Chapter 2: Sharona
I was certainly panicking. The house that I’ve built on through the years was being devoured by fire right before my very eyes.
But, forget about anything else, I have to save her first!
I gathered the mysterious girl in my arms yet, all of a sudden, a bluish light generated around her—like a barrier. When she opened her eyes—as if she awoke from an eternal slumber—her pupils shone the same bluish color and she floated around the fire without getting burned.
“What in the world is going on?”
To me, who was but a regular guy, was more than mystified. However, my surprises did not end there. In the middle of those dancing flames, the petite girl with purple hair looked at me.
I was frozen in place, unable to move, not because of fear, not because of despair. The light in her eyes reflected my visage clearly, even clearer than the morning sky.
“RE-CODE.”
“Recode?”
While she spoke in a monotone voice, she raised a hand and another light circulated around it. That circle had the similarities of a clock. The writings are different, but if you count it accordingly and checked the hands, it is basically the same.
Swiftly, the ticking of a grandfather clock resounded in my ears. With every passing second, that reverberating sound was getting louder and louder.
I covered my ears and at the same time, what I would call a miracle transpired.
The broken glasses, the doors, our burnt roof, my injuries, all of it slowly returned to place—just as if the passage of time returned to a certain point. Even the fire that originated from her cauldron was sucked in like a vacuum.
And in the next moment, everything returned as if that nightmare was a lucid dream, except for a single person—my master was nowhere to be found! The light covering the girl soon faded and I caught her in my arms.
She was light, like a delicate gem that would fit just right in my palm. That’s how small she feels right now. It's hard for me to face the truth but, however superficial it may be, could this girl really be my master?
Considering my understanding of the situation, that’s the only logical conclusion I can think of.
No, even though my master had certainly been crazy as of late, I don’t believe she’s the type of person who would delve deep into something akin to a forbidden art.
I shook my head. All of this would be solved once this girl opened her eyes.
After acquiring a conclusion for now, I laid the girl down on my master’s bed. It has generated dust through the years, but it’s still better than sleeping on that couch as hard as a stone like me.
I swiped away and pushed her hair aside. This girl really is cute. If this is my master on her younger years, I would have fallen for her without a doubt.
I shook my head again. No, no, let’s not wish for those types of endings.
Just when I found the courage to walk away, she suddenly grabbed my arm, as if a nightmare was bothering her sleep.
“Don’t…leave me……Don’t.”
Although she clung to my arm tightly, her eyes were still shut tight, and her harsh breathing and panting sparked a concern in my heart—I can’t leave her like this.
“Don’t worry, I’m here.”
Seeing no reason to decline, I extended my right hand to her. The girl gently grabbed my hand and pressed it against her chest. Whether she was wide awake or actually sleeping, I didn’t care. I was stroking the back of her head with my fingers, trying my best to comfort her from whatever fear that’s tormenting her sleep.
It was something special to me. Whenever I can’t turn myself to sleep or I’m sick, master would always snuck around my spot to hold my hand. She would accompany me throughout the night. All those times, I pretended to be asleep and just enjoyed the comfort of her warmth passing from her hand to mine.
They did say that nothing in this world compares to the comfort and security of having someone just hold your hand. Even more so if that certain someone is a person you trust.
“Sleep well.”
Recalling the good luck charm that my master had always given me, I bent and pressed my lips on her forehead. She giggled for a little bit, making me think to myself if my lips were somewhat ticklish?
With our hands still connected, I laid down on the cold hard floor myself. As much I want to keep her company all night, even I need my sleep and rest.
Maybe this is all just a dream itself………
For now, I decided to push these troublesome thoughts away from my mind and just quietly wished myself a goodnight sleep.

“*Sniff*… *Sniff*”
Eh, someones crying?
I approached the lady sulking on the ground. She was drawing circles like a child too.
“Why are you crying?”
“It’s because you don’t like what I called you.”
“You mean my name? Surely you can think of a better one than that?”
“No, your name will be Kekewne from now on!”
Although this lady has visible wrinkles on her forehead, she’s still on her prime, for the most part. But you can’t help but think that she has the mentality of a child, judging from her childish responses and actions. She’s pretty unreasonable too. But despite all the things that I hate about her, I liked her very much………

I woke up earlier than the earnest sun. I started preparing breakfast. I was burning wood twice as much as I did compare to any other day. I wanted to prepare something good for her when she awoke, is what I thought.
Don’t know why, but I felt a sudden surge of electricity behind me. Alarmed, thinking about the worst, I turned around carrying a frying pan on one hand.
There was like a cat nibbling on the melon bread that I left defenseless on the table. She wore a dark robe and matching hat that further defines her job description as a witch. Although she wore a menacing outfit, her cute face outshines that darkness.
“Hohoho, *nom* you… must be my manservant, correct?”
“Manservant my ass? I don’t remember being your servant, milady.”
“Hohoho, well now you do,” She folded her legs while she gives out a hearty laugh. “What type of synthesization product is this? It certainly is fitting for an apprentice they prepared for me. You passed my test, you can keep your title as my servant as long as you supply me with this thing.”
I had the sudden urge to whack her smug face with my frying pan, but I kept that inside me.
“How about introducing yourself first, milady?”
With my eyebrows twitching, I spoke in a sarcastic tone.
“HOHOHO! WORSHIP ME! HONOR MY NAME—”
She stopped and pressed a hand on her head. It was hard to figure out her expression, but it was on the lines of a confused kid.
“What’s the matter?”
I was still joking, but all sign of life had already left her face. My actions made me sick.
“I can’t seem to remember my name. My… My head’s blank…”
She stares at me in confusion, while she presses both of her hands down the table, where I can’t see them shake.
“Who… Who am I?”
After that, all I heard was the loud clanging of my frying pan hitting the floor. Some sort of pain heats through my chest, as I embraced her tightly. She clung to my arms, and in the next instant, she let the emotions forming in her eyes loose.
I wasn’t sure of what to do…
I wonder what will be good to say…
“I don’t remember anything… Who are you? What am I doing in this place?”
While she showered me with questions, she kept on rubbing her face, her eyes against my chest. For sure, something exploded inside her. Something deep that caused her to act like this.
“I’m your servant remember?”
“Lies. You just said you don’t know me.”
Her small figure was trembling before me, yet all I could do was keep my mouth shut.
A name. She needs a name. Think myself, what can you do in this situation.
“…………Sha..Sharona! Until we’ve figured out your real identity, how about you take that name for now?”
I just babbled whatever convenient words that formed in my head. She pulled back from my embrace and her still blurry golden eyes shifted to mine, and they stayed there.
“Sharona??”
“Yes, that will be your name from now on. What do you think?”
“It’s worthy of my greatness at least.”
Just when I started thinking how adorable she was, she shattered my vision with a single haughty sentence. It made me want to pinch my cheeks somehow.
For some reason, she pointed behind me. I turned around to check.
“AHHH, THE POTS BURNING!”
“Such carelessness. That’s going straight to your report card.”
“SHUT UP! Go recode it right now!”
And so, our morning started in a somewhat lively manner. I think my regular days would be filled with even more headaches from now on.
