16 - Future plans

Sarah POV:

After checking Enigma’s Sanctuary, which confirmed my suspicion, I saw that Audrey was waiting while chatting with the phoenix. Giiru, I think he said? When she caught my gaze, she went to me, Giiru flying to her shoulder.

“So, what’s the plan?”

“Well, the atlantean hero Giiru spoke of was apparently an important follower of their god. And I checked on the Sanctuary, and no-one has ever heard anything about him. He’s probably the only god who didn’t approach anyone. So, there’s of course the possibility that he’s in his temple somewhere here, but that seems strange.”

“You’re right. But seriously, the Sanctuary? The name sounds so cliché.”

“Yeah, Enigma’s pretty adamant on that. Oh, and we have new official names, so I’m an Explorer now.”

“That god is barely born and already rotten to the core. Well, what are we gonna do about this atlantean mysterious god?”

“We’re gonna wait a bit, maybe help the other researchers. I want to find that god’s temple, and learn more about him, before we go scourge the world for a trace of him. Since that’s our main lead for now…”

“The main one? There’s another?”

I can’t contain my smile, as the results of my research seemed to be confirmed by the last informations I got..

“The last ‘miracles’ we can get reasonably credible proofs were all observed in the three big monotheist religions, or buddhism. It stands to reason that maybe they got their powers from some of the last monsters, except none of those mentions those, except for angels or demons, and those seems more like ascended humans than monsters. And someone posted a bomb on the Sanctuary. The big three got portals openings in Jerusalem, the Vatican and Mecca, that all leads to the same world. I don’t have the details, but it seems there’s no actual ‘god’ in there, but just a bunch of angels and devils powered by a divine spark. But no big omniscient god, or anything close to it.”

Audrey’s clearly paler than at the beginning of my speech, but I need to go through it all, see if she finds it crazy, or possible.

“So I think at least one creature of power managed to survive to start those religions. But since it wasn’t actually part of those new pantheons, it never really became a god, and just leeched power. If it’s true, maybe he knows what happened, or at least can help us.”

“Or maybe it’s implicated in all that, don’t you think?”

I stop to think. And stay like this. I didn’t envision that. It could be, but that would mean that searching for it would be insanely dangerous.

“That’s… possible. In which case we’ll probably need a lot of power to be sure not to run into trouble. Which bring us to our next goal: training. By chance, Giiru, you wouldn’t be willing to teach us some magic?”
