Today is my thirty-fifth birthday. I had to rent out a space for my birthday, my house wouldn’t be able to hold the amount of guests coming. It’s a beautiful park with trees in bloom, a pond with ducks quacking, and the sun is shining. I recently got promoted to lead designer in my company, so I made sure to go all out this time. A few of my friends came early to help me get things ready. It was a wonderful morning today. “Hey, Lillie! Help me out over here!”. That was one of my more obnoxious friends. I can somehow carry more stuff than her despite staying in front of the computer every day. I stop setting the cute flower table cloth and walk over to her. She has this huge obnoxious grin that clearly tells me she had no intention of getting my help. Once I get close enough she stops pretending to be unable to roll the ice chest and runs towards me with her arms outstretched. I accept the embrace and we both laugh. She's one of my few childhood friends that didn’t move to some other place. She also happened to be the person who chose all of the decorations. I wouldn’t pick such cutesy things, but I don’t mind it. It brightens up the place more. After a while she finally lets go and calls me over to actually help her move the ice chest. It really wasn’t that heavy. My life up until this day has been comparatively good. Although I was never top of my class in school, I somehow managed to pass by struggling and getting help from friends. I also got a good job thanks to teaching myself how to code. Today was meant to be the ultimate celebration of my life, although saying it like that makes it sound like I think I’m the best person in the world. In reality, my obnoxious friend is the best person in the world! She has helped me through many difficulties throughout my life and I wouldn’t be here without her. Although she has a slightly worried look on her face now that I look at her. “Ummm… I hate to tell you, but I forgot to buy the cake…” She did a full ninety degree bow, I could tell she felt bad. I really didn’t mind, people make mistakes all the time. Especially her. “Alright” I said, “Lets just go buy one right now”.
“Are you sure?”
“Are you sure I’m going to have a party without a cake? Just get in the car already!”
She happily obliged and hopped in the drivers seat.
We arrived at the bakery and headed inside. I had never been here before, but apparently Lillie knows the owners. It appears they aren’t here today. Lillie starts looking around and examining cakes. I’m rather surprised by the wide selection that they offer, the quality isn’t too bad either. Some of them are… How should I put it? Ominous… One of the most disturbing of them is in the corner of the room, it looks like a cake that would be at a funeral. But people don’t eat cakes at funerals, really quite a disturbing cake. Something about it intrigues me, there is a bright sun in the middle, partly covered by the terrain and the big words “MORNING”. Whoever made this cake clearly had a twisted sense of humor. The whole cake is themed so darkly, the happy sun and the word morning must have some deeper meaning that I’m failing to see. Lillie shows up, seemingly satisfied and having found a suitable cake. She seemed confused after looking at me. “What are you looking at?”

“Just this strange cake. I have never seen such a peculiarly designed cake before, it just intrigued me.”
“What cake?”
“This one over here” I point to the corner
“But there isn’t a cake there”
“No, no, no, no, no. There is most definitely a cake.”
She still looked skeptical
“Should I take you to a doctor?”
“It’s literally right here! Look, I’ll even pick it up, bring it to the counter, and buy it.”
As I was doing so, everyone was staring at me as if I’d gone mad. The cake was literally in my hands! When I arrived at the counter, the cashier looked particularly happy and said “Good choice. This is one of the most well made cakes in our bakery.”
“See!” I exclaimed “Even the cashier can see the cake!”
“But… There isn’t a cashier? They left to go get something not long ago.”
“Ok, I’m just going to assume you're pulling some terrible prank on me and buy this cake.”
The price came out to $44.99, not bad.
“Let's go Lillie, we are eating this strange cake for my party.”
“Whatever you say…” She seemed exasperated. She also had a cake, it seemed far more fitting for a birthday party than the one I bought out of spite.
I went to the back of the car in order to put the cake in the trunk. Lillie had a strange car that required someone to pull a handle in the driver's seat. She pulled the lever and the trunk flew open, far faster than it usually does. I guess I was standing too close. The force sends me backwards, I can barely see anything. The only thing I feel is overwhelming pain around my mouth. I must have broken multiple teeth. I try to get up, but find I can’t. Did I break a bone? I look to the right and see a bright light heading my way, a loud honk follows. Is this really how I die? Getting my head crushed by a truck after trying to put a stupid cake in a car? No. I can do so much more with my life! Everything just started turning for the better! Why must I die now? Time slowed. Allowing me to think about everything before I die. How cruel. The truck failed to do anything. For a few seconds I feel the tire against my helpless face.
