?

"Do you need air?" I asked.

"Of cour-" He said before looking uncertain "At least I think I do? Maybe not?"

He's doesn't seem to know whether or not he needs to breath. Maybe he is like me and for some felt the to breath without actually needing it?

"What is your name, miss?" He asked.

"Hmm, my name?" It took me a moment to remember but I got it in the end "It's Eva and yours?"

It's weird, I can't remember someone ever calling me that yet somehow I know that it's my name. Actually, now that I think about it, I can't remember anything.

"My name is Mihail." He answered.

Year 16

After Mihail and I introduced ourselves to each other several others emerged from the lake and we began talking with each one. None of seemed to remember how we ended up in the lake. In fact, nobody seemed to be able to remember anything aside for their names.

We agreed to work together since we were the only people and started exploring. We out that on some kind of white island and decided to call it Arcadia. There was an endless darkness surrounding it decided to call it the Void. The lake from which we emerged was named Okeanos. The decision to name them this was unanimous, in fact, we all came up the same names for them. As if they already had names and we are simply remembering them.

We started living near Okeanos and began building shelter as well as other things. We soon found that we didn't need to need to eat, drink or sleep. Why did we think we needed to do those things? How did we know what those things were?

After a while of building everything we need and don't need and exploring every nook and cranny of Arcadia, we grew terribly bored.

"Eva, I'm bored" Mihail said.

"I know, you've said that to me every day for the last 3 years." I replied.

"Can't you do something about it?" he said.

"Like what Mihail?" I asked impatiently.

Before Mihail could reply with some nonsensical sentence, there was shout from the distance.

"Hey everyone, come look!" The excited voice of someone came.

Since we didn't have anything better to do and they sounded excited we went to the voice. When we followed the voice of the voice we arrived at Okeanos. There stood Silas, another of us who emerged from the lake. He held up his hands and a meter away from it, a sphere of Aether was floating in mid air.

"Wow Silas, how are you doing that?" Another citizen of Arcadia asked.

"No idea, I simply thought about it and it happened!" Silas answered.

"Wow cool, I can do it too!" A different Arcadian said.

One by one everyone gathered at the tried and succeeded in manipulating the Aether. When I tried it, it felt strangely easy and natural, as if that is how it is supposed to work.

"This is cool and all, but what can we do with this?" I asked.

I heard murmurs calling me a buzzkill, but really? Are so bored that moving a bit of Aether with our thoughts is the most exciting thing we can do? ...I suppose that sounds cooler then I thought but still! After the initial novelty of moving something with only your mind it quikly becomes boring once more.

"woah, look at this!" Mihail screamed in excitement.

The blob of Aether in his hand flattened and on top the purple mist, called Mana, starts coalescing into miniature planets.

Year 112

After Silas' and Mihail's discovery of Aether manipilation things became alot more interesting. It turns out that Aether generates Mana which is why there so much of it in the air because everything here is made out of the stuff. Mana happens to be supper malleable and can be changed into numerous ways and turned into almost anything. from a ping pong ball to a blackhole it can be changed into it all and unlike things made from Aether, it's not all white and can be any color. how we hadn't found this out before we discovered Aether manipulation I don't know.

We've expirementing with Aether manipilation to create Galaxies because we're bored and figured it could be fun seeing mortals do mortal things. We've taken to calling the flat Aether above which Mana consentrates a 'Foundation'. A Foundation can made into a sort hollow ball to protect the insides from the degrading effects of the void. A foundation can be encoded with 'Commandments' such as what the speed of light is and that nothing else should be able to go faster then it. Commandments should not be confused with the Laws of reality which are part of the fabric of reality and we have no control over. Such as that time travel can't happen, what has happened cannot be changed.

Using Mana to create things is good and all but making something living is a bit harder. for something to grow, alocate resources and hardest of all make decisions and think, it requires something more then what mana can provide. So made the bodies out of Mana and used Aether to make a 'Soul' to do all the hard parts. The foundation is set up with Commandments to turn Souls back into Aether when they and use them to make new Souls with. Although that may not always be enough because is continuesly trying to eat away at the foundation and there can be an increase in population. When this happens it takes Aether from Okeanos to fulfill it's needs.

And so we have been creating countless Galaxies with mostly the same Commandments as well as using gods to do all the tedious stuff and managing them.

"Yo Eva, what are you making there?" Mihail asked.

"I am making a Galaxy with only one god" I said somewhat distracted.

"isn't that alot of work for just one god?" He asked further.

"Yes, but I hope that since it is only one god they can really get things done." I replied "All the others with multiple gods keep getting into arguments and get nothing done as a result."

"That is by design," Mihail said "If they can't agree on stuff then there will be more chaos which should be more fun then order."

"Maybe, but I want do something for this one." I told him.

"What are you going to call it?" He asked.

"The Galaxy will be called Elysium and the god will be called Helios" I replied.
