Chapter 3

Of course what came next was Osamu's inauguration. Winning in a landslide, his reputation echoed throughout the years landing him the yellow armband for this year's student council. Second and third could complain about vote tampering all they wanted, the fact no one knew their names was enough evidence that they didn't have a mountainous ambition to carry them to the stage.

Osamu took those steps up the stage, waving to the crowd while he moved to meet the principal at the center. After he was given the new armband, he took to the podium microphone. The crowd silenced, allowing his voice to boom throughout the theater. "Firstly, I'd like to thank everyone who voted for me. I, Osamu Kousuke, am pleased to be your new student council president this year…" And he would go on to give a speech he wrote five minutes before.

"The world's a stage for profound statements to play." After his statement to the people, he amassed the rest of his council. Being leader of said council entailed many privileges over common students, one of which was being able to pick and choose four members with the only restriction being; would they refuse the call?

"The question isn't when the seed will grow, but if the seed will exceed its birthright." Osamu collected four individuals, three being a part of his previous regime and one new female member from the first year class to bring a new perspective. They took to their own corners within the confines of an elevator ascending them to the skies so that they could have the clocktower's eye.

"We are the observers to a phenomenon only described in history known as Manifest Destiny." The elevator gently came to a stop, reaching the top of the dormitory where students were to reside. The rooftop bore similarities to the school in that only staff were authorized, but to disregard preordained rules was Osamu's motto.

Stepping out to meet the table someone had already set up for a tea party, he finished his profundities by proclaiming in a resounding voice "We are known as; Fate Breakers!"

Three took a seat to celebrate their victory, however it lasted for as long as Soma Ryuunosuke first sip. The male had a narrow look about, and appeared tall in his seat but when standing he was shorter than Osamu. Greenish hair that flowed down his neck and finely parted bangs made him the hawk of the council. His actions spoke louder than words but no action could finely express his gratitude. "I thank you for putting together this tea party, Osamu."

Across from him, Osamu stirred his tea. "I'll take the compliment, but I never had time to set up a bash. The tight constraints the school placed on my time was their attempt to dissuade me from my destiny. My proposed dinner plans were to order a pizza."

Soma raised a brow. "If neither of us did it, was it a prank from the first class?" His eyes drifted over to the female of the council, Iroha, standing off by the railings where she could see campus.

"It's certainly not her." Daichi Shigeo gestured his hand towards the fifth member sitting at their table. What he pointed out was so absurd in execution that Osamu and Soma refused to accept it was real because it was so surreal to what they could perceive. That fifth member wore a wolf mask and during their short conversation he reached deep into his snout to devour his tea cup whole. His hand returned out empty. Where did the cup go? "It's certainly this wolf."

"So you see it too!" Osamu exclaimed.

"Yes, I do!" Soma added.

"Then this is a prank from the first class."

Together, Daichi and Soma moved to restrain the masked wolf but Osamu protested, "Wait!" He said. "I think he should join our cause."

"Don't be ridiculous. Wolves can be invited to tea parties, he's an animal!" Soma responded sharply.

Osamu raised a finger, "But that's the dilemma we hope to solve. He broke free from his predetermined fate, residing with us with bravery. His revolution wasn't bloody nor was it ugly. Tell us wolf, who are you?"

Daichi and Soma released his arms so he could reach up and grab his mask. With a tug and pull he revealed his youthful pale face. Fangs could be seen under his grin, his eyes were narrowed and his grey hair was tied back into a low ponytail. Finally, he stood up to meet his peers at leveled height. "I am the epic of Beowulf. I would ask if you have heard of the tale, but it's an experience I want you to read for yourselves. Instead, let's discuss yesterday's precarities involving a girl you may know as Pink Supervisor."

Dane tore down the wallpaper composed of Kafuka's face. They removed pretty well, being taped on the wall for the most part but others suffered a slight tear causing Dane to tear up. Not every photo could be saved, even the best artists trash their paintings every so often. His suitcase would be stuffed with the minor things he considered valuable like golden utensils he won at a cooking competition, the pot collection he received for his birthday, and—

"Grah!" He screamed when the suitcase did a flip, nearly tearing the zipper in half under the stress. Photos of Kafuka rained down on his pitiful room. When all was set on the floor, she looked at it all and sighed. Not everything could be taken with, such was the fleeting nature of life so… A majority of the photos were eaten by a shredder. Cheer up! He told his window reflection; there will be more opportunities to take photos now that they were attending the same school. He'd get to see her everyday if they became close friends.

"..." A frown overtook his smile, although he could be by her side he ultimately didn't–and the girl he wanted to see was Pink Supervisor. Collecting his suitcase he exited his home, turning to face it one last time. His sister had already left early. They had a sort of estranged relationship, their parents remarrying to each other which explained it all. Both parents were neglectful, her mother more so and that led to a distrust while they were still young. Even now, walking to school together was crossing the line. Dane hoped moving into the dormitory would change that.

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

Lobby of the dormitory was akin to a train station except busy like a fast food chain when a new recipe hits the menu. Dormitory assignments were announced prior yet it seemed students were just now moving in, and it couldn't have been a coincidence it coincided with Dane just moving in himself. His position slouched under the circumstances that could have been avoided if he waited an hour for the lobby to clear out. The front counter lied on his left and a white board hung behind the attendant listed the rooms students were assigned. The dormitory was split in half for male and female students. Male students resided in the right wing while Female students were in the left, and from the rumors Dane overheard about intermingling, both would be sent away in the deepest darkest dungeon. As ridiculous as the rumor was, he didn't want to subject himself to the consequences of lingering where he didn't belong.

