The next day, I got the results for my credit by examination for Advanced Combat & Tactics. While I did not get a perfect score, I scored high enough to pass the course. Immediately after getting my results, I finalized my subject selection to replace Advanced Combat & Tactics with the Healing Magic course.
Now that all the administrative tasks are taken care of, we have a week before school starts, so I take this opportunity to show Emma around the capital that I have explored. Seeing that this is Emma’s first time in the capital, I decided to take Emma out for some shopping.
When I suggested a day out in town, her eyes sparkled, and she started pulling me out of the academy gate and asking me what my favorite spots were.
When we returned to campus at the end of the day, we were holding bags of new clothes and shoes that had been bought for Emma. At first, when she saw the prices, she was hesitant about me buying something relatively expensive for her… at least from her point of view. It seems like her parents had done a good job instilling in her the value of money.
After assuring her that I could afford it, and with the help of the store’s assistant urging her to try on some clothes, we got Emma to explore what she liked to wear. Now, I am not saying that she totally does not have any dresses back home because her family was poor or anything; the wages my family is paying Emma’s parents were decent, so they had all that they needed and could afford the occasional luxury. But even if they could afford to buy nice clothes from time to time, our hometown did not have much in the way of designer clothing shops, so the capital was a place where Emma could try out many different styles of clothes.
We spent the rest of the day resting our feet from all the walking we did by sitting on a bench in the campus’ large garden and chatting about silly things like we usually did before i went off to the Royal Academy.

The week flew by, and school started again. After I was done with the mandatory classes, it was time for my first lesson in Healing Magic class. The teacher, Mr. Norman Wiles, was a specialist in healing magic, meaning he was on the government’s watch list of very dangerous people, as he could technically kill someone with a touch by healing a person incorrectly.
However, where I was expecting the lesson to start with the theory of how healing spells work, we were given books about humanoid anatomy, and Mr. Norman began a lecture on the parts and functions of the humanoid body.
This content has been misappropriated from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
And seeing that this was a younger demographic of students, they were naturally grossed out when it first started. But boys being boys, the reactions to the lesson became a lot more immature when it came to the subject of sexual dimorphism in relation to humanoid species.
There was always that one boy who said “Boobies” in the classroom, making all the boys laugh or snicker, and the girls roll their eyes at the immaturity… I am ashamed to admit it, but I was very tempted to be the one who called out the boobies.
As for Mr. Norman’s reaction to this, the look in his eyes told me that he had been through this a thousand times and was unfazed as he continued his lecture.
As the lecture continued, I encountered quite a number of misconceptions compared to my modern knowledge, which was as layman-like as it was. Chief among those misconceptions was how infections came about. They knew that fire cleansed all things, but they did not know about germs and microorganisms. The current theory being taught was the concept of Miasma, or bad/chaotic mana in the air infecting the wound.
As tempting as it was to correct the teacher, it was neither the appropriate time nor place to do so. Even if my assertions were proved to be correct, they would most likely attract attention, making people ask how a nine-year-old could have such information. At the moment, the only people I know who have this knowledge are me and Professor Sageira, the dragon in disguise.
Although the lesson was dry, I was kept interested by trying to understand how this world’s medical knowledge differed from my old world.
At the end of the lesson, Mr. Norman closed his book and addressed the class, “Thank you for your attention, students. Before I leave, are there any questions?”
One of the boys raised their hands and asked, “Professor, when are we going to learn any healing spells?”
Mr. Norman just shook his head and answered, “Not for some time. You will all be learning how the body works before applying so much as a single speck of mana to a healing spell. If I let you start trying healing spells now, we will either run out of lab rats for you to kill via malpractice, or you will somehow accidentally kill yourself or one of your classmates.”
At his words, most of the class went pale. “It is better you get the misconception of healing magic being able to “do no harm” out of your head now. Healing magic can just as easily take a life as it can restore it, and it is by no means an easy subject, especially from the second year onward. So if you think you are not cut out for it, please save us both some time and register for something else.”
He then walked off, leaving the class in silence.
When I exited the classroom, Emma was there waiting for me. “How long have you been waiting?” I asked her.
She just lightly shook her head, “Not long. Today was just an orientation, so it did not take long.”
“If that’s the case, there is no need to wait for me outside the class; let’s just meet in the canteen for dinner,” I suggested, to which she had a slight frown before agreeing. I just patted her head at her cuteness, and we went for dinner.
