Chapter 3 - Chloe

Chapter 3 - Chloe

"[Sunshine]!" she said as she calmly walk towards the group of monsters.

[Sunshine] is an Angel race unique skill. It creates a mini sun above the caster that shines brighly. Within the spell's raidus, it causes continuous burn damage to enemies while providing regeneration for allies and increase healing proficiency for the caster. What makes this a remarkable skill is that the sun can be passed so that it shines above an ally instead.

The bright and burning rays of the artificial sun that is floating above her causes the two groups of monsters to back off. There, she saw clearly what made her slightly panic. What she found in what looks like the plains are... corpses, human corpses that is being eaten and fought for by 4 red wolves and 10 of these grotesque muscled black baby with a head of a dog wielding a spear crying incoherent words that is a mix of low growls and high pitched screams.

The monster that got burned backed off but one of the aggressive wolf ignored the searing pain of the sun and lunged straight at Chloe's neck only to be burned to a rather fragrant piece of meat because the closer an enemy is to the sun, the more burn damage it inflicts.

Seeng this, maybe because they are intelligent, the grotesque dog heads ran on all four back to the forest. The wolves however, did not.

The largest wolf of the tree gave a loud bark which gave all three of the wolves a red and dangerous aura.

In perfect sync, all three of them attacked Chloe. One on her left flank, one on her right and dthe biggest wol is straight up heading towards her like a bold released from a crossbow.

One might be overwhelmed by the attack of the wolves, but not her. For the past 4 days, she had been attacked by these creatures for more than 9 times now. So she knew how they work together and and attack. In addition she knew that these guys would not even put a dent in her armor so even if she let them bite her, she knew that it wouldn't be able to damage her, let alone kill her. Though one couldn't beblamed for her rmor is disguised by a remodelling tool to look like a simple yet fashionable teen wear.

"I'll place these guys on the level 25 while the alpha wolf is 30-ish I guess."

"I have a more... pressing matters to attend to," she said quietly as she looks at the headless corpse of a woman who is now missing her left arm and leg. "So I won't have time to practice with you."

Chloe materialized her disguised hammer and shield just like in the game. She smashed the head of the alpha wolf that is followed by three consecutive lightning strikes from the skies towards the body of the alpha whom died immediately however the two wolves seized this opportunity and simultaneously bit her from both sides.

But the fangs of the wolves didn't even reach the soft skin of Chloe and it was like protected by a barrier around her body.

She smashed the back of the wolf which was again followed by three lightning strikes and bashed the third one with her shield. The bashed wolf was thrown for quite a distance and with a yelping cry of pain, it quickly ran off to who knows where.

"Now that that's over, what do we have here..." she said as she touched the the neck of the male headless corpse. "They've been dead for 3-4 days and they didn't die from an animal or rather a monster attack, the stabs and the clean cut of this beheading can only be done by a bladed weapon."

There are three females and five males with each dying of blood loss inflicted by a bladed weapon. But... there are some parts here that doesn't belong to these corpses, they may have been eaten by the monsters already. Hmm.. only the lady with the blue bloodied dress seem to have died from the beheading. All of the corpses have bite marks and some are missing their body parts. I guess the monsters that tried to eat these corpses were attacked as there have been clear signs of a monster battles happening here. I'm so glad that I have an appropriate experience when it comes to these types of things. She thought to herself.

Unlike most gamers in her generation, Chloe is a functional member of society and that her job is actually something that one could look up to, she's a medical doctor.

Although this is a crime scene where a person would vomit the moment they saw this, she was looking at these corpses differently. She was looking at them like they're just a specimen. Chloe did feel pity for them but it's not enough to move her heart.

"Now let's see if this will work."

She has been playing Elluneniell's Trials for about 15 years so she has basically memorize all of her spells and that of the other classes. So even without the spell icon or the guides that is suppose to be on the bottom of her vision, she can still cast all of her spells. Chloe also discovered that she can cast spells by either invoking its name or just saying it in her mind with an intent to cast it.

She then wears her Veil of Anonimity which gives the effect of [Invisibility III] and also gives a -20% aggro to the user. The reason she didn't wear this when she was in the forest is because she wanted to test what she can do.

