Chapter 1: Death is a Peace None Deserve

Chapter 1: Death is a Peace None Deserve

Katarina "Kate" Bellview knew what she had done, what she had created. Leaned over her wooden desk, ghostlike faces appearing across the surface and disappearing, before repeating again all across the fifteen foot long desk. Her frazzled red hair blocking her view of the large stack of equations and magical symbols. The symbols glow with an eerie green, with black and blue wisps sliding across them from time to time. She stands up and immediately falls back, into a black leather chair.

" Fifteen years, it took to make this spell circle. A hypothetical tier 6 circle that should call the world spirit out of hiding, damning not only it but this entire planet to destruction." Kate stated, watching the symbols rotate through the different shades and colors. " I can't even test the fucking circle without it either killing me or setting off the World Spirit countdown. This is a fucking one and done deal and I am not happy about it. Status." She says, and a translucent blue screen with white text appears in her vision.

She looked through her status in disappointment, seeing the large amount of negative Titles, spells, and skills. She had never planned to progress, and never in the classes she chose. All her class showed was a path of death, destruction, and pain. Leaning back, she reminisced about her life almost two decades before this.

Flashback

She never wanted things to go this way, she got her first class at 18, same as everyone else. She studied for years to achieve magedom, and may not have been a prodigy, but was happy just studying the wonders of magic. She met a man on an adventuring quest, Damien, and partied with him for 3 years before marrying him and giving him twins. She retired to care for the twins, Abbigale and Marcus, and he continued to adventure, making his way to a Tier 3 class and C rank. He was hope TWO weeks out of the month, and was the most loving person she could ask for.

Then the world decided to give her two separate Titles that ruined everything.

Enemy of the World let everyone know she was somehow a threat, gave them a notification she existed and her location, all without my knowledge. Cursed by Fate, a unique Title, continued to keep them informed of her location, with a whole other litany of affects. Kids can't see the system as they don't awaken until their eighteenth year, and her husband was away on a large expedition for a private guild.

She woke up two weeks later to her kids butchered and hung on pikes, with obvious signs of torture. Her husband was bound in chains made of manacite, to make sure he couldn't escape, his jaw and legs missing, kept alive by priests who continuously healed him. A large group of different races surrounding her home, all in white battle robes with a gods symbol, a winged two sided blade with a shield behind it, embroidered in different colors on their chest and left arms.

" See this, abomination!? This is what happens to people who are acquainted with an Enemy! Your children tortured and husband forced to watch! You did this to them! And my god, Bara'Akosh, the god of Justice and Protection, shall cleanse you and these betrayers from this plane and all others." The leader, a six foot blue skinned man with gnarled horns coming out of the top of his head, wearing a white battle robe with gold embroidery of his god, smiled.

Emotions flashed across her face, anguish, grief, terror, all to settle into one final emotion. Rage, and the feeling to slaughter all of these believers who ruined her happiness. Her and her husband had paid extra for a thought binding marriage, and it allowed them to communicate with a thought as long as they could see each other.

" Damien, don't worry, I'm coming. I'll save you and find a way to bring the twins back." She thought, voice filled with grief and rage.

" Katie, just run, please. They cursed me with grievous wounds by divine spell. There is no future for me." He thought saddened, before his voice filled with conviction. " Run, and don't look back. Work on getting the twins back and make sure Bara'Akosh suffers for this. I do not know why we were the target, but it was a mistake."

" I didn't get to celebrate it sadly, but I made it to Tier 4." He smiled, although it looked disturbing missing the lower half of his face." It's name is Crystal Heart Manipulator, which would've helped buff all my physical attributes. A good side affect though is that I can overload my hearts with over four times my normal mana. You got 5 seconds, take the teleport scroll in the oven vent and cast our Greater shield spell that's hidden under the fake drawer, cast it on the kids bodies and go!" He sent, before she noticed Mana around him becoming so thick that it became visible. It looked as if a blood red mist had overtaken his person, his skin and flesh slowly tightening over his frame, as if the vitality was slowly being sucked away.

She had luckily already gathered their spell scrolls as soon as she noticed the crowd. She casted Greater Barrier on her kids corpses and watched has the Set Teleportation scroll was negated. Standing there, she watched as her husband exploded, before all she saw was black.

Flashback End

She stood up, and called on her friend and eldritch summon from the K'vasti Plane. " Kor, is the room still ready?" She asked, as a creature walked in the room.

Standing at nearly eight feet tall, with an oval-shaped head and flat face. Tentacled hair that was braided with memorabilia from different battles and missions. A slim but defined body, with four fingered hands that were webbed halfway up the fingers. Six separate tentacles protruded from its back, each with metal contraptions attached around the tips, and them currently wrapped around its chest. It's legs were set similar to goats legs, but instead of hooves at the bottom, they were shape-shifting, and could switch between a warhammer form and blade form

" Yes Katarina, the ritual room is prepared, as well as the connection to the soul well in my plane. And how many time do I need to tell you to call me by my full name, Kor'Anath, Secret Keeper." The eldritch being said in a deep, baritone voice.

" You know our deal, whenever you beat me in a game of real sized chess will I not only call you by your name, I will also give you one of my artificial crystal hearts." Kate said, amused. " Also I've told you to call me Kate, that was the reward of our card game Kor."

Kate suddenly turns serious, " Any progress on breaking the purification on my children?" All Mana in the room suddenly hardens, making it feel like the air has turned to stone.

Kor ignores it and says calmly, "There has been little progress on that, we have concluded that there were 17 Tier 5 purification spells casted directly on the corpses, and then 12 Tier 5 Divine Purification spells directly mounted to each the bodies, make a pseudo Tier 6 sealing purification artifice tool. Shivu'Arath, Eldritch Holy Researcher, says that unless you can cast a hypothetical Tier 7 True Unlife, nothing will solve the issue."

" Then I go with plan B, tell Shivu that if she continues research into the subject after I send her back to The Crimson Palace, and keeps my children's bodies safe and preserved, I will also give her this hypothetical Tier 6 circle I ma-"

Kor interrupts me " You know that will not be enough for her, she researches holy magic and it's branches, as well as divine spells she has stolen from heroes."

Kate looks at Kor in confusion. " Since when have you ever interrupted me first of all, and second of all let me finish. I will give her the Tier 6 spell as well as the definition of every single rune in it."

Kor then looks up in shock, " You would give her your life's work, and all research involved, just for her to do what she has always done, you know this breaks our laws, it is not of equivalent value!"

" To you it means little, I would end worlds to see my children play again." She says in determination.