The wait for the line to shorten felt longer than it actually was, and by the time it was his turn to speak to the attendant he was dead tired. "Give me my key, Dane Tsurugi."

"O-oh! Um…" The woman stammered and stuttered, fiddling with shelves underneath then taking a collection of keys tagged with the floor and room number and after enduring the annoying jiggling of metal and her crying Sorry! For every minor mistake; he was so done.

"H-here's your room key!" She held out the silver key. He reached to take it but she didn't let go. "The school is trying a new project. Certain male and female students will be sharing a room with their opposite gender."

Dane's eyes widened, "What?! Don't tell me I've been selected.."

She nodded subtly. He died heavily.

A hand touched his shoulder spurring him to turn his head to see the line behind him darting glares. "Well, aren't you lucky." The boy tightened his grip, grinning and confirming that the rumors were possibly true.

"Nope, nope, nope, nope!" Dane snagged the key and scurred out of the lobby as fast as he could. Finding Jack would have to wait.

After escaping into the second floor hall, he stopped by the stairs leading up to the third floor and leaned on the banister to catch his breath. His White Pepper form gave him practically unlimited stamina but while he was normal, he was as weak as a sausage. But Bratwurst sausages were still tough to the knife!

Continuing on peacefully, he would find his room on the third floor with his name plaque and underneath it, the girl he'd be sharing with; Karin Kousuke. Not only that, but he was resigning in the female side of the dormitory, meaning that she technically owned this room. First and foremost he knocked on the door because may the lord save him if he walked in on her undressing. No response, even after a second knock that was slightly harder.

A hum escaped his lips and left with no choice, he inserted the key. His execution was fast, opening the door and quickly stepping in and closing it behind. "Hello? Anyone here?" He said. The room was fairly small but spacious for two. Any more and it'd be a crowd. The room had all the essentials like a bathroom, bunk bed, television, etc. Without a kitchen area Dane was left to assume the cafe was somewhere in the lobby.

Sitting on the bed, he voiced his thoughts, "No one's home." But the bed welcomed him just finely. He sunk in and before he knew it, everything faded to black.

Then he quickly awoke, sitting up after an intersecting thought crossed his dream. Worried that Karin might walk in on him, he hopped out of bed looking around frantically. Nothing. Not even her suitcase was here. He took his key and stepped outside the room to see if he was in the correct room—yep, but Karin wasn't here. Opening the curtains revealed that the sun had long since set and was replaced by the moon.

Dane left his room for the kitchen to burn off some energy and to see if the school had the tools provided to let the chef cook. The lobby had emptied out. Not a soul in sight, even the attendant's counter was vacant. Almost seemed like a ghost town—or better yet, a calocreep attacked during his sleep and ate everyone. That would be the worse case scenario, but the thought of a burger turning on its maker always made him chuckle.

Leaving said lobby and entering the kitchen just a step away—hidden past a doorway by the right hallway, the cafeteria he stepped into had several rows of long tables covered by white cloth. Unlike the lobby's white tiles, the floor was rugged for some reason. His eyes scaled the room up to meet a girl standing alone and weeping..? With her back facing, it was hard to tell.

"Oh it's useless!" She cried. Her black hair wasn't the same shade as Dane's sister's, besides, his sister's hair had a bluish hue.

"Something wrong?" Dane spoke up while approaching her table. It was when he got closer that he saw how useless it all was. In front of her were several plates and the cream of egg like a splash ruining the rice underneath.

"Noooo! it's raw!" He exclaimed. Rushing closer for an examination he saw that she could not cook the simplest dish in the book, immediately trying to do what experts could; that was cutting open the center of an omelet over rice and watching the creamy insides spill out like a golden waterfall. Was someone expected to eat all of this?

Dane poked one with a fork. "Someone will get sick if they eat this. You're terrible at this."

"I know…" She covered her face, then she screamed, "Don't tell me things I already know!"

"Do you even know what you're doing?"

Wiping the yolk off her cheek, she said, "I looked up a recipe online."

"That's not enough." Dane replied with crossed arms.

"Who are you to judge? Don't you know who you're speaking to?"

"You wear the same uniform I do… A third year?"

"Look closer! Don't I look similar to someone important?"

She was fairly tall for a girl, her face was indeed beautiful and free of blemishes, and a side bun leaned on her black mid range hair. Dane couldn't connect the dots since none he knew matched similar qualities. He figured to throw out a guess, "Karin..?"

"So you do know that I'm Osamu's glorious sister!"

Right, he overlooked the fact that he would be sharing a room with the council president's sister. Something about this seemed wrong, but the pressing matter was these failed dishes. "I had no idea. I'm guessing you tried to make your brother something?"

"And I failed. Now… what do I do..?"

Silence fell between them staring at eggs. When Dane learned to cook, he had a personal rule that he'd eat everything he made regardless of its quality. Should he twist the rule and apply it here, would he die from salmonella? It'd be a waste of an egg carton to throw it all away. Well, there was nothing a little white pepper could do.
