Chapter 17: The Search

Nyanko Sakura limped into one of the nearby buildings, her left arm throbbing with pain. She needed to find something useful, not only for survival but also to treat her injuries. Despite her limited understanding of this world, she trusted her instincts to guide her.

"Alright, let's see what we can find," she muttered to herself, her ears twitching as she scanned the dimly lit room. The building appeared to be some kind of shop, with shelves and counters covered in dust. The remnants of human life were scattered around, forgotten and abandoned.

Sakura moved cautiously, her eyes alert for any signs of danger. She opened a few cabinets, searching for anything that might be useful. Her fingers brushed against various objects some familiar, others strange and confusing. She found a few cans of food and hesitated. "These metal things again," she thought. "Are they safe to eat?"

She set the cans aside and continued her search. In another corner, she discovered a small first aid kit. "This could help," she thought, her heart lifting slightly. She opened it, her eyes widening at the sight of bandages, antiseptic wipes, and a few painkillers. She didn't know how to use everything, but she had seen similar items in her world.

Carefully, she cleaned and bandaged her broken arm, using the painkillers to dull the throbbing ache. "This should help," she whispered, her voice trembling. She felt a bit better, though the pain was still a constant presence. "Now, I need more food."

Her food stock was still in her bag, but she knew she needed more. The area was no longer safe, and she couldn't rely on her current supplies to last. She rummaged through more shelves, her eyes scanning for anything edible. She found a few more cans and some packaged snacks, all wrapped in the strange material she now recognized as plastic.

As she gathered the food, her thoughts drifted back to the wolf. "Was it really dead?" she wondered, doubt gnawing at her. It seemed too easy, considering how difficult it was for humans to fight even ordinary monsters. "Maybe it's still out there, injured and angry," she thought, her ears flattening with worry. She couldn't afford to let her guard down.

With her food supply replenished, Sakura decided she needed a way to transport more items. Her eyes fell on some pieces of wood and an old rope lying in a corner. "I can make a pull basket," she realized, her mind already picturing the makeshift device.

She gathered the materials and began working, her agile fingers weaving the rope and wood together. It wasn't perfect, but it would serve its purpose. As she worked, her mind wandered back to her previous world. "How did I end up here?" she wondered, her heart aching with homesickness. "Will I ever see my home again?"

Shaking off the melancholy thoughts, Sakura focused on her task. Survival was her priority. She finished the pull basket and tested it, pleased with the result. It would make carrying supplies easier and free up her hands in case she needed to defend herself.

Satisfied with her preparations, Sakura packed her newfound supplies into the basket. "Time to move," she thought, her red eyes scanning the building one last time. She needed to find a safer place, somewhere to rest and plan her next steps. The city was a dangerous place, but she was determined to survive.

As she stepped back into the street, the sun was setting, casting long shadows over the ruins. Sakura pulled the basket behind her, her steps cautious but determined. "I need to find a better shelter," she thought, her eyes searching for a new hiding spot.

Her journey continued, each step a testament to her will to survive. The world was filled with unknowns, but Nyanko Sakura was resilient. She would keep fighting, keep searching, and keep hoping. She was a survivor, and she would not give up.
