Chapter 4 - Practical Lesson

Chapter 4 - Practical Lesson

It’s Lowell's 5th birthday, but her day starts with a daily routine with her Teacher.

No one knew when it started, but knowledge that even her teacher, Aurel Hixia doesn't know started to enter her mind. A natural curious child, Lowell asked her teacher like there's no tomorrow.

“Teacher Aurel.. What is oxygen? What is hydrogen? What is an atom?”

Good thing is that her teacher isn't an impatient and close-minded person.

“Huh? What are those? Even during my years as a clerk of Royal Capital’s Library, I never encounter those words. Where did you encounter those words?”

“I don’t know…”

How mysterious..

She started pondering, but her cute face will make anyone not take her too seriously.

“Oh well, rather than that, show me your progress on elemental magic.

Hearing her teacher's voice, Lowell returned to her senses and started to get fired up.

“Yes, Teacher!”

She removed my Magic Regulator bracelet and started to gather my mana. A group of green mana started to accumulate in her hand and started chanting.

“Wisps of air, form my will, Air Shot!”

A ball made of air hit her target, which is placed hanging on the tree. It burst into pieces, some debris flew. Her teacher made a satisfactory nod, but Lowell's face was a little off. Aurel noticed it and asked her pupil.

“Good… What’s the matter?”

“Teacher…I think I could do something better than that…”

Her teacher's face became surprised, but her calm and collected personality returned like nothing happened.

“Oh~? Then show teacher what your idea.”

“Mhm!!”

Lowell started to gather mana. Now…

“Flatten the top and bottom… Add some edges… circulate… and shoot! Air Shot!”

The ball, no… something like a spinning plate flew towards her target. Instead of making it burst, it was cut into two.

“For a child like you to have an idea to upgrade a spell. That was Air Cutter just now. It’s a middle-rank air spell. Now, use your Water and Earth Spells. If you have a good idea, just use it rather than the basic spells.”

“Yes, teacher!”

Lowell started to gather mana again. Now it’s blue lights… After gathering, she modified Water ball into something else.

“Divide into ten pieces, shape it like spikes.. Spin.. and Shoot!”

Her self-modified spell pierced the tree. After two seconds, the water dissipated.

Her teacher made a satisfactory nod and commented.

“Another Middle-rank spell, Water Spikes. If you could divide that water ball into much smaller pieces, it would be a High-tier water spell, Water Needles.”

Lowell realized something. Because of the difficulty of dividing and manipulating each part of water, it becomes a much higher tier.

Next…

Lowell gather mana again… Now it’s brown lights… Forming the rock, Compress.. Spin.. and Shoot!

When her teacher knew that she's done, her teacher clapped showing her approval.

“Good, my student.. Your mastery for three elemental skills reached the Middle-tier. No wonder you’re labeled ‘Genius’ by your family. It really is a good description for you… and to be a beautiful child to boot…”

” Hmm? What did teacher said?”

Lowell tilted my head. Her voice on the last sentence was so low that she didn’t hear it.

“Oh, nothing! Now, for your assignment yesterday. Start!”

” Yes! My assignment is to know how magic is categorized according to level. All spells are divided into seven tiers! The higher the tier, the harder it is to control and higher the mana consumption! Most Fleurs can use all four element’s basic skills ,but the person who has high affinity for an element would have easier time to control that certain element. Like Water-affinity fleurs find it easier to handle water spells, but find it hard to control their element counterpart, which is fire. The exception for this rules are Mysterious Magic Users. They have natural high affinity for all elemental magics, due to their main affinity being connected to nature itself.

For the magic tiers, It is as follows: Basic, Middle, High, Epic, Unique, Legend, and World. Basic, Middle, and High tier magics are available for Apprentices and Practitioners, Epic and Unique Magic are available for Professors and Gaunts, Legend and World Magic are available for Meisters and Magi.

Fleurs are divided into 6 tiers. Each tier is dived into 3 levels – Low, Middle, High. The Magician tiers are Apprentice, Practitioners, Professor, Gaunt, Meister, and Magus. These tiers indicate their mastery on Mana and their Mana capacity!”

” Good, now for your reward.”

Her teacher approached the back of the practice tree. Behind it, she took a wrapped long stick which is half of Lowell’s size.

“Happy Birthday, my apprentice. Now, your mother permitted me to teach you fire magic.”

“Thank you teacher! *sob*”

Lowell smiled towards her teacher while tears fall from her eyes. She consider her teacher as her second mother. She really felt glad that she became her teacher.

“No problem, now let me wipe those tears. You have a birthday celebration to celebrate, right? It would look like I bullied you if you look like that when you enter inside.”

Aurel’s kind smile didn’t erased as she remove the tears from Lowell's face.

“Lowell?! Where are you?! Let’s play~!”

Both of them heard Weiss, who have just arrived from my house. It looks like he’s already here to play with Lowell.

Lowell looked at her teacher with her beautiful eyes that's filled with happiness.

“Teacher, may I?”

“Yes. This is your day.”

Aurel entered the house afterwards.

“Thank you Teacher!”

Lowell bowed towards her teacher’s direction and rushed towards Weiss’ location.

“Weiss! Look what I got!”

Lowell raised her teacher's present.

“Waaah~ a pretty stick! May I borrow?!”

“No~ because it’s my treasure! rather than that, Let’s eat first inside before we play! I’m hungry already!”

“Okay~!”

Two of them held hands as they walked towards Lowell's house.
