The Scavenger

The Scavenger

Deep in the underlying reaches of the old world, ruins of the past civilizations are entombed, cased in collapsed structures and new foundations.

The old world gave rise to the thriving surface of the modern age, but the old world still harbors plenty to learn from. Old world tech that far outstrips modern designs, combat frames, weapons, fuel sources. Ancient vaults housing relics of the bygone age are still sealed in the subterranean labyrinth, and it's the job of a scavenger to find them.

Scientists and recovery teams are to valuable to send into the darkness without a map and a guide.

That's where we come in, scavengers, lone wanderers of the forgotten world. I have been exploring the maze like tunnels of the old world for nearly 20 years and I've only found remains of an old vault. Signs of the old world ministry having tries to bury their past so future generations wouldn't repeat their mistakes.

Unfortunately for them large groups like The Church of the Marked and The Labs will pay a hefty price for these vaults whether they are intact or not.

Which ever side is willing to pay more for what I find is the side I guide to the loot.

I've made enough to survive on for the next hundred years without a doubt. All for scraps of a run down bunker. Little do they know that those bunkers are failed experiments and the real deal is yet to come.

One of these days the ministry will send out the all clear and they will open the Tombs for real. On that day I will finally be able to rest comfortably knowing that I survived to see the end of the world a second time in this cursed body of mine.

It feels like as the days go by, more and more of the other scavengers forget what we are, what we were before the war. They believe themselves to have become the improved humans of the new age, the notion of calling yourself human in that state is laughable.

You know, I used to loathe the ministry for the experiments they did in the name of human evolution. A few thousand years can easily change your outlook on evolution after you experience it first hand, Over and over again.

My rage and anger as well as the pain from the days gone by faded over the years as I looked through their shattered lives in the darkness and I began to understand in the end they feared the one thing I wish for more than anything. Death.

So some day I hope the all clear sounds and the heirs of the bygone age return to crush these pretenders that believe they have become gods.

It's only a matter of time till they come.

"Hey scav, get over here we found a door."

A door? ...there shouldn't be any doors on this level of the ruins…. Gods protect us.
