I’m standing in front of the carriage's window again and looking out at the city, it’s cloudy today, so the sky fire doesn’t sting that much. When I saw the city earlier, I was surprised that it looked so different than I remembered.
The road is cleaner, the buildings look nicer and even though I haven’t seen many humans walking around, the ones I have seen are different from the other’s I saw, their much cleaner and have more colourful clothes.
When I asked the nice human about why it’s so different, he said that it’s because we're closer to the centre of the city and that what I was talking about sounded like the slums. When I asked about what the slums were, he said that he’d tell me later when we have more time.
Earlier he told me that we’re going to a tailor so he can get me some better clothes and that I would have to be measured, and then told me what that was when I stared at him, he keeps doing that, saying things and expecting me to know what he means. Though he’s gotten better at it and now and usually tells me what he means after he says it.
The carriage starts to slow down when it stops the door opens, the shiny red human is holding it open, it says.
“Sir, we’re here.” I feel like it’s looking at me again…
The nice human steps out of the carriage and walks toward the building, the shiny red human turns its head towards me and says quietly.
“Hurry up…”
I quickly move after that and I climb down to the step thing on the carriage and jump off it to the ground, once I’m down I quickly rush after the nice human as I hear the shiny human close the carriage door behind me.
After I reach the nice human I look at the building and see that there’s a large window next to the door with two things that look like wooden humans standing still, one is wearing a suit and the other is wearing a colourful dress.
Me and the nice human are standing in front of the door the shiny red human walks over to us and opens the door, I wonder why the nice human waited for the shiny one to open it. There is a small ringing sound as the shiny red human opens the door, I briefly wonder what it was as I follow the nice human through the door.
I hear the door close behind me and look back, I notice that the shiny red human didn’t follow us and must have closed the door.
Inside there’s a few cabinets and a couple of tables, there are also a few more wooden human things standing against the wall to the left, but I soon forget about them as I notice two other humans in here, close to one of the tables near the back wall.
The taller human is wearing a dark green dress and has long brown hair and is holding a bag, the other human is shorter and wearing a black suit, it has less fur on its head than any other human I’ve seen. The nice human walks over towards them and I follow him.
As we get closer both humans look over towards us and the taller one looks at me for a moment then at the nice human, before looking back to the shorter human and saying.
“I shall return tomorrow, be sure to have it ready by then.”
It then walks around us and out the door, I don’t like that human. The short human glances at me and then looks at the nice human.
“Sir Phillip, you should know better than to do something like this.” It says.
“I do, but I don’t see why I should.”
“Fine be that way… What do you want that couldn’t wait a week?”
“Would you be able to make this?” The nice human says as he takes some paper out of his pocket and holds it out to the other human, it looks at the paper and takes it. The human looks at the paper for a while before asking.
“You want me to make these? Is this some sort of joke?”
“No, this is not a joke, that’s what I want you to make.”
The other human stares at the nice human and then walks over to the table and picks up something, it then walks over to us. The nice human steps back as he looks at me, the other human crouches down in front of me and then starts to measure me with a thin piece of cloth with numbers on it.
I stand still while it measures me, it doesn’t take that long, but I wasn’t happy when it touched me. The human stands back up, looks to the nice human, and says.
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
“Your… Order will be ready in three days. If there’s nothing else, then I’d suggest you go home.”
“I will be Henry, I’ve just got to pick something up first and then we’ll be going home.” The nice human says as he walks back to the door, I follow him.
"You do know that they won't be happy that you did this right?" The other human says as the nice human opens the door. The nice human sighs before saying.
“I know they won’t.”
----------------------------------------
We’ve been sitting in the carriage for a while now, the nice human said that he had a delivery that he wanted to get before we go back to his home.
I got bored of looking at the city after a while since there wasn’t much interesting to look at, most of the shops had their windows covered and the most interesting thing to happen was that it started to rain a little.
I’ve been trying to read the book that he gave me earlier today, but it’s not as easy to read as the other one I forgot to bring, the nice human has been helping me but he doesn’t tell me how to say the words straight away and makes me guess them for a while until I either get it or give up.
I eventually asked him what he was getting, and he told me that it was something his sister was sending him, and then he said that he would tell me what it was when we got home.
When the carriage stops, he tells me to wait here and that he will be back in a few minutes. I continue to try and read the book but without the human telling me what some of the bigger words mean I don’t make much progress and eventually stop trying to read it and I just look at the pictures.
