Oldern: Prologue

As all eight beacons ignite, Marcobious looks up. "This light makes me feel like I’m ascending to our gods." They suddenly turn blood red and an unfamiliar figure appears. It fires a beam of light at him, much similar to the beacons. The beam of light heads toward Marcobious as his life flashes and dims. But we can only tell the end of this legend's story with the start of his purpose.

Marcobius is just an ordinary fellow, specifically a farmer, a lonely one if you will. He is known in his village for saving a chicken from a wolf one time which made him the “town hero”, (practically). The year is 1496, and Marcobious’s 18th birthday was a few days ago, he’s reached the age where he can leave his village which he has been dying to do for years. Marcobious is planning to leave tonight (Well, that's what he said). He loves to procrastinate on every little thing he does. For his family, he has his mom, Abigail, who is a blacksmith, and his dad Marco, who was slain by a group of bandits when he was little. As nightfall approaches, Marcobious realizes he must prepare for the trip away from his home village. His mom sees him packing all his belongings and clothes and asks, “Now, where do you think you’re going?”

“Oh, mom I was just heading over to George’s house. It’s game night tonight and I can't miss it. "

Luckily, his mom believed him (somehow) and continued to pack. Once he’s finished packing, he hastily heads outside and starts heading down the main town road.

“Phew, finally I can get out of this wretched town” as he walks further down the road he looks up at the unforgettable night sky. “One day I wish to travel to somewhere far, far away with no worries, and no one telling me what to do.” He heads deeper, reaching the forest of the damned. A lot of myths and legends start in this forest. One legend in particular always caught Marobious’s eye, the tale of Arcana; this legend tells of eight immensely powerful masks. With these masks, some say you could fight a god, while others say it will create impending doom. But enough ranting about some dumb legend. Let’s see how Marcobious is doing. The further he heads into the forest, the darker and eerier it gets. “Man, this place gives me the creeps don’t wanna be here too long.” As he moves along, walking fast, he spots a faint light in what looks to be a cave. Naturally, as any human would do he goes to investigate as he approaches an old man who comes out of the cave, he appears to be injured the old man walks up to him and mutters “Y… y… you must retrieve the masks a… an evil is approaching and these masks are the only things that can stop it.” The old man hands Marcobious a map and falls to the ground as he takes his last breath. Marcobious just stands there, confused as hell. Once he gets out of his confusion, he looks at the map and sees that there are eight different locations. “Masks, eight locations? This seems all too familiar.” Then it clicks, and it reminds him of his childhood legend. “Arcana, no way is this happening?” As he jumps in excitement, he looks at the map and sees his town. “One of these locations is fairly close.” He jogs toward the first location as his adventure begins.