"I'm about to do the what others think is only the work of god... here goes, [Ressurection of the Host]!"

[Ressurection of the Host] is the highest tier of resurrection spell that she can cast. It can ressurect any friendly units with full MP and HP within its wide radius. Of course there are other lower tier ressurection spell at her disposal but for the sake of the success rate of her experiment, she has to use this spell for it only has a long cast time as its drawback.

After the 60 seconds cast time, a huge magical circle appeared below and above the corpses just like in the game but this time, Chloe ended up being stunned due to the beauty of the spell because this has the beauty of realism that the game can't even compare to. The light intensifies and she can see that the body parts that is missing is being restored to its previous state. The bones grews anew, the flesh that intertwines to form an arm shape and the skin that covered it all, even the hairs on their body got restored to their original form. The beheaded lady slowly and grotesquely grows her head back, same with the armored man besides her.

After the spell's duration, all of the corpses are restored and all of the strewn human flesh and limbs became motes of light.

She touched the neck of the man nearest to her and...

OH MY GOD! He-he's breathing! They're all breathing!! She said to herself, suppressing the urge to scream out loud.

Chloe just performed the greatest miracle that can only be attributed to a god- The resurrection of the dead.

But she isn’t gonna leave, not yet. For all she knows, they all might be biologically alive but without the cocncept of a will.

Unlike her world, magic exist here, she has been using it isnce day one and the fact that her consciousness is here proves this undeniably. So going by that statement, the concept of the soul might exist here and according to various religious writings, the soul goes to heaven or hell, goes back a god and be reincarnated again or maybe something else, she isn't really well versed on religious writings so she doesn't have a full grasp on the concept of the soul.

She patiently waited while being wary of the surroundings and then at about 15 miinutes, one of the armored men grunted while getting up. Hmm? Did he became a zombie? She thought. He moved his body like a morning person wakes up. He stretched his arms and then suddenly stops... blinks and then let out a horrifying scream as he reached for something on his waist.

Watching from a short distance, Chloe now understood that this group fought someone or something. She can understand the severe trauma it caused the man.

The loud scream woke up everyone and soon all of them sat up. The armored men frantically panicked while the ladies are either crying uncontrollably or are just staring into space.

The most notable of the jungle group however is the 2 in the middle. The blue dress lady is touching her head, crying softly and incoherently speakng words that no one but herself can understand. While the man with the most impressive body stands up, looks at everyone, sheds a single tear and looks up while saying "Forgive me, I will not fail this time..."

That man is the definition of cool. I am so glad that I resurrected you! She said to hersel while ogling at the man.

She would have ogled the man but it ask in a strong voice if everyone is alright. Calmng down the soldiers that are in a fury and the weeping ladies.

"Gerall... It seems like my voice and my... My magan is back..." the former beheaded lady said while crying a river of tears.

The man named Gerall didn't say anything but just knelt on one knee and said "This proves that the gods have not abandoned you... have not abandoned us! Please Princess, stop crying for it will ruin yor face and this joyous occasion."

Uhh... Your welcome? Well, I guess since I hid myself from everyone's view. This is only normal.

It looks like I was right, though I'm basing this on my world's history on aristocrats, associating myself with them is a bad thing and can come with many troubles ahead. Unless I'm forced to or it is needed then I will never show myself to this guy. Chloe thought.

Garall then surveys his surroundings and his eyes almost popped out of its socket. There he saw the corpse of the giant aplha wolf. It's too late even if you notice it now. Chloe remarks in her mind.

"Princess, this is bad. We need to get out of-"

Then they heard the low growls of the dog heads coming from the forest. When they turned tail and run, they numbered about seven but now one by one they carefully surround the group.

Chloe however, steps aside as she has no intention to help. This is the reason why she didn't put the corpses of the two wolves in her inventory, to attract monsters.

"Shit Kobolds! there's too many of these fuckers!" screamed Gerall as he looked for something. "Damn it! They must've took our swords! Protect the princess at all cost! We conquered death bofore we can conquer it again!"