When the human gets back he comes through the right door instead of the one he left through, I look at him and notice that he’s holding a brown box in his hands and looks annoyed, he sits down and the carriage starts to move again, he puts the box on the other side of the carriage with a couple of other bags and then he leans back into the seat and sighs. He sits like that for a while before he says as he looks at me.
“Right, sorry I was gone for so long. How far ahead did you get?”
“n-not that far.” I say quietly, not wanting to admit I got bored and just looked at the pictures.
“Okay then, where are you up to now?” He asks as he moves closer to be to see the book.
I move the book so he can see the pages and point to where I was up to.
“You really didn’t get that far, did you?” He says as he looks at me, I shrink down a little and shrug my shoulders as I focus on the book in front of me.
“Well, at least we’ll have something to do on the way back now.”
----------------------------------------
By the time the carriage arrives back at the lake I've managed to get almost halfway through the book with the nice humans help, I was looking forward to seeing the lake again but it started to rain more earlier and by the time we reached the lake it was raining to much to be able to see most of it.
“I don’t think that we’ll be able to see much of the lake today, sorry.” The nice human says over the sound of the rain, while I look out of the window.
I stay at the window while we pass by it, trying to see as much of the lake as I can through the rain as we pass by it, the nice human said that we wouldn’t be stopping at the lake because it was raining too much. I was really looking forward to seeing the lake again too…
It doesn’t take long until the lake was out of sight, I stayed at the window for a while before I sat back down next to the human and look at the floor.
“Would you… Like to keep reading?” The nice human asks.
I shake my head, not really feeling like trying to read right now. We sit there for a while, eventually, I started to shiver a little every now and then, it’s been getting colder since it started raining, I wrap my arms around myself as and shiver again.
I see the human lean over to the seat with the bags, he opens one and I see him pull out the fluffy red blanket that he gave me last night. I look at it as he unfolds it a bit and wraps it around me, I sit there for a moment, wondering why the human had that in a bag, he looks at me and says as he smiles a little.
“You looked like you liked the blanket last night, so I thought that you might want it for when we get back home.”
I look at him for a moment before pulling the blanket closer and wrapping it around myself more, we sit there for a while, wondering why he brought the blanket with him and why he gave it to me, I doubt that the other humans will let me keep it, I wasn’t even allowed to keep my necklace…
Eventually, I decided to ask him.
“w-why…?”
“Huh? Why what?” He asks as he turns to look at me.
“w-why did y-you g-give this to m-me?” I ask as I lift some of the blanket up. He blinks and says.
“Because I thought you liked it and, uh, that you might want it.”
“w-will the o-other h-humans let m-me keep i-it…?”
“The othe-? Oh, yeah, they should. Are you worried that someone will take it from you?”
“why w-wouldn’t they?” I ask as I look down at the floor.
“Uh… Okay… Why would someone take your blanket from you?”
“b-because humans are m-mean…” I say quietly.
“Oh… Well, I’m a human and I’m not mean to you… I think…”
“why aren’t y-you? w-why are y-you n-nice to m-me while t-the other h-humans a-aren’t?”
“Uh… Because… I want to be your friend.”
“m-my friend? w-why?” I ask as I look at him, he looks at me for a moment before turning his head to the window and saying.
“I, uh. I don’t really have that many friends… And uh, I thought that you could be one…”
I blink after hearing that, is that really the reason why he’s nice to me? Because he wants me to be his friend? I ask him.
“t-that’s why y-you’re n-nice to me? b-because you w-want to be m-my friend?”
“Yeah… Though… I couldn’t blame you if you don’t want to be my friend, I haven’t really been treating you like one.”
We don’t say anything for a while and just sit there with the rain being the only sound I hear as I think about what he said.
“He’s right about not treating me like a friend, but compared to the way the other humans treat me he’s been nice and doesn’t treat me like the other humans do…”
I don’t know how long we sat there in silence, when eventually he turns to me and says.
“Maybe we should just… Start over…?” I look at him
“s-start over?” I ask, confused as to what he means.
“Yeah, we… We start over like we’re meeting for the first time.”
“o-oh, okay…”
“…”
“…”
“Uh, well, how about I start?” He moves so that he’s facing me fully.
“Hello, I’m Phillip.” He says as he reaches out his right hand towards me. I look at it for a moment before I copy him.
“h-hi, m-my name i-is Sae'ri…”
