“There are many races in the world. There are the People of the Forest, the People of the Sea, the People of the Sky, the People of the Plains, and the People of the Mountains.” There was a slight pause. “The races can then be further divided. An example would be us, humans. Although we are part of the People of the Plains, we usually call ourselves as humans.”
A blond boy around the age of 5 sat in a chair, listening attentively to the words said by the person speaking. He raised his hand and asked, “What about the rest of them? What do you call them?”
The one speaking, a tall, bespectacled man with dark brown eyes, amber hair, and purple robes, replied in a professional manner, “There are many different subsections of the races, too many to name, but some examples are the Arkes, the Grolls, the Jron, the Dyar, the Mura, the Ri, and so on and so forth.”
The boy, as he listened to all this, felt slightly dizzy. He had expected the names of all them to be familiar as the name for his species was the same as his old life. Yet, this was not so. No dwarves, no mermen, no elves, no nothing! It seemed that somehow, except for his own kind, all the names were different. Earlier, he had thought that his general information lessons were going to be quite easy! Aside from the locations and the likes, inside, he thought that everything would be a breeze. How wrong he was. However, from hearing all these unfamiliar names, he decided to ask a question that may or may not dash his hopes of some information being familiar. “Um… are there any elves or maybe any dwarves?”
The tutor raised his brow. The boy, seeing this reaction, thought that his hopes were unfounded and that everything he knew from the other world was useless. To his surprise though his tutor said the following. “I’m surprised you know about them. Yes, there are elves and dwarves. They’re just part of different subsections. The elves are of the Jron subsection while the dwarves are of the Dyar.”
“Wait so what about us? Do you mean that we have our own subsection?”
“No, we do not,” the bespectacled tutor said. What odd questions this little one asks, he thought. “We, the humans, are part of the Arkes.”
The boy sighed in relief. Maybe his studies won’t be too hard after all. He asked some questions, let the tutor continue, and he finally reached the part he thought was most relevant. Geographical locations, territories, and the like.
“And so we move on to territories.” The tutor took a quick breath of air. “In this world there are four main landmasses. North, South, East, and West.” As he said this he took out a map and presented it to him.

“The West is the continent of the People of the Forest, the North is where the vast majority of the People of the Mountains are, the South is where the People of the Sea rest, and the East is where the majority of us, the People of the Plains, live in. As for where the People of the Sky live in, no one really knows aside from they themselves. And you really shouldn’t expect them to utter a single word about it. They’re very secretive about it.”
“Wait, don’t the People of the Sea live in the seas?” asked the boy.
“Well, they do but it could be said that staying inland is one of their past times.”
The boy thought about the information but found it a bit too suspicious that everything had a place for themselves. So he asked, “Are there no wars or anything?”
Wars? There are but only between kingdoms and such.
“No demons?”
Demons? Of course there are.
“Where are they, then? And what subsection are they part of? Are they peaceful?”
The demons are part of the Mura and they mostly live in the North continent. And yes they are generally a non-aggressive species.
This world seems really peaceful, the boy thought, I expected there to be some sort of evil presence but it seems that I was wrong.
“Anything else you want to know? Or can I continue with my lessons?”
The boy blushed in embarrassment and told the tutor that he could continue. Yet, with what he said, he could not get over the fact that the world had no evil presence to fight.
Maybe I’ll be the baddie, he mused.
