Prolouge: Horos's Mission
"Lytis, the God of Messengers and Observations, you may grace yourself to the Supreme God Horos."
A trumpet flare surrounded my ears as I entered Horos's throne room. His stiff and stern demeanor gave no way as the embarrassing long titles that preceded his name were announced. I took notice not to react until the angels surrounding us left the room, which they did eventually after finishing formalities. I stayed stiff as the impractical door behind me was closed with a loud 'thud'. Only then did the laughter I held in was released, whose sound echoed throughout the room. I cleared my eye of a tear.
"How can you always stand such an embarrassing introduction?"
"You get used to it after some time. After all, I must act perfectly in front of my constituents or face losing faith within the populace and the gods."
"Ya, ya. You never acted like this in school. I remember when you were much more flippant in class."
"I was young then. I was barely a god for a century and I was banished to your world because of it. But think of it another way. You may not have your position as the God of Messengers and Observations if I weren't there."
"Horos, you know that I never liked this job."
My laughing face turned much more serious. Horos, feeling as if he triggered a mine, sealed his mouth and started stroking his chin, a habit he learned from my world. He facial expression changed into a sullen one, and silence became the conversation between the two of us. Only after an awkward silence did Horos leave his seat on the throne and took strides to bridge the gap of distance between us.
"Lytis, you know that you are the only one for this job. The job of a god. Your tempered spirt matches such attributes that a God of Messengers and Observations requires, and I have yet to witness another soul like yours. I may have not known the situation of yours at that time but I know much more about you now than when I appointed you as a god. However, I remain by my choice and I am certain that one day you will understand why I picked you. I too have seen your life as a mortal."
I diverted my eyes from him. Noticing that, he approached me and placed his hands on my face before adjusting my gaze onto his piercing blue eyes.
He placed his right hand to the side, seeming grasping something in the air. The space which he held started distorting like that of a hot summer day. A scroll, tied with a thin red string, materialized within his hand soon after.
"I have one final request for you."
He handed the scroll to me with which I grasped with my hands.
"What do you mean by 'final'?" I asked.

"That is something you will know latter. What is important for you right now is to understand your most important request that I have asked of you for some time. Tomorrow morning, open the scroll after you awake. Understand?"
I nodded my head.
"Ok, time to move on." His arms turned my shoulders around and pushed my body towards the door. "With great haste you shall make."
With lack of business left to talk about and the lack of will to do so, I left the room as the giant the doors automatically opened by the God of Messengers and Observations.
Horos, the Supreme God, stood in the middle of the room. He opened my mouth, and lip-reading his words, I understood his words: "Good Bye."
Those were words he never said to me after I became a god.

With sunlight streaming into the humble abode that I lived in, the bells of the God's Palace rung throughout the whole celestial realm. The rare occurrence only happened when an important event occurred, which drew my attention to any angel messenger who brought the news at such a time. Similar to other gods, an angel landed at the footsteps of my house, and looking out the window, may other gods had similar news messengers.
Another bell rung, this one that signified someone at the front of my door. Off my bed and down the stairs I went, opening the door to find an angel that I trained for Horos's personal delivery team.
"Patron God of Messengers, the Council of Gods has announced the disappearance of Horos. In his bedroom, we found a message that announced the abdication of his throne, and no successor has been announced."
My eyes widened at the news. Horos had disappeared!
"Was it a mistake?"
"Negative. Horos has yet to be found. And by emergency protocol, all gods are summoned to the God's Palace."
"Alright. I will come latter."
"Thank you for your time."
The angel left the house, flying farther away from the God's Palace, towards the residences of other lesser gods. I returned upstairs and entered my study to open the scroll that Horos gave me the day prior. The dark ink bulged in front of me, and the sloppy handwriting reminded me of the days he was a high school student with me.
Dear Lytis,
If you are reading this as how I have instructed you to do so, I would have disappeared from the celestial realm and abdicated my position as the Supreme God. Right now, you must have a lot of questions, but I wish for you to not seek the answers to them. However, the upmost importance is this request. I am requesting you to record the events that are to follow, not as an immortal, but rather a mortal. Go to the mortal world and act as a mortal. Hold a sword and become an adventurer. Grasp a staff and become a mage. Document the fights that will envelope the mortals after the immortals command their followers to do so. And when I return, make sure that you send me the fruits of your efforts. A silver key is enclosed in this letter will help you one day on your journey.
Sincerely,
Horos
