Prologue: A Narrator, An Antisocial, and An Envelope

Why Hello!

I know you have quite a few questions (Most of which will not be answered). Such as why you’re here and who I am and what the story even is.

I can answer the first one easily. The name is Wyrm. I also go by “The Storyteller” or “The Swiggly”. Call me whatever you please.

As for my voice? You could imagine me as a calm British man or a Scottish man who always seems angry.

You can turn down the Scottish accent in your head now.

Ok ok that’s enough from me. Let me talk about what you came here to hear. (That is if you still have my voice in your head)

This story is from a small island off the coast of somewhere. A small island that’s mostly known as Ordinary. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s normal. Most haven’t.

We’ll be viewing the story of a certain boy of the name Vinlo Char, who just like you has learned that a place named Ordinary Island existed. But unlike you he has incentive and the location to head for the Island. Let’s begin shall we?

Vinlo Char is practically an adult now, or so he says. He tries his “best” to be responsible for himself, but it turned out he wasn’t very good at this. As evidenced by his messy apartment room and the smell. We don’t talk about the smell. Vinlo hasn’t really been fine ever since he cut off ties with his family due to some circumstances involving money, public image, and a certain chicken. Now would be an ideal time to describe Vinlo. He’s a standard height boy, around 5 foot 5 give or take a few inches. His skin is a light shade of pale that was just hereditary and never seemed to go away no matter how much he got outside. He has violently yellow eyes which he covers up often with contacts or sunglasses due to them being a sensitive topic for him. His straight black hair with yellow highlights had one large offshoot laying through the center of his head, curving and making a strange upside-down Y shape. Most ends of his hair curl naturally due to his habit of making loops of them around his fingers. If one had to describe Vinlo’s personality it would probably include the words “Incredibly”, “Stupid”, “And”, and “Dissapointing”. Preferably in that order as well.

Vinlo was in his apartment scrolling through different social media, getting little tidbits of joy from the chaos and drama unfolding everywhere live. He caught a passing glance at the overdue bills on the counter across from him and decided to actively ignore them. He could file them when he got the urge to change his life at 3 AM and returned to watching complete idiots argue it out on the internet. And then he found no joy from this. So he put away his phone with reluctance and flopped his head over the side of the couch. After a while of staring off into space he started looking around and thinking about how weird it would be if gravity was reversed just that instant. Unfortunately before he could finish this daydream the doorbell rang.

This was a big thing. Vinlo hadn’t gotten any visitors since… maybe a week ago? If you counted the pizza guy as a visitor. Anyways he fell right off the sofa as people tend to do as they are surprised in the media and started to scramble to clean up stuff and run to the door. After creating more mess by accident then he had normally he finally got to the door and opened it. He saw one of the few people he really wished he wouldn’t see again. Even if he was mostly disappointed in his own ineptitude to hide his new apartment there was a part of him that was slightly joyful that his family would seek him out.

“Yes? Hello?”

The words came to him almost naturally while he was waiting for his sister to respond. Unlike Vinlo his sister got all the genes from the good side of the family while Vinlo got stuck with the bad ones as he called them. The only thing the two had in common was blood and hair color and even then Vinlo had yellow highlights.

“Vinlo Char. I regret to inform you that my grandfather from the family you abandoned has passed and for some odd reason he has left you something. Feel glad that my grandfather even thought to leave you something or anything in his will.”

Her voice was so…. Monotonous. Vinlo felt bad even listening to her because of how she just started striking all the chords from the get-go. Though the mental damage from the strikes wore off as quickly as they came due to the sheer surprise that Vinlo felt. His grandfather had left him something in the will? For context his grandfather was very concerned about the family reputations and Vinlo’s stunt years back had practically ruined that. So the fact that his grandfather even considered him an heir came as a shock.

“And what would this “something” be?”

The lady at the door simply handed Vinlo an envelope and left without saying a word to him. That was when Vinlo realized that his grandfather. His father’s father. Had perished. And his sister, the one who hated him because of his screw-up, had come to deliver the news. He had no idea how to feel about this so he just retreated inside, throwing the envelope onto the pile of bills and laid down on his couch.

Thinking about what was to come.

Little did Vinlo know at the time. He never would have thought of what was to come…
