A soft groan was audible over the silence of the city. She groaned again, stirring awake this time and trying to focus on what she was seeing. At first everything was a blur, but Kayla slowly began to regret ever waking from her slumber. The more her eyes cleared, the more rubble she saw scattered throughout the street. Craters bigger than the size of a human were present everywhere, and not just on the streets but also the buildings nearby. The only thing that was unaffected were the trees, aside from some leaves that had fallen on the gravel. Yet even the cars had suffered major damage from what looked like a battle that had taken place here.
Nonetheless, Kayla tried to get back on her feet but couldn’t. Something was restricting her from doing so. She stared back to see what it was and it was a large metal pole pinning her legs underneath. The young woman grunted, trying to pry them out with no success. It was then that she heard yelling from a short distance away. Her eyes narrowed to see Luke yelling at Hunter. Hunter was grabbing his hair in a sort of frenzied panic while Luke held his sword away from Hunter, most likely to protect him from danger. His ears were perked up, moving back and forth to listen. But then Kayla heard soft sobbing on the other side and turned to look there.
Leah was sniffling, back hunched over and legs slumped parallel to the ground. One of the horns on her head was broken and her uniform was torn in different areas. Yet what probably terrified young Kayla the most, was the look on her friend’s face. Those wide eyes that were ready to pop out of her head. Her teeth gritted, yet the sobs were still so clearly heard. Her entire body shook with that pained stare on her face. Kayla wanted nothing more than to help her, but not even she could help herself.
“L-Leah…” Kayla croaked.
Her voice was pretty hoarse. Just what had to have happened to her to be stuck in this situation. She heard running footsteps coming towards her and the young woman gave a startled look.
“Oh my God, Kayla,” Christina said, her uniform appearing tattered as she went over to the pole that was pinning her to the ground.
She grunted and yelled, using whatever strength she could to pick it up. Kayla could see just how exhausted Chris was, yet she still pushed herself just to free her. Once Kayla was unpinned, Christina grabbed Kayla’s arm, picking her up to help her.

“W-What–”
“It’s okay, it’s okay. Lamb ordered us to get the fuck out of here,” Christina said, while wrapping one of Kayla’s arms around her shoulders to help her walk.
Kayla slowly nodded her head, feeling a wave of exhaustion hit her. But she had just woken up not that long ago, how could she be so tired? Looking around, she could see the dark mists working their way through the streets and buildings. Demons were already infesting this area, so perhaps it was best that they leave at once. The young woman gasped when she felt herself almost fall, but Christina didn’t let her. Kayla glanced at Chris apologetically while Chris shook her head, as if to say not to.
The weary young lady turned her head and saw a small figure of white. She stared harder and saw that it was Lamb. It seemed the little animal was staring at some of the black mist that was overtaking the area. Kayla looked at Lamb a bit longer, only to trip on some of the rubble from a nearby office building. She fell and Christina came down with her.
“Come on Kayla, come on,” Chris whispered harshly, picking her up by the arm again.
Kayla looked back over to see Lamb, but the white figure was no longer there. She inspected the surrounding area for any sign of the animal, but nothing. It was as if Lamb just disappeared into thin air.
“Oh no…” Christina breathed out.
The two of them stopped to look over at an intersection. Stretched out on the gravel and crying uncontrollably was another one of their friends. Her uniform was all damaged in a similar fashion to everyone else’s.
“No… No, no…” Samantha cried.
Her wings were spread out along the ground in a depressive manner as she cried over at the gray cloud in front of them. It didn’t seem like the black mist that was overtaking the city, but looked more like a thick dust covering something up.
Finally, an evil laugh pierced through the bitter silence, “Nothing will stop the Master from getting what he wants now.”
Looking on in despair and fear, Kayla felt her eyes widen and her heart dropped. No one could help them now.
