Dracus Entry 1

Notes on the Odd Actions of Mallory Spinster

Property of Dracus Spinster

05/30/04

For a few weeks now Mallory has been acting… odd. It all started last Wednesday (05/22) when Mal fell out of the fig tree in the back yard, resulting in her falling into an unconscious state for two days. Now I know that everyone already thinks that Mal is crazy (except Mom and Dad, who are both too busy doting over her to care), so they tend to ignore the things she does so long as they don’t interfere with their lives, but she’s been acting different than normal.

During the two days after the incident she seemed to experience great distress her dreams, specifically related to her current fiancée. The two of them have never been very well matched from my perspective, so I feel that her fear is justified. This has never been so much as a slight concern to her though, so maybe falling out of that tree fixed whatever blockage she had in her brain keeping her from noticing it?

Unauthorized use: this story is on Amazon without permission from the author. Report any sightings.

But that was by far the least strange thing that changed in her behavior. She has begun training herself for a “trial by combat,” which is unlikely considering she is both a girl and she has not committed a felony of some kind. Maybe she is planning on committing one? I should watch for evidence of such.

Anyhow, Mal never had much interest in combat before, although she does have a well-trained body from her obsession with riding and her oddly obsessive espionage of Remus, her fiancée. I was quite willing to teach her however, and, considering my considerable skill and position as a royal guard, I am quite well equipped to do so. We will begin our first training session tomorrow night.

She has continued her habitual harassment of the maids, but it seems less mean-spirited than before. She hasn’t even fired her personal servant this week! I, for one, am quite impressed. I have heard that some sewing supplies have gone missing, but I do not believe that this is Mal’s doing, considering her terrible embroidery skills (I certainly hope not, considering her last attempt ended in the destruction of three of my cowls and a teapot) and her fear of needles.

Finally, she seems to have stopped harassing Mom and Dad for those absurd gifts of hers. Considering our rather considerable monthly allowance, she should be doing fine money-wise (I have no idea what she was spending it on before, even I only have a job for the political pull and the prestige that comes with being a royal guard).

I am simply concerned that something may be wrong with my little sister. If something radical changes in her behavior, especially for the worse, I will have a log of her previous actions to aid in diagnosis.

Recording crystal entry 1 end.
