This was the first Tokusatsu series made by country J, based on Super Sentai made in Japan, with some elements from Kamen Rider.
SYPNOSIS

Kakeru Minamoto was kidnapped to Organization Z to be turned into cyborg. Kakeru's long lost father, who happened to be a scientist of Organization Z, didn't want his son to become a puppet of the organization so he didn't perform brainwash on his son. Kakeru didn't want to do evil deeds for the evil organization, so he escaped, along with 4 other cyborgs who hadn't been brain-washed. Together, they fought to stop Organization Z from dominating the world.

Kakeru Minamoto / Red Ranger

Pink Ranger: the only female member in the team. She became Kakeru's love interest and eventually married him after final battle against Organization Z.
Purple Ranger: first appeared in episode 27. A cyborg made by US government. At first, he didn't want to join other Rangers, as he thought they were criminals too for not submitting to the government and not using their power to serve the country. However, later, he came to understand that working under the government was not the only way one can serve his / her homeland and joined the team.
Allies
Dr. Right: a scientist first appeared in episode 3. Inspired by the courage and kindness of the Rangers, he joined the team as an ally and made many useful gadgets to help them fight against the evil organization.
Riko: Dr. Right's daughter.
Neko; Dr. Right's robot cat and trusted assitance.
Colonel Tanaka: a member of the country J's government and Purple Ranger's aid while in country J. At first, he was also hostile to the main 5 Rangers, however, later, he warmed up to them and strongly exhorted his superiors to help the main 5 Rangers.
Villains
Organization Z
Great Leader of Z (episode 1-52): the supreme leader of the evil organization. For the most part of the series, he hid himself and only spoke through the symbol of the organization, which was two red eyes looking down on Earth. In episode 50, Great Leader of Z finally revealed himself to be an alien starfish from a destroyed civilization in space. In episode 52, before falling down and exploded, he cursed Earth that after him, countless evil organization would arise to conquer or destroy it. To which, Kakeru / Red Ranger replied his team and their successors would rise up to fight against them.

General Kubilai (episode 1-48): leader of Organization Z's branch in East Asia. He had a rivalry with the Blue Ranger. Destroyed by Blue Ranger's Neptune Slash in a 1 vs 1 duel.
Great General Qilin (episode 27-49): Great Leader's right hand man and Organization Z's second-in-command. He has a rivalry with Purple Ranger and was the reason Purple Ranger met the other Rangers, as he came to country J from America. Destroyed by Purple Ranger's Purple Lightning Kick.
Queen Bee (episode 1-47): leader of insectoid cyborgs. She always thought herself as someone super duper important that everyone must fawn over her. Destroyed by Great Leader after failing her last chance to destroy the Rangers.
Dr. Anthony (episode 1-52): real name Shinichi Minamoto. The lead scientist in creating cyborgs for Organization Z. He didn't care about anything, save for creating cyborgs and mad experiments. However, he saved Kakeru from being brain-washed by the organization, which proved that maybe he also cared for his son. He saved Kakeru one more time in the last episode by shielding wounded Kakeru from the Great Leader's attack, resulted in his death.
Shiro (episode 1-30): Dr. Anthony's assistant. However, in episode 30, Dr. Anthony betrayed him and turned him into a cyborg and made him fight the Rangers, resulted in his destruction by them. His last words to Kakeru / Red Ranger were "I envy you!".
Roro-roro (episode 1-52): foot soldiers and henchmen of Organization Z. They looked identical to each other.
Cyborgs: all were turned into cyborgs by Dr. Anthony. However, each served a different executive member of the organization.