"Ooooh!!" screamed the knights as they form a circle with the princess and the ladies as the center.

I wonder if I should have bought them cheap iron swords? O-oh! That looks like a spell froming ather hands!

As Chloe was watching intently how that battle will unfold, the Kobolds attack with their cride spears and claws. Most of the knight's armors are damage so they are directing the attacks of the Kobold to the undamaged parts. Even without swords and shields, the knights are still able to deflect the attacks of the 20 or so kobolds by throwing kicks and punches once they are in reach.

And after almost a minute of chanting, a lightning ball came ot of the princess' open palms that are facing the Kobolds. The lightnig ball slowly makes its way in the battle field and when a Kobold is finally in range, it zaps every enemy with llightning casing the Kobolds to be paralyze and let the soldiers pummel it to death.

She released 3 more of the lightning ball until she collapses on her knees and catching her breath terribly. But they didn't need to be wary anymore for the 4 remaining Kobolds decided to run away after seeing their allies die.

"Princess!" shouted the the lady wearing a torn up maid outfit.

"You should not have pushed youself Princess, those are only Kobolds." said Gerall while continuing to scan his surroundings.

"But... your armors are broken..." the princess said then took a breath in. " And we don't even have any weapons..."

"But e-even so we could've-"

"That's enough Sir Gerall, let the Princess rest for now."

Then the group secured thick branches of trees to use as a club while keeping wary of the surroundings.

Chloe however, learned a lot during that encounter.

First one is that the phenomenon called magic exists in here, second is that she is able to understand the language that is being spoken by these people and the third is... they are far weaker than she could have hoped for. The 20 dog heads, or Kobolds, are theeasiest prey for her as she can crush them even from just her grip. Their only notable ability is that they can work efficiently in a group but even that is eclipsed by the coordination of the acid-spitting monkeys. She had hope that even without swords, they can overrun them by their sheer strength but it looks like they had a hard time beating what Chloe considered the a small fry.

Maybe this is a side effect of her resurrection of them but she quickly dismissed the thought because all of them looks to be at a proper shape. Humans complains too much when the situation isn't favorable for them. They complained about not having a sword but never complained about being weary or tired.

They let the princess rest for 5 minutes and they went straight towards the plains.

She kept tailing them because she desperately needs information but other than that, its because she still needs to observe them for there might be an unexpected occurances due to the side effect of the resurrection skill. Furthermore, her experimentations isn't even done yet. She has not yet attained her second goal in bringing her back to life and the reason why she left those monster corpses out into the open. Her second objective was to know if a resurrected person can be ressurected again. She knows that the effect of her skills are the same as before but what if there was a limit. If there is indeed a limit, what would dthose limitations be and how she can adapt or circumvent to it will be a matter of life and death in an emergency situation.

She has a passive skill which is always on that lets her be resurrected with 60% HP and MP but what if that didn't work and she dies permanently? That's why she needs to know more about this. But she placed a limit on herself, that she would not directly kill them for her research purpose for she feels that if she does this out of her selfish reason, she would stop being 'human'. Though she would kill those who try to harm her or take her life. Such is the act of self defense.

She observes them from a respectable distance and quietly takes note. There doesn't seem to be any stamina deficiency or anyoservable changes in their health. They are as healthy as can be. She watched them carry the wolf and Kobold corpses, set up camp and butcher those monster corpses. She then notices thatin place of it's heart was a tiny orb which one of the maids pocketed.

After listening to their idle chatter, confirming that there are at least no observable side effects of their ressurection and also obtaining a little information on the towns nearby, she decided to leave and head for the town of Bhenratre. The opposite direction of the group's destination. Who they are, where they go and how will they end up doesn't matter to her, they have done their purpose in her life. She wishes them well in their journey to wherever they'll be going but that's the extent of her care. She did not resurrect them out of sheer goodwill or the need to act like a hero, she resurrected them because she needs an experimental Guinea pigs and in the end, that's what they are, nothing more, nothing less. She only cares about herself unless she feels a need to care about others. She is selfish and she knows that yet doesn't plan to change it either for that is who she really is. This is Chloe.
