It was the year 3042, and humanity had made much progress in almost every field, changing the world drastically from eras long past. Diseases were almost nonexistent. Fusion Power Plants allowed for an unlimited source of power, and everything was digital or electrical. The modern person’s IQ had gone up a bit too, making the world as a whole, a bit more intelligent. In this modern age, the world was divided into two major superpowers that were overwhelmingly powerful. The first superpower consisted of North America, South America, and Europe and was known as the Union. The second superpower consisted of Australia, Africa, and Asia, and was known as the Holy Alliance. Despite the world as a whole making many reforms, the two superpowers absolutely despised each other. Travel between the two had been banned for a long time, and political negotiations had crumbled to an abysmal state for over a century now. However, up till now, nothing too serious had happened. Now, in this era of fragile political relations, a child was born that would shake the world, and would be the first step into leading it into destruction.
In the Union, George Arvin was born as an abnormality. As a baby, he almost never cried. By the age of one, he could speak, read, and understand things clearly. By the age of two, he had mastered the six primary languages of English, French, German, Chinese, Spanish, and Russian. By the age of three, he had read all of the books that were found in the children and teen sections of the free digital online library systems, a collection consisting of over 30,000 books. By the age of seven, he had completely read, and perfectly memorized all the books in the internet archives, a massive collection consisting of over a billion books. After he had finished it all, he went on to skip all of primary and high school, skipping directly to university/college. There, he shocked everyone again, with his mental prowess, by lecturing the lecturers there, and using their labs for extremely complex research. When George was ten, he went on to make major discoveries in physics, and win a Novel Prize. From there, the government of the Union scouted him to join them in their technology development centers. There, he quickly showed off his intelligence, putting the scientists there to shame. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming director of research for the branch lab he was assigned to. Although he never showed it, he was quite lonely and sad. No matter where he had been, he would almost always receive praises and admiration, and never ended up making any friends. Due to the large amount of time he was busy doing things, he was only close to his family. The one he particularly cared for was his little sister, Emily.
Emily was two years younger than George, and unlike George, was quite normal. She was slightly smarter than an average person, and was quite close to George. She would always stop by George’s Lab every Sunday and try to play with George. Though George never had time, he would always spend time with here during every break he got from work. As one of the only people George conversed with, he was quite doting towards his little sister. As such, they became quite close friends.
When George was sixteen, he was promoted, and then reassigned to a different lab closer to the Union’s capital, which was previously Paris. Naturally his family moved along with him to the town the lab was situated in. This lab George was assigned to this time was actually a new state of the art research and development facility complete with a machine mass production factory, hidden deep underground. On the land on top of the laboratory, was a small military base, in which a few thousand troops resided. George was quite satisfied with the new location, as it was quite well equipped for his work, making his life quite a bit easier. Furthermore, it was only two blocks from where his family was now living, so it was quite convenient for his little sister to visit once in a while. So, life continued peacefully for the next two years with which George was quite happy with.
By the time George turned eighteen, he had been consecutively promoted to the council, the ruling group of the Union (the government). He had been given the title of Supreme Director of Science and Technology Research and Development, both for normal everyday applications as well as military use. Naturally, he was given some say into the major decisions of the Union, as well as given some info on Union’s state of things, politically. Soon after George was promoted, he was called to a meeting in which all council member were present. In this meeting, George learned a shocking piece of news. Due to some useless political reason, that George could care less about, the Holy Alliance had attacked Union territory, and many people had been injured, but no deaths had yet been reported. The meeting of the council now was to determine the Union’s course of action. The ten council member then had a vote in which George was the only one against declaring war. George thought that declaring war would only escalate things to a climatic point and deal irreparable damage to both nations. Of course, being outvoted, he was ignored, and the Union declared war on the Holy Alliance. George however, having read about many things in the past, wanted no part of it.

And so, George holed himself into the new laboratory, and spent the next eight months there, almost never leaving, even on holidays. Only his sister would come and stop by, and chat with him every few days. Then on December 24th of that year everything changed forever.
On the morning of December 24th, his sister has stopped by, and constantly pestered him to come home for Christmas, which was the very next day. George was actually quite busy, but happily agreed to stop home tonight, and take the day off tomorrow or Christmas. After getting George’s reply, Emily happily went home. Meanwhile, George was actually quite looking forward to it, not having seen his family much ever since his major promotion to the council. Going back to work, he quickly tried to wrap up some things in the lab before heading on home. Right when he was about to finish up, pack his bags and leave, a tremendous tremor passed though the underground laboratory, and George was knocked off his feet, hitting his head on a nearby desk and passing out from the impact.
Twelve hours later, George woke up, feeling a throbbing pain on his head, but otherwise, quite refreshed (he hadn’t slept much the past few weeks due to work), but rather confused. Then he notice several things were wrong. Firstly, a lot of the things in the room were moved around, anything not bolted to the floor had been moved about a foot from their original location. No lab equipment seemed to have been damaged however. The next thing he noticed was on the huge wall sized touchscreen monitor, there was a yellow X flashing, showing that something powered related had happened to the laboratory. He went over, and opened up the minimized window, and was shocked. Primary Power to the laboratory had been cut, and power was now coming from the back up fusion reactor built underground. Furthermore, all communications with the military base above him had been cut. George quickly used his council credentials to access the town’s security cameras and found to his shock, that the base had been leveled, all the that was left of the former base was a pile of rubble.
George quickly accessed the situation around town using the public security cameras that were everywhere, and the more he looked, the more shocked he was. Everyone seemed to be dead! There were people dead on the street collapsed, with blood coming out of their skin. Many cars had crashed, and parts of the town was burning. It was deathly silent. After a while, he came to the conclusion that some sort of radioactive weapon had been used here to wipe everyone out. As these thoughts flew through his head, he quickly remembered his sister and his family and frantically used the security cameras to perform a search for them. When he found his family, he froze. They had been shopping it seems, and they were now dead, right outside the grocery store. George’s mind blanked. Then he let out a scream of rage and agony that echoed through the silent laboratory.
Author's Note - Hi everyone, this is my first time writing something like this, I hope you enjoyed it. Don't worry, the story's pace will pick very soon. This story was on hiatus for a bit due to rl things, but I'm back and going to give another attempt at writing this. Part 2 of the Prologue, previously released has been left as is, but I fell as it is lacking in information. Part 1 should clear up things quite a bit, and Part 2 will be revised within the week, and expanded, so I apologize that it's a bit short and badly written. Also, any suggestions would be welcome. Do inform me if you notice any contradictions/contradicting plot points in the story though, so I can fix them ASAP. I apologize for any spelling errors or bad grammar, as English isn't my native language.
